Today it is the second release of the Virginia/DC Small School Top 10. The Small School Top 10 is a team rankings set focused on VHSL Class 1 and Class 2 schools from around the state. The schools that make these rankings are public school only teams. While we do have a limited knowledge of roster makeup of some of these teams, quality wins are of the utmost importance and head to head records are weighted much more heavily. Take a look at some notes on a few teams from inside the rankings and a few on the outside.

• Fort Chiswell makes a jump to number three in the Small School Top 10. They picked up a signature win with a 4-0 win against Auburn. The offense has continued to put up runs over the last two weeks. While they did lose once, it was to an out of state school that has had success this season. They return to in state competiton looking to continue the momentum. 

• Central Lunenburg has continued to dominate competition and put up numbers offensively. They have scored double digit runs in 9 out of 10 games. To go along with the offensive numbers, the pitching staff have had five shutout games. They have handled competition but lack a signature win. They have one looming with a James River District battle with Randolph-Henry that could shake up the Small School 10.

• The Riverheads Gladiators are a new face this week coming in at number 9. They enter on a six game win streak. The pitching staff has thrown well with four shutouts on the year. They have handled competiton well and their lone loss came in a one run loss to a Class 3 school. 
  
  
  

• Along with our Power 25 every Monday and Private School Top 10 every Wednesday, we will update the Small School Top 10 every other Tuesday. Our next update will come on May 12th, and there will be a total of three updates before our fourth and final update on June 8th.
