PBT Rock 14U Summer Championship: Takeaways

This past weekend, our staff hosted the 13/14U Rock Summer Championships at The Rock in Franklin, WI. This event kicked off our summer tournament circuit from a scouting standout, with numerous players showing well for themselves throughout the weekend.
Today, we are taking a look at some of the weekend's standouts with this takeaways piece, below.
14U Takeaways
5 Star Wisconsin 14U
+ OF/RHP, Wyatt Goldapske (Horace Mann, 2030)
5-foot-9, 164-pound, right-handed hitting second baseman. Compact level swing. Able to drive the ball from left-to-right, contact on the barrel. Went 2-for-3 with double, RBI single and scoring two runs in the games against Windy City Bombers 14U. Also threw a five inning no-hitter Saturday night against GRB Rays Illinois-Mattsie with two walks and 10 strikeouts. Worked mostly fastballs at 77-79 T80, thrown downhill with ASR. A two way prospect to follow in Wisconsin
+ SS Lincoln Pierstorff (Neenah, 2030)
Pierstorff came away a winner this weekend. Presents an athletic 5-foot-8, 150-pound build. Showed a simple, twitchy swing with power to drive the gaps. Ended up 7-for-13 at the plate with two triples, five RBI, and zero strikeouts. Looked the part defensively with clean footwork and a fluid, strong arm that played at multiple slots.
AHQ Hibel 14U
+ SS Nolan Gabryel (St. Charles North, 2031)
5-foot-5, 135-pound frame with room to grow. Athletic mover. Showed well from the leadoff spot with a twitchy, adjustable swing from the right side. Clean defensive actions up the middle.
+ 1B Jaden Payton (St. Viator, 2030)
Athletic 5-foot-10, 170-pound left-handed first baseman. Illinois Rising Stars Game participant. Explosive swing with feel for the barrel. Finished the weekend 4-for-11 with a double and a home run. Fluid actions in the infield, bag awareness.
+ 1B AJ Pollizze (St. Viator, 2030)
Physical athlete for his age that stood at 6-foot-1,185-pounds. Laced a line drive double that banged off the wall on Sunday morning. Swings a strong barrel that stays in the zone.
Arizona Diamondbacks Scout-Midwest
+ RHP Dominic Ramos (Immaculate Conception, 2030)
5-foot-11, 155-pound athletic frame. Twitchy, low-¾ delivery. Worked quick, used multiple leg kicks out of the windup to disrupt timing. Offered an advanced three-pitch mix. Fastball sat 77-79 mph with run, topped 80. Changeup at 68 mph with late sink, sweeper at 63 mph. In two innings of work, faced six batters and struck out three.
+ C/3B Hayden Jones (DeForest, 2030)
6-foot-1 190-pound frame, well-defined lower half, squared shoulders. The right-handed hitter had two barrels on the day. He moved a runner over to third in his first at-bat going hard to the opposite side. He also showed the ability to turn on a pitch and create lift, driving the ball off the towering 27-footwall, plating a run.
Cangelosi Sparks Jirik
+ LHP Dillon Phelan (Nazareth Academy, 2030)
Athletic, 6-foot, 167-pound frame. Showed well on both sides Friday evening pitching three scoreless innings, with five strikeouts, no hits, no runs. Fastball sat 78-82 mph with sink. Smooth left-handed swing as well from the three hole hitter. Was on base multiple times, showed off his legs with a few stolen bases on the day as well.
+ RHP Mikey Miller (Brother Rice, 2030)
6-foot-6, 195-pound frame with room to add. Showed flashes of athleticism. Went four innings during his start, gathering nine strikeouts. Fastball sat 80-81 mph and held throughout, touching 82 several times. Showed a big 11-5 curveball at 61-63 mph.
CRB 2030
+ SS/RHP Joaquin Vargas (Horizon Science Academy-McKinley Park Charter, 2030)
5-foot-6, 130-pound frame. Short arm action on the mound. Fastball sat 72-74 mph, topped 75 mph. Paired an 11-5 curveball at 61-62 mph. Showed an above average pickoff move to first base. At the plate, went 5-for-12 with three doubles over the course of the weekend.
