Week of April 6th
Tuesday
Carter Allen, RHP, 2027, Bremen
The former Future Gamer and Georgia Tech commit has been putting up staggering numbers this spring (0.64 ERA, 79 K in 43.1 IP) and came through with another quality start as the Blue Devils clinched the region. Worked around a few leadoff walks to post 5.0 scoreless innings, allowing just 1 hit with 8 K. Fastball lived at 88-91 throughout, running it up to 92 a couple times when needed while showing carrying life through the zone. Both breaking balls continues to make strides with every look, led by the slider that looks to have plus potential down the line. Sitting 77-80, showing teeth with sharp, late bite and innate feel to spin (2700+ RPM) that allows Allen to generate swing-and-miss both in and out of the zone. Tighter curveball at 74-76 plays well throughout the zone with present command and late depth that will freeze hitters often. Changeup was shown sparingly in the mid-80s with some ability to tunnel as well. The entire mix for Allen still feels to be scratching the surface and remains one of the higher ceiling arms in the state.
Daniel Mendez, SS, 2026, Ola
The Georgia Highlands commit seemingly always performs in each look with more of the same continuing Tuesday afternoon. Came through with a smoked RBI single back into centerfield in the late stages of the game. Stayed hot in the top half of the tenth as he delivered a massive swing for the Mustangs as he drove one over the RF wall for a go-ahead solo home-run. Present loud tools and projection in the physical, athletic 6-foot-0, 190-pound frame. The LHH creates excellent length and separation in-zone while transferring weight well through impact. Leverage to all-fields backed by present bat speed and innate barrel feel. Quality pitch recognition and feel for the zone stand out as he looks to do damage early in counts. Impressive defender in the dirt with solid footwork and excellent instincts while showing above-average arm strength to deliver accurate throws to any bag. It’s a high-floor profile for Mendez as he provides immense value to the Mustangs and will be a significant piece down the stretch.
