The Prep Baseball Virginia/DC staff makes their way across the Commonwealth and DC throughout the spring to assist high school players in gathering evaluations, including video and some data, that allow our staff to assist in the potential recruitment of student-athletes.
With the staggering start of private and public schools, we have a deeper collection of notes and video on players in this edition of the Ground Forces Scout Blog.

Goochland
| |
Logan Everett OF / RHP / Goochland High, VA / 2029Picked up a clutch two-strike hit down the left field line to score two. Athletic frame and a contact-driven bat. Room to add strength to the frame as he continues to develop.
| |
Chase Hicks C / 1B / Goochland High, VA / 2029Physical frame. Was on the barrel multiple times throughout the game, showcasing the ability to be an extra-base bat in the middle of the Goochland lineup for years to come.
| |
Charlie Harrington RHP / OF / Goochland High, VA / 2027It was a lights out complete game shutout from Harrington. The mechanics and arm action are clean from a high three-quarters slot. He showcased confidence on the mound, pitching to contact with a quick pace. The average fastball velocity was down compared to what our staff has seen in the past, but it was still up to 86 mph and was just as efficient as ever.

Great Bridge
Cole Cinnamond LHP / 1B / Great Bridge High, VA / 2027Strong performance with five innings of work. Fastball was up to 90, working both halves. Secondary has improved since last look. Curveball often worked to hitters' back foot at times, causing uncomfortable swings. Competitor on the mound.
Jefferson Forest
| |
Isaac Elder 3B / OF / Jefferson Forest High, VA / 2028Longer frame with strength present to the pull side. Had a multi-extra base hit day at the plate with two pull-side doubles that would bring in two runs. Room to add strength to the frame.
| |
TJ McLaughlin LHP / 1B / Jefferson Forest High, VA / 2026A strong outing from the left-handed senior and Walter State CC commit. Made quick work of hitters and cruised through five innings of hitless ball with a high percentage of strikes, mostly fastballs with some arm-side life up to 88, and held velo throughout the start. Sliders came later in the start that would pick up a handful of K’s at 80-82. Saw some late traffic into the sixth but would earn the win with 5.2 IP and 11 K’s.

Lake Braddock
Evan Chambers C / RHP / Lake Braddock Secondary, VA / 2028Chambers impressed on Friday, with the sophomore tallying two hits and a crucial RBI. The sophomore works with an upright swing and shows an ability to work to the opposite field. In the fourth, Chambers tied the game up with a hard hit single into right field. Behind the plate, Chambers looked solid and handled a mid 80's arm.
| |
Andrew Laskofski 3B / RHP / Lake Braddock Secondary, VA / 2027Laskofski was the walk-off hero for the Bruins on Tuesday, going to the opposite field to send the game-winning run across home plate. Laskofski had a 2 for 4 day, with two singles and a stolen base. Laskofski has a line drive tendency and is able to use the whole field.
| |
Beau Padgett RHP / 1B / Lake Braddock Secondary, VA / 2026It was an excellent Friday night performance from Ferrum commit Beau Padgett. Padgett went the complete 7IP, striking out nine while not allowing an earned run. Padgett worked his fastball in the mid 80s, dominating with it in the zone. He worked at a 77% strike percentage over 97 pitches. Padgett’s strongest pitch was his slider, showing advanced feel to land it both for whiffs and called strikes. He also mixed in a changeup in the low 70s, using it primarily against left-handed hitters. Padgett also stayed composed with traffic on the bases, getting out of a bases-loaded, no out jam to finish his outing.

Menchville
| |
Jaylin Jubray OF / 3B / MENCHVILLE HIGH, VA / 2027Jubray was a spark plug at the top of the lineup. He is a twitchy athlete, and he collected two hits on the night with three RBI’s. He was on barrel multiple times throughout the game.