Encompass Expos-14U-Kemp
+ LHP/OF Liam Sievert (Cloquet Senior, 2030)
Athletic 6-foot, 155-pound frame with room to add strength in the outfield. Looked the part offensively with multiple hits including a double down the left field line the other way in a look this weekend
+ SS/RHP Jordy Wieck (East, 2030)
Wieck was all over the barrel against Top Tier American. With a quick, level swing from the right side of the plate. Wieck utilized both left and centerfield, collecting three hits, including an RBI triple.
GRB Rays Illinois Goodman
+ RHP/MIF Ethan Muniz (McHenry East, 2030)
5-foot-4, 122-pound left-handed hitting middle infielder. Fluid defender, quick hands. Smooth swing at the plate, name to follow in the coming years.
GRB Rays Illinois Matsie
+ RHP/1B Connor Lawlor (Cary Grove, 2030)
A 5-foot-11, 165-pound frame with repeatable actions on the mound in this look. Pitched four innings, no hits, no runs with five Ks and three BBs. Fastball sat from 74-76 mph, T77 and got plenty of whiffs and missed barrels. His curveball was 65-66 mph, spinning it with a 11/5 shape, paired nicely with a changeup that was 68-70 mph with fade.
+ INF Luke Redman (Hampshire; 2030)
5-foot-10, athletic 150-pound frame. Efficient right-handed stroke, with direct path to contact; showing feel for the barrel. Versatile defender, with smooth easy actions.
+ RHP Braden Murray (Cary-Grove, 2030)
6-foot, 160-pound frame. Twitchy athlete, quick arm, projectable frame with long levers. Racking up six strikeouts in 5.1 innings of work, Murray showcased a fastball that sat 79-82 mph to pair with a breaking ball that sat 68-69 mph while also flashing a change-up at 74 mph. Fastball played with life, consistently getting whiffs at the top of the zone.
Halos National 2030
+ INF/C Nolan Nielsen (Whitnall High, 2030)
5-foot-8, light footed athlete with smooth controlled movements all weekend. Played third base and catcher. Made multiple plays at the hot corner. Impressed with a line drive homerun to left field and went 7-for-12 on the weekend. Easy bat strength with more to come. Bat to follow in Wisconsin.
Hit Dogs Illinois Busch
+ C John Hode (Crystal Lake Central; 2030)
5-foot-10, 200-pound frame. Maintains a consistent operation as a switch-hitter. Small leg lift, compact stroke, generating power behind the baseball. Quick instincts behind the plate, with quality defending and blocking skills. Feel for the zone.
+ OF/LHP Cam Durham (Limestone Community, 2030)
Wiry 5-foot-9 160-pound frame with athletic actions in center. Showed feel for the barrel this weekend with plenty of room to add strength. Also a left handed arm to note.
+ OF/LHP Colton Stillwell (Benet Academy, 2030)
Long levered athlete with 5-foot-11, 140-pound athlete with a loose-athletic arm action, pitches with confidence. He went four scoreless innings, walked one, and struck out nine in a 10-0 win. His fastball was 73-76 mph, T77 with life and collected numerous whiffs. He also spun a breaking ball at 61-63 mph with 1/7 shape that he threw for strikes. A left handed arm to follow in the state of Illinois.
+ 1B/RHP Blake Fisher (Washington, 2030)
6-foot-1 165-pounds, well-proportioned frame, rounded shoulders. The right-handed hitter stands tall at the plate, hands over plate, tight to the ball, pull-side power, one-handed finish. Fisher delivered a clutch performance against TPA Wasco Red, recording two hits in two at-bats while squaring up the baseball throughout the game, including a line drive two-run home run over the left field wall, and an RBI single.
+ SS Giovanni Qualtier (Joliet Catholic, 2030)
5-foot-5 135-pound frame. Gritty playstyle. Put on a defensive showcase against Minnesota Herd. Qualtier has a strong, fluid arm, comfortable throwing from multiple slots, ranges well to both sides, and showcased an advanced internal clock. Qualtier made a barehanded play on a soft deflection off the pitcher. Offensively, a left-handed hitter, had a bunt single, and a walk on the day.
