The Prep Baseball Virginia/DC staff makes their way across the Commonwealth and DC throughout the spring to assist high school players in gathering evaluations, including video and some data, that allow our staff to assist in the potential recruitment of student-athletes.
With the staggering start of private and public schools, we have a deeper collection of notes and video on players in this edition of the Ground Forces Scout Blog.

Alexandria City
|
Connor Pollock SS / Alexandria City, VA / 2027Nice athletic frame with some good strength present. Line drive hitter with a gap-to-gap approach who will line some gaps for extra bases. Solid defender at short and shows some quickness defensively and on the bases.

Colonial Forge
|
Bryce Arbogast LHP / OF / COLONIAL FORGE HIGH, VA / 2027Features a repeatable, stretch-only delivery with clean arm action from a high three-quarters slot. Confidence in his bigger shaped curveball to throw it in any count. Was able to collect a handful of whiffs with the fastball that was up to 87. Found himself getting even more whiffs with the curveball at 71-72, inducing a few ugly swings from the opposition.

Cosby
|
Luca Briggs C / 3B / Cosby High, VA / 2029Athletic, projectable frame. Quick and long arm action from a three-quarters slot. The young freshman was brought on in relief in a tough spot for his team and was able to minimize damage, showing the ability to not let the moment get too big. In that first inning of work his fastball sat 85-87 with the majority of those being 87.

Courtland
| |
Ryan Hoburg RHP / 3B / Courtland High, VA / 2027A deliberate delivery with a short arm action from a three-quarters slot. Hides the ball well from hitters giving them a different look than most. Used mostly fastballs and was filling up the zone throughout, working all quadrants of the zone. Pitched a complete game shutout, striking out 13 batters in the process.

Herndon
| |
Charles Morgan OF / 1B / Herndon High, VA / 2026Morgan had a great day at the plate, knocking in four on a 2-3 day. Morgan gave Herndon a 2-0 lead in the first with a home run. He sat back on a breaking ball and drove a no-doubter over the left field fence. Morgan would knock in his other two runs with an RBI single in the second and a sacrifice fly in the fifth. Morgan has a big 6’3”, 215 lb frame and looks to continue to lead the Herndon offense in the second half of the season.

| |
Hayden Rita RHP / 2B / Herndon High School, VA / 2026Rita threw five innings for the Hornets, only allowing one run while striking out seven and walking just one. Rita worked in the zone throughout his outing, landing 68% strikes. He was able to land all three of his pitches, showing strong feel for both a curveball and slider. Rita worked with a fast arm and mixed well between his offerings.

Noah Wantuck C / OF / Herndon High, VA / 2027It was a great day of swings for the uncommitted junior. Wantuck had a strong showing at the NOVA Preseason All-State II this offseason and he has continued to swing well into the high school season. Wantuck went 2-2 with an RBI double, two walks, and three runs scored. He has a simple and strong load with a quick and level bat. Wantuck also showed an ability to hit to all fields, with a single to the pull side and double to the opposite field on Monday.

Lake Braddock
| |
Andrew Laskofski 3B / RHP / Lake Braddock Secondary, VA / 2027Athletic frame with strength present. Shows some bat speed and a good approach to each at-bat. Was patient and didn’t give any pitch away as a hitter. His process to each at-bat is very good, it just didn’t end up with any results in this game, but it will in plenty others. Defensively, he shined at third base. Showed first step quickness and arm strength and accuracy. Also made a real heady play when the game was tied with a runner on 2nd and one out. Fielded a grounder a step to his left, checked the pretty speedy runner once, and the runner didn’t break back but just held his ground. Laskofski gave him another look and then put a dart to second to catch the lead runner. Real good awareness and the kind of small but important winning plays that can only really be seen in game.

| |
Matt Schaeb / RHP / Lake Braddock Secondary, VA / 2026A lankier athletic frame that still has room to add strength. At the plate, he shows a pull preference but has some batspeed and can generate raw exit velocity power that way. Also gets some natural loft to pull side, which allows that power to show with home runs and extra base hits.

Lakeland
|
Josiah Joyner RHP / SS / Lakeland High, VA / 2027A dominant performance from the Future Games alum. He is an athletic mover with a loose arm action. He went 6 innings, allowing 2 stray singles and 12 K’s. He settled in the 4th inning after a longer 3rd inning. The fastball control improved from the last look two weeks ago. Had a strong feel for the power curveball in any count. Fastball collected plenty of whiffs at 86-89.
|
Monacan
|
Brady McCormack RHP / 1B / Monacan High, VA / 2027The fastball was as good as advertised early on, as it was up to 93 with a significant amount of ride and run. Both the fastball and slider generated whiffs throughout his outing. At times the slider backed up on him but was still able to mix it in efficiently. When the Ole Miss commit is on the mound, the Chiefs always have a chance.

South Lakes
|
Justin Collins SS / 3B / South Lakes, VA / 2028Collins led the Seahawks offense on Monday, going 2-2 with a double and a walk. Collins swings with a wide base and quick bat. He showed comfortability with two strikes, tallying both of his two hits with two strikes. Collins was also patient in his at bats, waiting for his pitch to do damage.
