Notable Recaps from Thursday

Sparkman (8) vs. Huntsville (7)
Sparkman outlasted Huntsville for an 8-7 win in 14 innings on Thursday in a back-and-forth battle. Huntsville came out swinging early, building a 4-0 lead in the first behind home runs from Will Carter and Will Jones, but Sparkman chipped away and eventually pulled in front 5-4 in the fifth on Anthony Pearsall’s two-run double. Huntsville answered again to tie it in the sixth, and both teams traded runs in the ninth before Pearsall delivered the biggest swing of the night with a two-run homer in the 14th to put Sparkman ahead for good. Pearsall finished with four RBIs on four hits to lead the Senators, while Salem Lee, Vincent Randolph, and Brenner VanDeWynkel helped anchor a 16-hit effort. Braxton Williams, VanDeWynkel, Lee, Randolph, and Mark Bundy all turned in multi-hit games, and Sparkman also drew eight walks while playing error-free defense. Hayes Fugate earned the win in relief, with Williams providing 2.2 scoreless innings out of the bullpen. Huntsville finished with 17 hits in the loss, with Jones driving in three runs and joining Carter, Ryan Ruffing, Andrew Barnsby, and Robbins Lowe with multi-hit performances.

Headland (7) vs. Enterprise (6)
Headland knocked off Enterprise in a tight one, 7-6, on Thursday. The Rams jumped out early behind a two-run homer from Jayden Williams, but Enterprise answered with a five-run second to take control. Headland chipped away and flipped the game in the fifth, with Collin Phillips delivering a go-ahead two-run triple before Ryan Roland followed with an RBI single to make it 7-5. Roland led the Rams with two hits, while Phillips, Williams, and Ashton Trammell each drove in two runs. Wyatt Shelley started and struck out five over four innings, with Casey Knowles closing it out in relief. Enterprise finished with nine hits, getting three-hit efforts from Hayes Woodall and Brady Cavanaugh, while Lint Sawyer drove in three runs.

Gulf Shores (6) vs. McGill-Toolen Catholic (4)
Gulf Shores outlasted McGill-Toolen in extras, earning a 6-4 win in 10 innings on Thursday. After trading leads throughout, the game was tied at four entering the tenth before John Luke Stephens delivered the decisive swing, ripping a two-run double to put the Dolphins ahead for good. Stephens led the way with three hits and two RBIs, while Jacob O’Bryan also added three hits as part of a 13-hit effort. Gulf Shores built an early 2-0 lead before McGill-Toolen answered with a three-run sixth, but the Dolphins responded in the seventh to regain the lead before another error allowed the Yellow Jackets to tie it. Stephens was strong on the mound as well, striking out 12 over seven innings, while the bullpen shut things down late. McGill-Toolen finished with six hits, with Jack Lenaghan leading the lineup with two.

Lynn (10, 14) vs. Hackleburg (7, 4)
Lynn completed the doubleheader area sweep of Hackleburg on Thursday to capture an area championship, winning 10-7 in Game 1 before pulling away for a 14-4 victory in Game 2. In the opener, Lynn answered an early deficit with a four-run first inning and never gave the lead back. Colin Crowe led the way offensively, driving in four runs on two hits, including a three-run double in the first, while Conner Tittle finished with three hits and the Bears totaled 12 as a team. Hunter Ellis worked 6.2 innings to earn the win, and Lynn swiped 11 bases in the victory. In Game 2, Lynn again responded after Hackleburg struck first, erupting for five runs in the second and five more in the third to break things open. Kyler Jordan drove in four runs on a pair of doubles, while Crowe, Bryce Baughn, Jordan, and Coby Sherer each had two hits. The Bears collected 11 hits and stole 11 more bases to cap off the sweep.