+ C/RHP Luca Sando (Washington Community; 2030)
Mature 5-foot-8, 175-pound frame, right-handed arm. Sando has a high leg kick with a short arm action. Fastball sat 80-83 mph; worked heavy through the zone. Breaking ball was 70-72 mph generating whiffs. Held a talented Hitters Navy team to one run, while striking out seven across 5.2 innings. Behind the plate, Sando exhibited strong hands as well as advanced blocking ability. Batting out of the two spot, Sando showed feel for the barrel and a line-drive approach.
Hitters Black 2030
+ CF Blake Gresky (Providence Catholic, 2030)
Looked the part at the plate Saturday morning going 3-for-3 with a gap to gap approach. Was all over the barrel today with a triple, double, and single. Confident actions in center as well with an arm that will play. A name to look out for in the future.
Hitters U14 Navy 2030
+ C/SS Chris Worell Jr. (Oak Creek, 2030)
6-foot, 180-pound frame, high-waisted and lean build, plenty more room to add strength, highly projectable. Athletic mover with a polished left handed swing that only produced loud contact all weekend, attacks early in the count, minimal swing and miss, mature/polished approach for the age. Smooth actions at shortstop with an arm that plays across the infield. One of the best hit tools in the 2030 class, one of the top incoming freshman in the midwest.

+ 3B/SS, Kaleb McCall (St. Charles, 2030)
5-foot-6, 145-pound right-handed hitter. Tall batting stance, compact swing. Hands stay together, drives the ball with loud contact on the barrel.
Impact Sports Academy Royal
+ LHP/OF Nolan VanDamme (Escanaba, 2030)
5-foot-9, 135-pound frame with room to add. Athletic mover, simple delivery with a high leg kick. Full arm circle, whippy arm. Fastball sat 75-77 mph, topped 78 mph with arm-side run. Utilized a curveball at 56-58 mph. Showed an above average pickoff move to first base. Also looked the part at the plate. Went 5-for-11 with a double and a triple.
JBA Clutch
+ 3B Aiden Iverson (Little Wolf, 2030)
5-foot-8, 125-pound frame with room to continue to add on strength. Swung a confident bat on Saturday with a loud double to his pull-side gap.
+ OF/RHP, Michael Blohm (Lakeland, 2030)
5-foot-11, 175-pound right-handed hitter. Hit an RBI triple on the fly to left field against Encompass Expos 14U, longer, athletic swing.
+ OF/RHP Michael Blohm (Lakeland, 2030)
5-foot-11 175-pound frame with a strong base, proportional upper body. Right-handed hitter, even stance, toe tap load, still head, fluid, level, two-hand-swing. Blohm had a strong performance against GBR Rays Illinois (Goodman) going 1-for-3 at the plate with double roped into the left center gap and a walk, collecting two RBIs and a run on the day. Blohm threw the bulk of the innings in relief sitting 75-78 mph on the fastball and 65-67 mph on the breaking ball. He posted no hits in three and a third allowing two earned on five strikeouts and five walks.
Lake County Lightning 2030
+ LHP/OF Keagen Mentkowski (Antioch Community, 2030)
6-foot, 164-pound frame with room to add. Impressed on the mound with seven strikeouts in five innings, allowed two hits and two walks. Fastball sat 73-75 mph, topped 76 mph with above average control. Paired a curveball at 60-61 mph with confidence in all counts. At the plate, finished 6-for-12 with eight RBIs on the weekend with two triples and an inside-the-park home run.
+ UTIL Greg Formica (Grayslake Central, 2030)
5-foot-11, 145-pound, long-limbed frame. Versatile athlete, featured at catcher, third base, right field, and pitcher during the weekend. Showed a strong, fluid arm, put on display while throwing out a runner stealing second base. Athleticism proven at catcher, catching a pop-up against the backstop netting. Showed flashes at the plate with some loud contact, including a two RBI double late in the weekend.
Macstrength Grizzlies Black
+ 1B Sam Gillham (Shakopee, 2030)
Strong 5-foot-7, 170-pound frame. Smooth right-handed swing with pop. Finished the weekend 4-for-8 with two doubles and a triple. Sure-handed glove at first base, picking several balls off the turf.
MASH 14U Black
+ 3B/1B, Braxton Weber (Mondovi, 2030)
6-foot-2, 225-pound, left-handed hitting first baseman. Athlete with a compact swing, hits for power, hands stay together and head stays still on follow-through. Hit a two-RBI single on the line to right field in the game against AHQ 14U - Hibel.
