IHSA Daily Roundup: May 7th

No. 1 St. Laurence defeated Providence Catholic by the score of 11-1. The Vikings offense was led by Tristan Steger (2027; Kentucky Commit), who went 4-for-4 with a solo home run and three doubles that drove in five RBIs. Ryan Lotus (2027) drove in two RBIs of the contest, including a sacrifice fly. Cory Les (2026; Louisville Commit) and Mickey Lotus (2026; Lewis Commit) each stole two bases and knocked in an RBI. Les hit the RBI single, Lotus with the bases-loaded walk. Samuel Chin (2026; Ball State Commit) pitched a five-inning complete game and struck out five batters.

Marist took down No. 2 Lincoln-Way East by the score of 4-3. RBIs came from Nick Pigatto (2028) and Jack Bullington (2028). Pigatto hit the RBI single in the third inning while Bullington hit the go-ahead sacrifice fly in the bottom of the sixth inning that proved to be the game winner. Ryan Lawlor (2026; St. Mary's (MN) Commit) had a day though because he hit two singles, scored two runs (one on an error), and stole a base. Ryan Rosas (2026; UW-Platteville Commit) got the win in relief by tossing two innings and retiring five of the six batters via the strikeout. For Lincoln-Way East, Tyler Hudik (2026) drove in two of the three RBIs for the Griffins on his game-tying two-RBI double in the top of the sixth inning.

No. 5 Brother Rice defeated DePaul College Prep by the score of 10-9. The Crusaders offense was led by Brady Cunningham (2027; Texas A&M Commit), who went a perfect 3-for-3 with a hit by pitch, single, double, two-run home run, three runs scored, and four RBIs. Nolan Ramoley (2026; Northwestern Commit) walked and knocked in a two-RBI double while stealing a base on the basepaths. Nate Millan (2026) walked, took a hit by pitch, and drove in an RBI single in this contest. Austin Mrskos (2026) got the win in relief by dealing the final three frames and recording three punchouts.

No. 6 Lane Tech routed Payton College Prep to a lobsided victory of 18-0. The Champions offense was led by Zolan Wyatt (2026; UW-Oshkosh Commit), who went 3-for-3 with two singles, two-run home run, two runs scored, and four RBIs. Conor Sullivan (2026) went 2-for-3 with a walk, two-RBI double, RBI triple, and three runs scored. Jeremiah Aguiniga (2026) had a perfect day at the plate by going 3-for-3 with two doubles, a single, three runs scored, and two RBIs. Jorge Castellon (2026) knocked in a two-RBI single in this contest. Three pitchers combined to throw a four-inning no-hitter. Alex Delaney (2026; Hope Commit) threw the first two innings and struck out a batter. Hunter Smith (2026) dealt the third inning and punched out two of the three batters he faced. Donovan Yoest (2026) closed it out in the fouth inning and only gave up a walk.

No. 8 Libertyville defeated Carmel by the score of 13-3. 12 runs came in the first two innings of the contest. Jack Cenar (2026) led the Wildcats offense by going 2-for-2 with an RBI single, three-run homer, and two runs scored. Aksel McKnight (2027) walked and drove in a two-RBI single while stealing two bags on the basepaths. Mathew Hara (2027) hit a lead-off home run to put the offense on the board early. Chase Lockwood (2026; Illinois State Commit) got the start and threw 2.2 innings and struck out six. Ian Maddux (2026) came in relief and punched out four batters in his 1.1-inning scoreless outing.

Loyola Academy took down No. 10 Mount Carmel by the score of 7-6. Dom Maloney (2027) had a strong relief outing by going 4.2 innings and striking out nine. On offense, Bennett Kono (2028) and Peter LaFontaine (2026; Milwaukee Area Technical JC Commit) hit back-to-back home runs to get it started for the Ramblers. Then, in the fourth inning, RBI singles came from Barrett Schifferdecker (2028) and Teddy Kurtzweil (2026) as part of a four-run inning. In the bottom of the seventh, Anthony Reavy (2026; Milwaukee School of Engineering Commit) hit the walk-off RBI single to win it for the Ramblers. The Mount Carmel Caravan made an effort to come from behind and win the contest. Their offense came from TJ McQuillan (2026; Wake Forest Commit) with the RBI double and solo blast, Logan Fernandez (2026; Triton JC Commit) the RBI single, and Anthony Chavez (2026; Illinois Commit) with the RBI double. On the pitching side, Jake Matise (2026; Lewis Commit) went five innings and struck out ten batters.

