The Gibraltar/Washington Island Varsity Vikings utilized a combination of explosive offense and gritty late-game defense to secure a Thursday sweep over the Southern Door Varsity Eagles.

The Vikings turned the series opener into a one-sided affair, headlined by a staggering 10-run explosion in the third inning that completely overwhelmed the Eagles' defense. Cam Munao and Hobbs Emerson were the catalysts for the rout, combining for six hits and eight RBIs, while Owen Dannhausen electrified the crowd with a two-run inside-the-park home run in the first. On the mound, Aaron Brey was nearly untouchable, surrendering only two hits and striking out nine over five dominant innings of work. The nightcap proved to be a much more harrowing affair as the Vikings narrowly fended off a late-inning surge by the Eagles to clinch a one-run victory. After Will Price tied the game with a home run for Southern Door, Gibraltar seemingly took control with a three-run fifth inning, bolstered by clutch hits from Luke Rericha and Dannhausen. Emerson provided a quality start, fanning seven over five innings, but the Eagles' bats came alive late to slash a five-run deficit to just one. H W. Delain: 2-5, 2 R, 2 RBI
Recap

The Kewaunee Storm pitching staff put on a masterclass of efficiency and dominance on Thursday, surrendering just one hit across two shutouts to dismantle the Sevastopol Pioneers.

Brett Paulsen was the story of the series opener, authoring a brilliant no-hitter and punctuating the performance by striking out the final batter to seal the victory. The Storm offense backed their ace early and often, jumping out to a lead in the first inning on a Dane Harrell RBI double before cruising behind a 10-hit attack. Harrell and Waylon Delain each notched two hits and two RBIs, while the team’s aggressive baserunning—highlighted by five stolen bases—kept the Pioneers on their heels. Defensively, the Storm were impenetrable, playing an error-free game that allowed Paulsen to focus on a historic outing where he never allowed the ball to leave the infield for a hit.

The nightcap was decided almost as soon as it began, with Kewaunee exploding for a massive 10-run first inning that effectively ended the contest before the Pioneers could record three outs. A flurry of RBI singles from Harrell, Connor Kilgore, Calvin Kolmorgen, Logan Schaller, and Paulsen overwhelmed the Sevastopol pitching staff, showcasing the relentless depth of the Storm lineup. Delain was nearly as sharp as Paulsen on the mound, surrendering only a single hit over five shutout innings while striking out four without walking a batter. The Pioneers finally broke through the hit column via Andrew Wiesner, but they could find no answer for Kewaunee’s combination of high-octane offense and lockdown pitching.