+ OF/LHP Tyler Nelson (Eagan Senior, 2030)
6-foot-2 170-pound, long-levered, left-handed arm. Pounded the zone, strong fastball, sitting 76-81 mph, topping at 83 mph with arm-side-run. Hard breaking ball, sitting 74 mph, topping 75 mph. Struck out nine batters in five innings, allowing four runs, two earned on seven hits, only walking one.
+ 3B/RHP Alex Illa (Eagan, 2030)
Athletic 5-foot-11,175-pound frame with tight turns and swing that stays on plane. Doubled to deep right center in a look on Sunday morning. Showed feel for the barrel that paired well with smooth actions at the hot corner. Strong lower half, ¾ arm slot, synced delivery. Mostly fastballs at 78-80 mph, T81 with arm-side run, flashed a curveball at 63-64 mph with 12/6 action.
+ SS/RHP Tyler Miskowicz (Eagan Senior, 2030)
Miskowicz came away a winner this weekend making plenty of noise on both sides of the ball. He went 2-for-7 at the plate with a double, a triple and three RBIs. Has a clean swing from the right side with a slightly open stance and quick hand speed. On the mound he struck out five in only two innings of work. Clean operation and gets down the mound well. His fastball sat 81-83 mph, T84 with life. Curveball was 68-70 mph with bite. Also showed a splitter that was 69-72 mph.
Minnesota Herd Gold
+1B Isaac Uwimana (Prior Lake-Savage, 2030)
5-foot-11, 130-pound right-hand hitting first baseman. Tall, smooth swing with some pop. Went 4-for-9 over the weekend with a double and a triple. Comfortable defensively at first base.
Minnesota Renegade 14U Navy
+RHP/OF Johnny Boone (Providence Academy, 2030)
Physical 6-foot-2, 180-pound build. Explosive lower half. Utilized a simple leg kick into a drop and drive delivery. Fastball sat 76-79 mph. Confident in the changeup at 64 mph, went to it often. Showed flashes at the plate with some loud contact throughout the weekend.
PTA Cardinal 14U
+ OF Beau Schur Jr. (Wauwatosa East, 2030)
Lean, athletic 6-foot, 160-pound frame. Smooth, twitchy swing with some pop. During the weekend, went 8-for-11 with two doubles, two triples, and six RBI.
PTA McIntyre 14U
+ OF William Schmitz (Arrowhead, 2030)
5-foot-8, 146-pound frame with room to add strength. Had a solid day at the plate Friday morning with a double driven into the opposite field gap that drove in two. Tripled earlier in the day as well.
Slammers Black 2030
+ LHP Will Buckingham (Carmel Catholic, 2030)
Athletic 5-foot-9, 140-pound frame with room for physical development. Fluid arm on the mound. Mixes looks with runners on base. Fastball sat 71-74 with run. Changeup was 63-67 with depth. Finished his outing with 5.2 innings pitched, seven strikeouts, and two earned runs.
Team Elite IL
+ 2B/3B, Aaron Barba (Aurora East, 2029)
5-foot-10, 180-pound left-handed hitter. Big body, hits for power. Bent knees on batting stance, compact swing, able to keep his hands together on the follow-through to drive the ball.
Top Tier Americans 14U
+ INF Aydin Duria (St. Laurence; 2030)
5-foot-7,154-pound frame, right-handed hitter. Twitchy athlete, with gap to gap power, quick hands and bat speed. 5-for-12 on the weekend with three triples. Vocal leader with clean actions on the infield.
+1B/RHP, Nolan O’Brien (St. Laurence, 2030)
6-foot-3, 175-pound, right-handed hitting first baseman. Athlete, hits for power. Long swing with a whippy barrel, bat path stays level to the ball, keeps head still. Went 1-for-2 with a fielder’s choice, walk, and an RBI single that he ripped to left field, also scored a run in the game against Windy City Bombers 14U.
+ C/3B, Jackson Wawczak, (Montini Catholic, 2030)
5-foot-11, 160-pound, right-handed hitting catcher. Big leg kick with a compact swing, able to keep his hands close to his chest to get the ball on the bat, even on inside pitches. Level swing path, head stays down.
