ISSAQUAH VS SKYLINE (4.15.26)
In KingCo action last week, Issaquah faced off against the host Skyline Spartans. This contest was really tight for the first 6 frames as the Eagles held onto a 3-1 lead. But then the visitors went off for 3 runs in the top of the 7th and held onto the 5 run lead for the win.
ISSAQUAH
For Issaquah, they got a great effort on the mound from ‘28 RHP Kaden Voss. The tall righty spun 6.2 innings allowing 6 hits, 1 R, 0 ER, BB and 3 K. Voss is an arm to watch in the class as he carries a considerable ceiling to tap into and noticeable upside. He used a 3 pitch mix in this look and was highly efficient throughout. Given his size, the high waisted frame and his leverage, it’s easy to envision additional velocity as he matures. The arm path is free and easy with quality extension out front at release. We’ve seen the FB up to 87-88 with more effort in a bullpen look. But between the lines, you could see the emphasis on attacking the zone and utilizing his stuff and less concern about just velo.

On the offensive side of things, as previously mentioned the Eagles scored 6 runs in this one with 9 total hits and 5 BB. Uncommitted ‘27 OF Chase Stepan had a 3-3 day with a run scored, SB and led the team in hits. During a preseason look at a winter ID, Stepan showed quality tools with arm strength both from the OF and on the bump. Offensively he hits with a simple, upright set up into an athletic base with a level, flatter swing path through the zone. Displayed bat to ball skills and a patient approach on this in-game look.
Uncommitted ‘26 OF Griffin Neel had a strong game as well going 2-2, R, BB, SB. Neel has a strong, compact and stocky build with powerful levers. Hits from a wider, more spread stance and works from the ground up with his strength. Quick hands with a more direct path to the ball with strength at the point of contact.
Uncommitted ‘27 OF Chris Brown was another big contributor as he drove in 3 of the 6 runs for the Eagles with a 1-3 day. Stays inside of the ball nicely with loose, easy hands. Controls the barrel well with a proper sequence and keeps his approach in the big part of the field.

Lastly, ‘26 C and Linfield commit Joe Foss went 2-4 with a RBI on the day. A vocal, high energy player, Foss plays hard with plenty of intent and has the tools to impact the game in a lot of ways. Whether he’s setting the table at the top of the line-up or controlling the game behind the dish, he’s always making his presence felt on the diamond.
SKYLINE
For Skyline, there weren’t a ton of big takeaways on offense as they scored 1 run on 6 hits scattered throughout the line-up.
‘26 INF Andrew Yurkanin drove in their lone run with a sharp line drive single into the RCF gap. The lefty stick showed a balanced set up with a simple operation. The swing path has classic lefty loft working slightly uphill through contact.
On the bump, ‘29 RHP Charlie Obert established himself as an arm to watch in the class moving forward. He battled some command in this one but did a nice job limiting damage and working around traffic on the bases. Used mostly a FB/CB combo and attacked hitters north & south in the zone, changing eye levels. Went 6 innings allowing 2 ER.

SNOHOMISH VS MOUNTLAKE TERRACE (4.17.26)
Last Friday we had a WESCO showdown with Northern division Snohomish visiting Southern division Mountlake Terrace.
SNOHOMISH
For visiting Snohomish, they came into this match-up with some momentum and recent quality wins over Lincoln (Seattle) as well as Lake Stevens.
They gave the ball to uncommitted ‘27 1B/P Breckin Davisson to start this one off. It ended up being a relatively short outing with 3 innings of work but across those frames, Davisson flashed quality stuff to pair with his competitive presence on the bump. Working from a lower ¾ slot, pitched with the FB in the 81-85 range with some heavier action in the bottom of the zone. The SL was a standout secondary pitch with sweeping action and tight later break. He throws the SL with plenty of conviction and gets quality velocity at 74-76 on the breaker. Punched out 4 in 3 innings.

Offensively it was a quiet game overall from the Panthers. They scattered 6 total hits en route to scoring 2 runs in the contest. The previously mentioned Davisson was a standout hitter on this look going 1-4 with a 2B and run scored. The 2B was the only XBH of the day for Snohomish. The junior is having a strong offensive season so far and consistently gets to his raw power potential in game.
Former Future Games participant, ‘27 C Landon Klein added another knock for Snohomish with a well timed bunt single. He also started off the game with a sharp line drive that looked destined for the OF turf before being snagged at SS for a loud out. But overall the bat speed and athleticism were on display for Klein who remains one of the top uncommitted players in the junior class.
Senior INF Chase Clark (Edmonds CC) swung the bat well going 1-2 on the day with a BB. The lefty stick has a quick, easy swing and some natural rhythm to his operation. Plays stout defense at SS as well and is a nice piece to have in the center of the diamond.

MOUNTLAKE TERRACE
For the home squad, the Hawks got impactful contributions on both sides of the ball from their senior class. First, on the mound, they gave the ball to ‘26 RHP Jack Gripentrog (Seattle U), The D1 bound hurler showed off a power arsenal to go with his poised and mature presence. Extra strong, durable frame with a simplified delivery and tight, quick arm action. Finished with a final line of 4 IP, 3 H, ER, BB, 7 K

Gripentrog was also a key contributor on offense in this one, going 2-2, 2 2B, R, 2 RBI, 2 BB. A physical presence in the box, he showed easy oppo power on both of his hits. Lets the ball travel into the zone then can easily flick his wrists and move the barrel with easy authority.
Fellow senior ‘26 OF/P Owen Meek (Puget Sound) was also a huge presence for the offense as he went 3-3, 2B, 3B, 2 RBI on the day. Worked to all parts of the field in this one with a mature, yet aggressive approach. Got a FB he could handle early and pulled it into deep LF in his 1st AB. Then he worked to his oppo gap with a line drive 3B in his next time up. Finished his day with a sharp line drive single and an important sac fly late as the Hawks extended their lead. Stays quiet, relaxed at the plate with an easy forward move and quality swing path.

The 2 seniors combined for 5 of the 8 total hits on the day for the Hawks and then up-and-coming sophomore Xander Spence also made his presence felt with a 2-3 day as he notched 2 2B and 2 runs scored. The switch hitting C got it done from both sides of the plate. The left-handed swing especially showed exciting juice and pull-side pop. Behind the plate he handled the game well and threw out a runner at 2nd, showing quality catch and throw skills.

After Gripentrog was done on the bump, Terrace turned the ball over to ‘26 Tristan Wexler for the final 9 outs and he worked 3 quick innings as they wrapped up a 8-2 victory.
