CHSAA Players of the Week: March 30 - April 4

Caleb Dameron
Prep Baseball Colorado Staff

Each week during the high school season, the Prep Baseball Colorado staff will be announcing our 'Player of the Week' award for that particular week. Numerous players from across the state continue to perform and put up numbers on a week-to-week basis, though only one athlete can take home the 'hitter' or 'pitcher' award each week. Below you'll see which players have earned our 'Player of the Week' honors this spring season.

NOTE: These submissions were provided from high school coaches and others from around our state. If you are a interested in nominating a player, please contact Marc Wagner ([email protected]).

CHSAA PLAYERS OF THE WEEK: MARCH 30 - April 4

HITTER OF THE WEEK:

Maddox Burnett RHP / OF / Erie, CO / 2026

Burnett is one of the state's premier senior arms, but that hasn’t stopped him from showing exactly why he’s headed to BYU as a two-way player. Last week, Burnett went 10-for-13 with 3 home runs, 3 doubles, 6 RBI, 6 runs scored, and a stolen base at the plate. He opened his four-game week with a three-game home run streak, and also turned in a dominant outing on the mound, going 5 innings with 10 strikeouts and zero earned runs against Fairview, while also belting a home run in that game.

Burnett is now hitting .579 this spring with 3 home runs, 6 doubles, 12 RBI, 9 stolen bases, and a 1.654 OPS across his first 50 plate appearances at the 5A level. There’s also some draft buzz around Burnett as a pitching prospect, as he’s run his fastball into the mid-90s in 2026 and has racked up 46 strikeouts across 24 innings with a 0.88 ERA.

PITCHER OF THE WEEK:

Gunnar Garrison RHP / 1B / Eaton, CO / 2026

Garrison has given us no choice but to award him his second ‘Pitcher of the Week’ honor after another staggering week on the mound. This time around, Garrison tossed a 4-inning, 10-strikeout no-hitter against Berthoud before the Reds jumped out to a big lead, allowing him to be saved for a top-ranked 3A matchup between Eaton and University.

Against University on Saturday, Garrison was pivotal in the win, going 6.2 innings with 15 strikeouts and just one earned run against a solid lineup. Overall on the week, he logged 10.2 innings with 25 strikeouts, 1 earned run, 2 walks, and just 5 hits allowed.

The Prep Baseball Colorado scouting staff has already seen Garrison up to 96 mph this spring, and his draft stock continues to rise. Through 25.2 innings, he’s compiled 57 strikeouts and a 0.55 ERA to go along with an impressive, still-evolving arsenal.

HONORABLE MENTIONS: Beau Friesen, Milo Richtel, Liam Martin, Anthony Misch, Josh Weaver, Santana Vital, Jacob Olson, Hudson Alpert, Malaki Dalpra
