Memphis Rising Stars ID: Quick Hits

Hunter Martin
Tennessee Scouting Director

MILLINGTON, TN — The Memphis Rising Stars ID was held at USA Stadium on Sunday, April 19th in Millington, TN that featured some of the top talent in the 2030-2031 classes. Players went through a pro-style workout with TrackMan and VALD Performance tech, while pitchers threw in a bulllpen setting and were able to get data and metrics on our TrackMan unit.

Some prospects built on past showings, while others made strong first impressions.

We begin our post-event coverage with a look at the top stastical performers from the event, with more breakdowns and full scouting reports coming soon.

QUICK HITS

Canin Chandler: In our 2nd look, we were left impressed with the present ability and the impact potential that he could grow into as he matures into high school. Good mover all around, even at 6 foot 3, which more so stands out when you factor in that he clocked an impressive 7.13 sixty and seemingly got faster as he went. Took good routes in the outfield to the ball and made athletic throws with accuracy to 3rd/home where he topped out at 83 with momentum. The bat has some sneaky pop where he maxed out at 342 ft with a 95 max EV. There is also upside on the mound where he sat in the 77-80 mph range with loose extension, even with spotty command at times. The CB shows true tilt with depth and when you throw in some budding feel, could be a real weapon as he matures. The splitter is interesting where he killed speed in the 700-1000 rpm range and if can continue to develop that offering, will have a strong 3 pitch mix in the coming years.

Carson Clouthier: We got our first look at Clothier last spring and he left an even bigger impression on our staff on our second go. Looked comfortable in the field where he showed good footwork and ability to work to the baseball in stride without losing confidence in his actions. Made impressive in line throws on target from the outfield with present arm strength for the age topping 83 mph and living in the 80 mph range. Showed quality footwork defensively. Showed some batspeed in the box where he took aggressive hacks in tune to an 89 mph max EV and the 3rd highest average EV in the group, and second for the class on the day. On the mound was where he really impressed where he worked the fastball up to 83 mph, living in the 81-83 mph range. The slider shows true East to West shape with present feel for the zone. Was also impressed with the CH with overall shape. For our 2nd look in the bullpen, there are definitely some areas to continue to improve, especially with overall command but there was a lot to like.

Brody Dunn: The left-handed stick has been someone that we have heard a lot of positive things about and we left Sunday after getting our first look with the same impression. Quality mover defensively in the outfield and at 1st base. Plays with some present awareness to what he is doing. Clean throws with more strength to come as he matures. The bat stood out from the left side where he had some unfortunate BP but made the most of it with a 90 mph max EV with the highest average EV on the day with 81 mph on mainly line-drives and balls in the air. The arm works well down the mound and should refine his repertoire as he matures and gains strength in the profile but the frame looks physical and likely to add quality strength over the next few years as we start to follow his HS career.