+ 1B/RHP Nolan O'Brien (St. Laurence, 2030)
The 6-foot-4 180-pound build. Stands tall at the plate, has a slightly open stance, a fluid, strong, level swing with minimal swing and miss. Showed the ability to be disciplined at the plate with great feel for the strike zone. Lined a single in a look on Saturday afternoon
+ C/INF/RHP Aaron Cavazos (St. Laurence, 2030)
5-foot-9 165-pound frame, strong upper half, well-developed lower body. Cavazos recorded 10 strikeouts while tossing five no-hit innings, completing the game while allowing two earned on five walks against JBA Clutch. Two-pitch mix, fastball had late arm-side-run, sat 75-78 mph, pounded the zone, ability to get ahead early. Curveball moved well off the fastball, swing-and-miss ability. Also, a right-handed hitter, batting leadoff. Tall stance, strong hands, level swing, showed the ability to jump on high-and-in fastballs, ripping one to left field for a double.
+ 1B/RHP Kyle Gesiakowski (St. Laurence, 2030)
Athletic 6-foot, 180-pound frame with a young body. Barrel stays on plane and in the zone. Punched one up the middle in a two-strike count in a look this weekend.
+ C/OF Evan Goetz (Burlington Central, 2030)
Physical 5-foot-8, 150-pound frame with fast hands and strong lower half. Lined a single the other way in a look with two-strikes this weekend
+OF/3B Ethan Chan (Hinsdale Central, 2030)
Athletic 5-foot-10, 160-pound frame with a fluid swing. Line-drive approach with feel for the barrel. Lined a single into left field in a look this weekend. Smooth actions defensively in the outfield.
TPA Wasco Red
+ OF Cayden Forbes (Marmion Academy, 2030)
Athletic 5-foot-9, 140-pound left handed outfielder. Smooth swing with feel for the barrel. Went 2-for-3 with a double on Sunday morning. Looked very comfortable in right field with quality routes.
Whitefish Bay Jr Dukes Blue
+ SS/RHP, Adrian Van Caster (Whitefish Bay, 2030)
5-foot-10, 130-pound right-handed hitter. Compact swing, keeps head down on follow-through, arms stay together. Bat stays in the zone.
Windy City Bombers
+ SS/RHP Liam Gosman (Northbrook Junior, 2030)
5-foot-11, 160-pound, right-handed pitcher. Low-¾ arm slot, full arm circle, controlled delivery, stretch only. Got the start vs. Encompass Expos - Kemp 14U, went seven innings with nine strikeouts, two hits, three walks, and a run. Struck out the side in the second inning. Fastball sat 71-74 mph, high usage all over the zone to get hitters out. Curveball sat 62-65 mph with gradual break, was mostly painted low and away to hitters.
+ 3B/RHP Caleb Gomez (Lake Central, 2030)
6-foot, 195-pound, right-handed hitter. Athlete with a compact swing, head stays down while driving the ball, level bat path. Smooth mechanics on every cut. Knocked in an RBI double while going 1-for-2 in the game against 5 Star Wisconsin 14U. Continued to Sunday hitting singles on the ground and on a line.
+ SS Dane Mularski (Barrington, 2030)
5-foot-9, 160-pound, right-handed hitting shortstop. Tall batting stance, compact swing, hands stay together and connected, loud contact on the barrel when putting the ball in play. 2-for-4 day with two singles against Encompass Expos - Kemp 14U, including an RBI bunt single in which he ran a 4.22 down the line.
+ 1B Samuel Bonnstetter (Notre Dame College Prep, 2030)
6-foot, 170-pound, right-handed hitting first baseman. Wide batting stance with knees bent. Holds bat above his shoulders. Compact swing, able to keep his hands together to drive the ball on the barrel.
+ SS/2B Colton Hamblin (Lake Zurich, 2030)
5-foot-7, 145-pound, right-handed hitting second baseman. Tall and swaying batting stance, holds bat above his shoulders. Compact swing, long arms on the follow-through, and able to keep his head down and put the barrel on the ball in play. Went 1-for-2 with a single on a line to left field in the game against 5 Star Wisconsin 14U. Finished 2-for-2 with a pair of line drive singles to left field along with an RBI - also scoring two runs in the game against Encompass Expos - Kemp 14U.
