Notable Recaps from Wednesday

Vestavia Hills (8) vs. Hewitt-Trussville (4)
Vestavia Hills pulled away late to defeat Hewitt-Trussville 8-4 on Wednesday, using a big sixth inning to flip the game. The Rebels struck first, but Hewitt-Trussville answered to take a 3-1 lead in the fourth behind a sacrifice fly from Taylor Alfano and a two-run double from Jace Riggan. Vestavia Hills responded in a big way in the sixth, erupting for six runs on five hits to take control, highlighted by key RBI swings throughout the inning. Vestavia Hills finished with 13 hits, led by Luke Green’s 3-for-4 performance, while Gavin Smith, Cross Tonsmeire, Jacob Harris, and Cohen Walker each added multiple hits. The Rebels also applied pressure on the bases with four stolen bases. Cooper Anderson earned the win with a complete-game effort, allowing four runs while striking out five.
 
Hoover (12) vs. Oak Mountain (2)
Hoover rolled to a 12-2 win over Oak Mountain on Wednesday, using early offense and a strong outing on the mound to take control. After Oak Mountain struck first in the opening inning, Hoover responded immediately with a two-run single from Grayson Payne to grab the lead. The Bucs continued to build on it in the second, capitalizing on timely hits and an error to extend the advantage. Max Crowder led the way on both sides, driving in four runs with a bases-clearing triple in the fourth and an RBI single later in the game. He also earned the win on the mound, tossing six innings while allowing just two runs and striking out six. Hoover finished with nine hits and showed patience at the plate with seven walks, while also turning two double plays defensively.
 
Auburn (4) vs. Central-Phenix City (1)
Auburn defeated Central 4-1 on Wednesday, breaking through late to secure the win. Central got on the board first in the fifth, but Auburn responded in the seventh with a four-run inning to take control. The Tigers used a combination of small ball and timely hits, including contributions from Britt Farr, Angelo Santiago, and Antwane Daniels, along with a key error, to plate the decisive runs. Farr and Daniels each collected two hits to lead the offense, while multiple players drove in runs during the go-ahead frame. On the mound, Ethan Wade delivered a strong start, and Auburn’s bullpen closed it out with scoreless relief from Ryan Donaldson and Max Autrey, who earned the win.
 
Smiths Station (5) vs. Opelika (4)
Smiths Station rallied to defeat Opelika 5-4 on Wednesday, scoring the go-ahead run late to complete the comeback. Opelika jumped out to an early 4-1 lead behind run-scoring hits from Warner McDonald and Jax Miller, but Smiths Station chipped away and tied the game in the fourth on an RBI single from Jacob Harris. The Panthers delivered the decisive run in the sixth when Harris came through again with an RBI single to give Smiths Station the lead for good. Harris led the offense with three RBIs from the nine-hole, while he and Benton Hardy each recorded multi-hit performances. Mason Long was outstanding in relief, earning the win with 6.1 innings of work while allowing just one unearned run and striking out five.
 
Bayside Academy (10) vs. St. Michael Catholic (5)
Bayside Academy defeated St. Michael Catholic 10-5 on Wednesday, using a big third inning to take control. After falling behind early, the Admirals erupted for eight runs in the third inning to flip the game, highlighted by a three-run triple from Will Allen that keyed the rally. Bayside finished with 12 hits, led by Cooper Mason’s 3-for-5 performance at the top of the lineup. Allen drove in three runs, while Bo Anderson added multiple hits and Will Fitzhugh reached base three times via walks. Grady Stokes earned the win on the mound, and the Bayside bullpen shut things down in relief to secure the victory.