No. 11 St. Joseph-Ogden shut out Prairie Central by the score of 10-0. The Spartans offense was led by Trevor Ames (2026; Morton JC Commit), who went 2-for-3 with a two-home run game that drove in five RBIs. Bryson Houchens (2026; Morton JC Commit) hit a sacrifice fly, a two-RBI double, a walk, and scored two runs. Logan Rosenthal (2026; Heartland CC Commit) went 3-for-3 with two singles, a two-RBI double, a walk, stolen base, and three runs scored. Asher Pruemer (2026; Kaskaskia JC Commit) delivered five-inning one hitter and struck out ten batters.

No. 13 Triad shut out Jersey by the score of 2-0. Kannon Seipp (2027; Jefferson JC Commit) drew a bases-loaded walk while Nolan Keller (2026; Kaskaskia Commit) hit an RBI single, which was enough for the Knights to get the job done on offense. Two pitchers combined to toss a no hitter. Matt Morris (2028) went 6.2 innings and struck out seven. Grayson Yank (2026) retired the final batter to complete the combined no hitter.

No. 15 Lemont shutout Blue Island Eisenhower 10-0 to earn their 20th victory of the season. Sean Crane got the win on the mound allowing one hit over six shutout innings, while striking out six. Brett Tucker (2026; SIUE commit) led the Lemont offense with three hits including a double, two RBI, and three runs scored. Seven starters reached base safely in the contest.

No. 16 Geneva defeated Glenbard North 11-5 behind a big day from Aidan Hall (2026). Hall was 2-for-4 on the day with a HR, 2B and four RBI. Alex Abraham (2027; 3-for-4, 2B, 2 RBI) and Mason Bruesch (2027; Michigan State commit; 2-for-3, 2B, 2 R, BB. Bruesch also got the start and the win on the mound allowing two runs over five innings, while striking out eight.

No. 17 Marquette held on to defeat Putnam County 3-2. Griffin Dobberstein (2027) turned in a dominant outing on the mound, going six innings while allowing just one run on five hits and striking out 10. Anthony Couch (2026; Spoon River JC commit) collected the save striking out two in his lone inning. Braxton Nelle (2027) had a three hit day for the Crusaders. Despite the loss, Maddox Poole (2028) went six strong innings allowing just one earned run.

No. 19 Minooka defeated Oswego 7-1 to earn their 20th win of the season. Logan Mackin (2027) went the distance, allowing just two hits and one unearned run over seven innings while walking two and striking out seven. Brady Kozlowski homered and drove in four and Ryan Keener (2026; Illinois Wesleyan commit) was a perfect 3-for-3 on the day.

No. 20 Normal University cruised past Richwoods 14-4 to improve to 22-3 on the season. 10 players recorded a hit for the Pioneers, highlighted by big days from Cole Brent (2027; Illinois commit; 3-for-3, 3B, 2 RBI, 3 R, BB, HBP, SB), Landon Beckman (2027; 3B, 3 RBI) and Chenzo Cottone (2026; 2-for-3, RBI, 3 R, BB, SB). Colton Carpenter (2028) got the win on the bump going four scoreless innings, striking out four.

No. 23 O’Fallon held off a late comeback to defeat Collinsville 10-9.The middle of the order did most of the damage for the Panthers, as Carson Bauer (2026; Drury commit; 2 H, 2 RBI, 2 R, BB), Brayden Robertson (2026; Illinois-Springfield commit; 2-for-5, 3B, 2 RBI, R), and Cole Becker (2026; Central Alabama CC commit; 2-for-4, 2B, 2 RBI, R, BB) formed a powerful 2-3-4 punch in the lineup. Ben Tillman (2027; 2-for-4, HR, 3 RBI, 2 R, BB) had a big game for the Kahoks.

Burlington Central took down Jacobs 6-4. Sam Maglares (2026; 4.1 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 7 K) and Tyler Kotwica (2026; Carthage commit; 2.2 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 3 K) combined to get it done on the mound. Kotwica also added two hits and an RBI at the plate. Liam Schultz (2027) homered for the Rockets. Brock Vincent (2028; 2-for-4, 3B, 2 R) led the Golden Eagles.

Belleville West defeated Alton 1-0 in a pitchers duel for their second straight shutout. Lucas Womack (2027) only needed 87 pitches to go all seven innings, allowing just five baserunners and striking out five. Bryce Schaltenbrand (2026; Kaskaskia JC commit) drove in the only run via a sac fly and Braden Fournie (2026; Lindenwood commit) doubled. Despite the loss, Logan Hickman (2026; John A. Logan commit) looked sharp surrendering one unearned run over six innings, striking out nine.

