Be sure to to be tuned in daily for content on the season. Everything high school baseball related will be on the GHSA tab on our website. It can be found HERE. This will include the Power 25, Classification Rankings, weekly scout blogs and more.

Here we will take a look at the games our scouts went to from the previous day and highlight key moments, standout players and our takeaways from the game.

Mount Vernon @ Mt. Paran

Score: Mt. Paran win, 5-4

Standouts:

Rylan Long, 1B, 2029, Mt. Paran

Andrew Akopov, OF, 2028, Mt. Paran

Jackson Gore, 3B, 2027, Mt. Paran

Carson Albert, 3B, 2027, Mount Vernon

Jacob Dockter, 1B, 2029, Mount Vernon

Key Moments: The Mustangs offense came out of the gate hot as they had 8 hits across 2.1 innings played. They tacked on a pair of runs in the 2nd thanks to a double by Jacob Dockter, a single by Will Flowers, followed by an RBI single from Collin Roberts. Bobby Bastek would work a walk with the bases loaded to push across another run. Another run would come across in the 3rd by a trio of singles all in a row to make it 3-0. The Eagles answered back in the bottom half of the 4th as Andrew Akopov drove in their first run of the game via an RBI triple. Cash Cauley kickstarted a 2-out rally for the Eagles in the 5th as he hammered a double off the base off the wall. Followed by Rylan Long sending one over the fence to straight away center field for the 2-run home-run to tie it at 3-3. Mount Vernon responded in the 6th as they retook the lead on a Hayes Hudson RBI single to make it 4-3 as that remained the score heading to the bottom of the 7th. The Eagles got a pair off runners on due to walks in the bottom of the 7th but with 2-outs. Jackson Gore remained the lone hope for the Eagles and came through as he sent one into left-field for a 2 RBI double to walk-it-off on the last game of the regular season.

Avery's Takeaway: This was a hard fought game to close out the series and shows that these battle tested groups have what it takes to make noise in the playoffs. The talented young pieces on the field really stood out as an underclass heavy core powers the Eagles. Including names like Cash Cauley, Rylan Long, and Andrew Akopov with standout performances. Upperclassmen, Ethan Wearing and Jackson Gore had big hits as well as 1-9 on any given night could hurt you which bodes well for a playoff run. Mount Vernon put together a scrappy performance and have shown well over the past couple of years. They know what it takes to win down the stretch as they put together a playoff run last Spring. A pair of committed seniors, Will Flowers and Matthew Trent lead the way in the rotation. Upperclass heavy talent litters the lineup with names like Bobby Bastek, Hudson Forrest, Will Flowers, Carson Albert, Graham Cawthon, Andrew Moran, Rigby Anderson, Hayes Hudson, and Collin Roberts. The potential x-factor that could push this team over the hump is freshman Jacob Dockter that brings a hit/power combo to the heart of the order and has really started to take off this spring. The two-way will also look to supply key innings on the bump as well. These are two teams that looked the part to close the regular season as they appear ready to make a run in the postseason.
