This Monday, Prep Baseball was in attendance for a closely contested SPSL matchup as Curtis hosted Puyallup. Both teams faced high expectations entering the spring as teams ranked inside our Preseason Power 25 Rankings. Curtis rode their strong pitching, defense and had a few timely AB's to win this game 3-2. Below are scouting notes on standout prospects from the game.
Curtis vs. Puyallup (4.15.26)
Curtis
'27 RHP Cooper Hordyk (Uncommitted)
Hordyk has turned in several gems during in-game looks between 2025 and 2026, grinding through a quality start in this one. Though he didn't have his best command early, he really settled in and cruised after the first two frames. The long, lean 6'4, 190 pound frame generates some natural extension down the mound, allowing the low 80's T84 MPH fastball to play up at times. He also mixed in a CH and SL, with the breaker at its best located down out of the zone. The CH was thrown to both righties and lefties and was used regularly as well. Though there was limited swing and miss, Hordyk let his defense work and largely avoided hard contact to earn the win. Final line: 6 IP, 7 H, 2 R, 0 BB, K.

'26 INF Riley Angelo (Biola Commit)
One of the best SPSL hitters from a statistical standpoint in his final high school run, Angelo looked under control and poised in all facets on Wednesday. The medium-framed prospect moved with lateral quickness and range, combined with soft hands to play a sound shortstop. At the plate, the lefty sets in a quiet stance with high hands set above the rear ear pre-pitch. The swing works through a simple, short stride with a direct, flatter path to contact. Angelo did well to pull a pitch down in the zone for a base hit to right. Important piece for the Vikings this spring.

'29 INF/C Craig Sale (Uncommited)
The second-ranked prospect in Washington's freshman class has more than looked the part in his first year of high school action, already solidifying himself as a varsity middle of the order regular. Sale's stocky-strong frame is advanced for his age and can produce impact from the right side of the plate. The levers stay tight and compact but maintain rotational quickness through the zone, all while staying under control. Sale drove in Curtis' first run with a fielder's choice, but his big offensive highlight came late with a ringing double over the head of the CF. He then would score later in the inning, plating the deciding run. Sale showed developing footwork with enough arm strength to stick at 3B, though he looked the part at the catcher position as well in a winter showcase look. Must-follow for years to come.
With the game tied 2-2, Curtis would make some noise in the 7th inning

'27 INF Harlan Carrillo (Uncommitted)
One of the biggest winners of the preseason, Carrillo has continued look strong with the bat across two in-game looks this spring. The stocky, ultra-strong junior carries lightning quick bat speed through the zone, with enough bat lag to punish balls to all fields. Carrillo sets in a relaxed stance with a slight arm bar in the load, driving through the zone with major intent. He ripped a single the other way as his lone hit and scored a run as well. The righty also just missed doing serious damage with a dangerous swing producing a flyout later in the contest. A definite corner type with a bat-first profile, Carrillo made every play that came his way at 1B. Uncommitted name to know.
Puyallup
'28 1B Greg Johnson (Uncommitted)
Johnson was the bright spot in another in-game look earlier this spring, and he continued to shoulder the load offensively in this look. The sturdily-built 6'2 sophomore went 2-3 with 2 pull-side singles, driving in both of the Viking runs. The swing worked through the similar polish and adjustability we've been accustomed to see. Johnson also held his own at 1B defensively and will stick at the position moving forward. Overall, the continued maturity in the approach and plate discipline paired with the triple digit exit velocity power continue to stand out, which should make Johnson an extremely sought-after prospect when his recruiting period opens this summer.

'28 RHP/INF Beau Hale (Uncommitted)
Hale was largely dominant across 4 innings of relief, building on an impressive preseason showcase look. The 6'1 sophomore worked through a smooth, lower-intent wind and delivery with a tight, controlled glove side and 3/4 slot release. Hale sat 82-83 MPH with the fastball and mixed in a CH and SL as part of his lower-spin arsenal. The fastball had heavier sinking action and got in on the barrels of RHH multiple times. Hale filled the strike zone, totaling 54 P/36 S across his four innings. He carried a cool, calm demeanor on the hill, and should continue to grow into a bigger and bigger role on the mound.
'26 OF Noah Benedict (New Mexico State Commit)
The Future Gamer has long been a staple in a corner OF role for Puyallup's varsity squad. He flashed well at the dish in this look, collecting a knock early and working QAB's all afternoon long. The stocky lefty features a longer, slightly uphill stroke with a middle of the field approach, lining one to center for his lone hit. The understanding of the strike zone and refusal to expand has led to a team-high 15 walks to this point of the spring. Benedict also flashed a plus arm in pregame INF/OF, profiling well in RF.

'29 INF Kasen Skrivan (Uncommitted)
A varsity newcomer in recent games, Skrivan looked composed and comfortable in all facets of the game. Starting at 2B, he played with tempo and rhythm when fielding ground balls, displaying twitchy middle INF actions. At the plate, though he wasn't rewarded with any hits, the swing stayed aggressive and found multiple barrels, lining out and yanking a couple of other pitches foul. Skrivan was seen at the PNW Preseason ID this winter and will be an intriguing follow moving forward.
