Monday April 20, 2026

Brentsville District 6, Kettle Run 4

A cold breezy Monday featured a showdown between rivals at the top of the Northwestern District as Brentsville rolled into Kettle Run. The weather definitely impacted the game for both teams, but Brentsville was ultimately able to overcome it and rally to victory. Senior James McKinney was phenomenal in relief for the Tigers, going 6+ innings and allowing just 2 hits and 1 run with 9 strikeouts and sophomore Liam Marriott had 2 hits, including one that drove in the go-ahead run over a drawn-in infield in the fifth inning. For Kettle Run, Tucker Ascari had both of the Cougars’ hits in the game.

#18 Loudoun Valley 4, Heritage (Leesburg) 1

This one was a pitchers duel through the first nine innings of gameplay. After each team matched a single run in the early innings, nobody would scratch a run across until the top of the tenth, when Loudoun Valley would score three. A Liam Seeley double brought home two and a Caleb Woomer groundout would score another. Eli Acosta (Chatham) and Ryan Barrett were the only multi-hit players for Loudoun Valley, while Heritage’s Cooper Miskelly (Lynchburg) was the only Pride player to tally multiple hits. The pitching duel between Aiden Delaney (Mt. St. Mary’s) and Andrew Mazzara (Frederick CC) was a really good one, with both arms combining to allow two earned runs in over thirteen combined innings of work. The two starters also combined for nineteen strikeouts on the night.

Strasburg 7, Luray 6

Luray came out firing early with five runs on the board in the first two innings. Nick Cubbage and Connor Hilliard were a part of the offense with two doubles from them early in the game. Connor Hilliard had a quality start, but had to work around some defensive miscues and a couple of hits in the third. Jacob Britton and Harper Sherman had a couple of hits in the third to cut down the Luray lead. Strasburg would put up two runs in the top of the seventh to take the lead and close things out for a tough win.

#18 Lake Braddock 7, West Springfield 6

The Lake Braddock Bruins won in walk-off fashion on Tuesday night, winning 7-6 over their archrival, the West Springfield Spartans. The game was all West Springfield early, with the Spartans jumping out to a 6-0 lead after the 2nd thanks to strong performances from ‘27 Gavin Price and ‘27 Tanner Smith at the plate, and ‘26 Aaron Dierks (South Carolina) on the mound. However in the bottom of the third, Braddock would strike with four runs. ‘26 Matt Schaeb (Christopher Newport) had a two-run triple to lead the inning. Then in the 6th, ‘26 Matt Holcomb would tie the game with a single into center field. Then in the 7th, ‘27 Andrew Laskofski clinched a Bruins victory with a walk-off single to right field.

Goochland 4, Orange County 0

Goochland’s Charlie Harrington was dominant from the jump. Allowing only a few weak-contact hits throughout, finishing with a complete game shutout. Offensively, the Bulldogs were sparked by the freshman duo of Chase Hicks and Logan Everett. Late in the game, Hicks lined a single into left-center, and Everett followed with a knock down the left-field line to add a few runs on the board. The final score was 4–0, but with the way Harrington controlled the game, it felt even more lopsided.

#24 Jefferson Forest 7, Brookville 2

In a crosstown matchup, #24 Jefferson Forest handled Brookville 7–2 behind a strong outing from senior Travis McLaughlin (Walter State CC), who struck out 11 over 5.2 innings. The Cavaliers scored in multiple innings and capitalized on errors made. Sophomore Isaac Elder and junior Jackson Mistretta led the offense, with Elder providing two doubles and two RBI’s, and Mistretta with an RBI single and a double. Brookville would make a push in the sixth inning tacking on two runs but it would prove not enough to the previously established five runs from the Cavaliers.

#12 Western Branch 6, #9 Great Bridge 5

The #12 ranked Western Branch Bruins pulled off a dramatic 6-5 walk-off win over #9 Great Bridge after an error brought home the winning run in the eighth inning. Great Bridge jumped out early, building a 5-1 lead by the third inning behind timely hitting. Western Branch fought back late, tying the game in the seventh on a clutch single by Carter Walter. Strong relief pitching from Ryan Waddell helped keep Great Bridge scoreless and gave the Bruins a chance to rally. In the end, Western Branch completed the comeback to secure the win in thrilling fashion.

Woodgrove 2, Briar Woods 1

There wasn’t much offense to come by as pitchers were in control of this game. Nick Donatella (Salisbury) was on the mound for Briar Woods and had minor traffic keeping them within striking distance. Chad Nielson (Southern Virginia) had a strong outing throwing a complete game and helped lead the team to the tight win.

Tunstall 9, Bassett 3

A flurry of hits in the first two innings ended up being too much for Bassett to overcome. Tunstall tallied seven hits in the first two innings and chased the first two Bassett arm. Josh Neal provided plenty of support on the mound, working four shutout innings and striking out ten Bassett hitters. Luke Snow, Colin Toler, and Jake Howard all scored multiple runs on the day at the top of the Tunstall lineup, accounting for six of their nine runs.

#13 James Madison 8, George C. Marshall 1

This one was all Madison, with the Warhawks winning 8-1 over the Marshall Statesmen. It was a close game at first, with the score tied at 0-0 until the bottom of the fourth. That’s when the Warhawks tallied 8 runs and never looked back. For Madison, ‘27 Brady Myers (William & Mary) had a strong start backed up by a big double from ‘27 Will Smoot. For Marshall, ‘28 Elijah Petty was good in relief and ‘27 William Jacobi tallied the Statesmen lone RBI.

Poquoson 11, Smithfield 1

Brody Bunting dominated at the plate, going 4-for-4 with a triple to power Poquoson past Smithfield 11-1. The Islanders broke the game open with a six-run fifth inning, capitalizing on timely hitting. Poquoson’s offense stayed consistent all game, racking up 11 hits. John Rainone led the way on the mound, keeping Smithfield in check to seal the win.

Briar Woods 4, #3 Independence 1

Dani Jensen's dominance on the mound was the story of the night for the Briar Woods Falcons. The uncommitted junior righthander dazzled in 5+ innings of work, allowing only one hit, one run, and striking out seven. When Jensen left with two outs in the sixth, Independence still had not scored. While the offense was limited, the Falcons cashed in when they needed to, scoring two runs in the second and two runs in the sixth to give them some insurance. Liam Heffernan (McDaniel) and Cole Harris were the only multi-hit offensive players on the night for Briar Woods, while Indy was only able to manage two singles on the night.

#4 Miller School 9, Benedictine 0

It was the Kason Wagner (Coastal Carolina) show as he turned in another dominant start this season. He went seven scoreless innings, only allowing one hit and nine strikeouts. Chris Canady (Randolph-Macon) got the start for Benedictine and kept the Miller offense at bay until the fifth. John Michael Szefc (Virginia Tech) had three RBI’s on the day including two of them coming from his triple.
