Prep Baseball Illinois Player of the Week: Tate Sauer
April 21, 2026
Uncommitted junior Tate Sauer (Champaign Centennial) had a week to remember at the plate, going 8-for-11 last week with every hit going for extra bases including four home runs, a triple, three doubles, 15 RBIs, seven runs scored, three walks, a sac fly and four stolen bases. For his efforts, Sauer has been named this week’s Player of the Week.
He started things off on Monday in a big 18-0 win over Peoria - going a perfect 3-for-3 with seven RBIs, three runs scored, two home runs and a triple. The played Peoria again later that day and won handedly by the score of 12-2, with Sauer going 1-for-3 with a double, three RBIs, a run scored and a hit-by-pitch.
Though they lost Friday to Peoria Notre Dame, Sauer still continued to swing it at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a home run, double, two RBIs and two runs scored.
He stayed hot into the weekend, going 2-for-2 Saturday against Bismark-Henning with a home run, double, three RBIs, run scored and two walks.
We're thankful for the POTW submissions we received from the coaches across the state. The players who garnered POTW consideration will earn a place within tomorrow's Diamond Notes story, so be on the lookout for that.