Aurora Christian routed Somoauk to a lobsided victory of 17-3. The Eagles offense was led by Colin Gary (2028), who went 2-for-3 with a double, three-run home run, and four RBIs. Noah Hensley (2026; Aurora Commit) also got in on the long ball with a two-run homer. Zach Zappia (2026) drove in a pair of RBI doubles. Nolan Robertson (2026) hit the RBI triple. RBI singles came from Noah Zappia (2028) twice, Jackson Zorger twice, Gavin Pesek, and Cristian Huerta (2026; St. Xavier Commit) (two runs). Nolan Robertson threw two hitless innings and struck out four while walking two batters. Noah Zappia struck out two of the four batters he faced in his inning of relief.

Neuqua Valley beat DeKalb 4-2 behind a strong performance from Christian Lott (2026). Lott went six scoreless innings, allowing six hits and striking out five. Andrew Barkley (2026; 2-for-3, 2B, RBI, 2 R) and Sam Widloe (2028; H, 2 RBI) led the way for the Wildcats offense.

Carrollton defeated Carlinville by the score of 7-3. Reed Schnettgoeke led the Hawks offense by going 3-for-4 with a double, two singles, two runs scored, and three RBIs. Eli Cox (2026; Shawnee CC Commit) drew a walk and knocked in a pair of RBI singles. Charlie Stumpf tossed the first inning and struck out three batters. Landon Grafford had a long relief outing by going 5.1 shutout innings and striking out three to earn the win.

South Elgin defeated West Chicago 8-1 for their 20th win of the season. The Storm got contributions up and down the lineup, highlighted by David Kiel (2027; 3-for-3, HR, 3 RBI, 2 R, 2 SB), Evan Gomez (2028; 2-for-3, HR, 2 RBI, R, HBP), and Krish Patel (2027; 2-for-3, 2B, RBI, R, SB).

Carterville defeated Murphysboro by the score of 11-1. Zach Snow (2027) and Anson Anderson both knocked in two RBIs at the bottom of the order. Snow went 2-for-2 with a hit by pitch, two singles, a stolen base, run scored, and two RBIs. Anderson went 2-for-3 with a pair of singles, including one that knocked in two RBIs. Drake Capie (2026) knocked in one as well. Anderson also took the mound and tossed 4.2 innings and struck out a batter to earn the win.

Genoa-Kingston scored four in the top of the seventh to defeat North Boone 11-7. Lane Davidson (2027; 3-for-3, 2 HR, 4 RBI, 3 R, BB) had a monster day at the plate. Preston Kolota (2028; 3 H, R), (Jack Peterson (2026; 2 H, R), Blake Ides (2027; 2 H, 2B, R), and Owen Zaccard (2026; 2 H, RBI, 2 R, BB) all had multi-hit performances.

Carver defeated Englewood Stem by the score of 15-5. Alejandro Padilla led the Challengers offense by going 2-for-2 with a walk, two stolen bases, and two doubles that knocked in three RBIs. Darius Hamilton Jr. hit an RBI double while Jose Solorzano hit the RBI single. The Challengers recorded a total of 30 stolen bases alone in this contest. Eight of them came from Madison Ornelas, five from Angel Hernandez, four from Jose Solorzano, and three from Issac Evans. Anthony Huizar Perez went 2.1 relief innings and struck out five batters.

Carson Woods, Jonathan Malloy and Bryce Carlson each had a pair of hits as the Rams improved to 19-3 on the season. Milwaukee Area Tech commit picked up his 3rd win of the season fanning five and allowing two runs for five innngs.

Maine East took down Maine West 10-3. Senior Andrew Merza threw 6.2 innings to earn the win.

Glenbrook South took down New Trier 6-1. Sam Sehlhorst fired a complte game with just one run allowed on six hits, striking out six with just one walk. Xander Kourvetaris was 3-for-4 and scored twice. Anthony Nottage drove in two runs and was 3-for-4. James Dooman drove in one, scored twice and was 2-for-4.

Westmont took down Crossroads Christian 8-7 in walk-off fashion to improve to 20-9 on the year. Nikolai Baldin deliverd the winning hit, finishing 2-for-3 with three RBIs. Hank Barrett earned the win on the mound with four strong innings, two earned runs and two strikeouts. Jaxson Chinea scored three runs including the game winner. This is the 16th team in school history to reach 20 wins.