Mountain View
| |
Tyler VanDyke LHP / Mountain View (Stafford), VA / 2026Very lanky frame with a lot of room to add strength. He throws from a very low slot with some crossfire in his delivery, with shorter arm action with some quickness to it. The fastball was 81-83 with late armside run that also got a bit of depth to it. Slider was 69 with mostly sweeping action but a bit of downward lift as well. Got a ton of ground balls or low line drives, some just found holes. Riverbend had a hard time elevating the ball against him with the late life on his stuff.
Weston Yount OF / 1B / Mountain View High, VA / 2026Stronger athletic frame. Throws from a high slot with a short arm action. Shoulders closed off as he strides out, hiding the ball and creating some deception. Fastball was 80-83, touching 84, with a bit of run and some late sink to it. The best pitch is his curveball, a true overhand curve with good arm speed and a big sharp 1/7 break, pitch was 69-71. Got swings and misses on both pitches and punched out 4 of the 6 batters that he faced.
Nandua
Orion Loredo 1B / OF / Nandua High, VA / 2029A projectable frame that does not get cheated in the box. Went 1-3 on the day with an RBI double off the wall. Present strength to both fields.
New Kent
| |
Dylan Bowman OF / LHP / New Kent High, VA / 2027Athletic build with strength present. An imposing presence at the plate in the top half of the New Kent order. Multiple barrels on the day with quality at-bats throughout the day. In his first at-bat, Bowman hit the first pitch thrown to him well over the fence in right field for a no-doubter home run.
Riverbend
| |
Logan Carter OF / RHP / Riverbend High, VA / 2028Compact athletic frame with some twitchy athleticism. Covers ground in center field and also gets good breaks on the ball, which allows him to swallow up a lot of balls and make a big impact defensively. At the plate, a line drive hitter who uses the whole field and can line the gaps and use his speed to create extra bases. Had a backside single and drilled a ball right at the shortstop in his at-bats.
Shane Henderson RHP / 3B / Riverbend High, VA / 2028Henderson is tall with a very lanky frame that has a ton of projection left to it. Shoulders uphill and closed off as he strides out, with long, loose, quick, and clean arm action. Generates easy velocity. Fastball was 86-87 early, mostly sitting 87 and touching 88 once. He was still holding 85-86 in the fifth inning. Pitch has some serious downward plane to it and a bit of late arm-side run. Showed the ability to attack both inside and outside with the pitch and throw it for strikes whenever he needed to. Used a change-up against lefties with good arm speed at 81-82 and a bit of late fade to it. The primary off-speed pitch is a curveball that has some 11/5 shape to it and good arm speed at 74-76. The curveball improved as the game went on, and he has a chance to improve as he tightens up the spin on it as he develops. Showed the ability to throw all 3 pitches in and out of the zone when he wanted to and a lot of poise on the mound in a pretty big game against a veteran team. A really impressive showing and an arm to see for coaches the rest of this spring and this summer ahead of August 1.
| |
Caleb Rist RHP / 1B / Riverbend High, VA / 2026Rist has a strong athletic frame, with a lot of that strength in his lower half. On the mound, throws from a very high slot with a longer arm action and some late intent in his delivery. Fastball was 84-85, touching 86 once, he has downward plane on the pitch and a touch of late armside run, kind of rides a bit at the top of the zone. The primary off-speed is a hard slider that ran 76-79 with a late tight 10/4 break to it. At the plate, strength translates into contact, he shows a gap-to-gap line drive approach with some extra base power present.
Western Branch
| |
Markel Smith SS / 2B / Western Branch High, VA / 2026Had a strong performance on both sides. Had multiple quality at-bats and also stole a base in early innings. Spark plug at the top of the Bruins lineup. Fluid actions up the middle as well.
| |
Ryan Waddell SS / RHP / Western Branch High, VA / 2028Was dominant in four scoreless innings of relief. Ultimate competitor on the mound. Fastball was working both halves for strikes early and often at 87-89. Landed the sweeper whenever he wanted. Definitely a must follow for the 2028 class.
West Springfield
Aaron Dierks RHP / 1B / WEST SPRINGFIELD HIGH, VA / 2026The South Carolina commit and Prep Baseball Future Games alum had a short, but sweet outing on Tuesday. Dierks’ fastball worked with life in the zone, getting the majority of his strikes with it. The fastball worked mainly from 90-91 with some cut. He mixed in his breaking ball well, keeping hitters off-balance and getting multiple called strikes. Dierks also flashed a changeup at 84. He kept to 27 pitches, 18 of which were strikes, and only allowed two baserunners while striking out another two.
| |
Gavin Price OF / RHP / West Springfield High School, VA / 2027It was a good day for Price, going 2 for 4 with two big RBIs. In the first, Price laid down a beautiful bunt single to start a big frame for the Spartans. Later in the second, Price turned on one for a two-run double down the left field line. Price, from an athletic 5’11”, 175-lb build, is aggressive early in the count. However, he also showed an ability to simplify with two strikes and foul off pitches.
| |
Tanner Smith RHP / 1B / West Springfield High, VA / 2027Smith had a strong day with the bat on Tuesday, turning in a 2 for 3 day. In the first, Smith roped a double into the pull-side gap, nearly tallying an RBI if not for a good throw. In the sixth, Smith was aggressive on the first pitch to line a single to the opposite field. He also showed an ability to work the count, battling a 7-pitch at bat earlier in the contest.
Woodson
| |
Grant Goltry C / OF / Woodson High, VA / 2028Goltry had a strong performance at the plate, going 2 for 4 with an RBI. Goltry has a simple swing, working without a stride from his 6’0”, 175-lb frame. He showed a strong hit tool on Friday, knocking one hard into center field in the first with two strikes. Then in the third, Goltry got down to a low pitch to drive an RBI knock into left field. Behind the plate, Goltry was athletic. In the sixth, he delivered a strong throw to eventually catch a runner stealing.
