Wednesday

Milton @ Seckinger

Score: Milton win, 11-3

Standouts:

Caelen Frederick, OF, 2028, Milton

Carson Mathews, 2B, 2027, Milton

David Bowman, SS, 2027, Milton

Jacob Sherrill, OF, 2028, Milton

Sam Melanson, SS, 2026, Seckinger

Kayden Om, 1B, 2026, Seckinger

Key Moments: The Milton offense rattled off 3-runs in the first behind RBI extra base-hits from Jacob Sherrill and Carson Mathews as they didn’t look back from there. However, Seckinger would respond in the bottom half with 3-runs of their own as Kayden Om came through with a clutch 2-out 2 RBI double to even things at 3-3 after 1-inning. Milton added a run in the 3rd as David Bowman doubled and came around to score, extending the lead to 4-3. Milton would then take advantage of a couple of walks and an RBI single from Caelen Frederick in the 4th as they tacked on 3 more runs to make it 7-3. The lone run in the 5th came via a Carson Mathews as he doubled and scored. Things would remain 8-3 until the top half of the 7th as Milton scratched across 3 more as Miller Pierce, Carson Mathews, Davis Nichols, and Jack Mickels all had base-hits, resulting in an 11-3 final.

Avery’s Takeaway: I was finally able to Milton this year and at a perfect time right before the playoffs start. The blend of underclass and upperclass talent in the lineup stood out. 1-9 has the chance to hurt you on any given night. Senior leadership comes via Miller Pierce and Davis Nichols who supply veteran experience to a somewhat younger core. A pair of juniors in David Bowman and Carson Mathews carry huge roles in the offense as well as offering lockdown defense up-the-middle in the dirt. A talented trio of sophomores; Caelen Frederick, Cade McAllister, and Jacob Sherrill make up the top 5 in the order as they all produced in the 11-3 win over the Jaguars. The Eagles will have confidence on any given night in the playoffs backed by strengths in the starting lineup and quality pieces on the mound.

Pebblebrook @ Harrison

Score: Harrison win, 13-7

Standouts:

Breck Hemphill, OF, 2028, Harrison

Tyler Holmes, SS, 2026, Pebblebrook

Damian Phipps, OF, 2026, Pebblebrook

Luke Hutchinson, OF, 2027, Harrison

Key Moments: The Falcons would come out strong and push across 2 runs due to aggressive base running and some timely hits from Tyler Holmes and Sinsaire Walker. Hoyas would tie it instantly in the 1st buoyed by an RBI 3B from Breck Hemphill. Both teams would go back-and-forth through the middle innings adding runs on both sides before Harrison would take control in the 6th, adding 5 runs thanks to putting seven runners on base including 3 XBH.

Ian’s Takeaway: The breakout year continues for Breck Hemphill, who has led this offense all spring long and would put a cherry on it with the elusive cycle. The sophomore would go 4-for-4 while adding 4 RBI to pace the region win. The lineup was a little mix and matched on senior night but some steady performers showed up again for Harrison with Luke Hutchinson and Cole Beasley adding two hits a piece in the win. The season hasn’t gone the way they’d like for Pebblebrook but the top half of the lineup can be impactful with plus speed and athleticism in the likes of Tyler Holmes, Sinsaire Walker and Damian Phipps who would add 7 hits, 5 R and 5 SB among the trio.

Lovett @ Holy Innocents
Score: Holy Innocents wins, 12-2
Standouts:
Bryce Floyd. RHP, 2028, Holy Innocents

Ryan Dunham, SS, 2028, Holy Innocents

Robby Chiaffredo, RHP, 2028, Holy Innocents

Taylor Fuller, OF, 2026, Holy Innocents

Xavier Wilson, 3B, 2026, Holy Innocents

Grant Bradley, CIF, 2027, Holy Innocents

Jack Rees, OF, 2026, Lovett

Key Moments:
Lovett opened up the game in a loud way when East Carolina commit, Jack Rees hit a backside home run in the first at bat of the game. Holy Innocents answered back in the bottom half to make it 2-1 on some free bases by Lovett. From there it was a back and forth pitchers duel between Bryce Floyd and Cortland French. Lovett had some momentum in the 3rd after a Jack Rees double. Rees was on 3B with 1 out and Floyd make a really athletic play on the mound where no one was at 1B and he dove and tagged the runner out, while keeping Rees on 3B. Brody Fernadnez was excellent behind the dish for Holy Innocents and came up with a big put out in the 4th on the runner trying to take 2B. From there Lovett had the bases loaded in a tie game and Holy Innocents worked out of it to send it to the bottom half. Taylor Fuller came up big with a triple with 1 out. Xavier Wilson then delivered a rocket off the green monster to make it 4-2. From there Robby Chiaffredo shut things down on the mound and the Golden Bears would end up exploding for 8 runs with singles by Ryan Dunham, Grant Bradley and Dawson Radaszeski. Dunham would deliver the final blow for the walk off run and the region championship.

Huddy’s Takeaway: This was a must see game on the schedule for region championship and another needed look at some uncommitted and underclass talent on both sides. Bryce Floyd bounced back from some shaky starts early in the season and had his best stuff with a championship on the line. He is a must see arm in the sophomore class with a big summer on the way. As for the junior class it was another quality look at uncommitted Grant Bradley that is having a statement year as one of the best uncommitted juniors in the state. I was pumped to see Chiaffredo out of the pen and despite the short look he is going to be one to see over the summer. This Holy Innocents line up is littered with talented sophomores like Ryan Dunham who had a multi hit day and Jude Smith that has some really good AB’s at the top of the order. Brody Fernandez was a new name I got to see and was solid behind the dish and also took some really good swings. On the other side it was good to see Junior Future Gamer Chase Michelson in the heart of the order as a freshman. It will be exciting to see both of these teams in the playoffs with Holy Innocents having a real chance to make a run at a state title.
