2A State Finals: Recap

2A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP

The 2A State Finals took place Saturday night between St. Joseph-Ogden and Harvest Christian-Westminster.

St. Joseph-Ogden got off to a hot start, scoring six runs in the bottom of the first. The inning was highlighted by doubles from C Will Haley (2026; Kankakee CC commit), 3B Finn Miller (2027), and 2B Asher Pruemer (2026; Kaskaskia JC), all driving in runs.

The Spartans would add a couple more runs in the second inning from a two-run home run over the left field wall from 1B Bryson Houchens (2026; Morton JC).

St. Joseph-Ogden didn’t stop there as they tacked on five more runs in the third inning, highlighted by RBI doubles from Houchens and Miller. SP Trevor Ames (2026; Morton JC) would get in on the fun as he connected on an RBI single.

1B Carter Goetz (2027) would give Harvest Christian-Westminster their first run of the day in the fourth inning.

The Spartans would continue their scoring affairs in the fourth inning as CF Logan Rosenthal (2026; Heartland CC) would highlight the two-run inning with an RBI triple.

St. Joseph-Ogden would close it out in the fifth inning and take the 2A first place trophy by a score of 15-1.


THIRD PLACE GAME

The 2A third-place game took place Saturday afternoon between Freeburg and Ottawa Marquette. SS Griffin Dobberstein (2027) got the Marquette on the board early with a two-run home run over the left field wall in the bottom of the first. 3B Caden Durdan (2027) would follow up two batters later with an RBI single to give the Crusaders a 3-0 leading into the second inning. LF Easton DeBernardi (2027) would add on to the lead in the bottom of the third with a solo home run to left-center. Freeburg would answer in the top of the fourth as RF Jonathan Barlow (2027; Bradley commit) would connect on an RBI double to center field. The Crusaders were lead on the mound by RHP Anthony Couch (2026; Spoon River JC), who struck out seven batters through six and third innings while allowing only one run. Debernardi would come in for the final two outs, helping Ottawa Marquette to claim the 2A third-place trophy.
