Oregon Class of 2027 - May Rankings Update
May 27, 2026
As we near the end of high school baseball, Prep Baseball Oregon begins our latest series of player rankings updates. Over the coming weeks, we'll unveil our rankings for each of the high school classes, featuring some of the top high school talent Oregon has to offer. Today, we'll unveil the update for the junior class, the 2027's.
After a busy high school season, the junior class sees several shakeups throughout the list, with spring performances being the primary evaluating tool since our March edition. This summer serves as a huge marker for the 2027 class, as we tend to see a majority of players secure their college commitment in the coming months heading into their senior year. Several of these 2027's will also be seen at our Summer ID events, PNW State Games, and Senior Future Games events in an effort to showcase their skills to college recruiters.
Below is a breakdown of the junior class, including takeaways from the top, spring standouts, and newcomers to watch. Stay tuned the next two Wednesdays for the rankings updates for the 2028 and 2029 classes.

At The Top
Within the top ten, much of the list remains the same, after the top juniors in Oregon solidified their positions with strong spring campaigns. Central High School's Joe Mendazona remains our top-ranked player in the 2027 class. The TCU commit has been on a tear since missing the first part of his high school season, slugging XBH and getting on base at a high clip while working deep into games on the mound as well. Last seen at PNW State Games last summer, Mendazona is a durable 6'3, 195 pound prospect with pop from the left side of the plate and an arm up around 90 MPH at his best on the hill. Mendazona, alongside fellow top-ten junior and Oregon commit JT Girod, lead the way for a Central program that could make some real noise in the 5A state playoffs.
Elsewhere in the top ten, Clackamas arms Jaxon Wetzler and Cade King headline a talented pitching group. Wetzler, a University of Oregon commit, moves from the 5th to the 4th spot in the rankings after a strong junior spring. Last seen at the Future Games this past summer, the tall lefty generates easy extension with a long, whippy arm that leads to the 6'3 frame appearing even longer down the mound. King, a University of Washington commit, was great in a live look this spring against a talented South Salem squad. The 6'3 righthander sat 87-89 with his fastball, mixing in two different breaking pitches to work 3 hitless frames. King and Wetzler headline what is one of the deepest high school staffs we've seen in a long time for Clackamas, the number one ranked team in our Power 25 High School Rankings.

Another player seen in-game recently, Beaverton's Chase Austin moves up to the number 5 spot in our latest rankings edition. The OF/LHP is likely more of a bat when it's all said and done, carrying a heavier barrel through the zone with speed and accuracy shown consistently. The Oregon State commit carries enough athleticism to stick in any outfield spot defensively. On the mound, Austin has delivered several gems for Beaverton, working deep into games with ease. Beaverton dropped a close first round game in the 6A state playoffs on Monday, but Austin delivered a great effort on both sides of the ball and will be a POTY candidate next spring for his senior campaign.
Spring Standouts
Within our high school coverage this season, many players have impressed and have earned boosts in their rankings. Jesuit's Julian Vina has been exceptional on the offensive side of the baseball. The righthander slashed .392/.457/.759, adding 5 home runs, 10 doubles and 29 RBI this season. A versatile defender at catcher or a corner outfield spot, Vina remains an intriguing uncommitted prospect on the board heading into the summer. Vina's great high school season builds on a standout performance at PNW Preseason All-State, where he posted exit velocities up to 99 MPH and a 1.87 pop time.

Evan Eagle is another position player who earns a significant boost up the rankings after a great winter showcase into a strong spring season. The Wilsonville High School righthander carries middle of the infield traits with a quality glove and arm, paired with a quality bat that has slotted well in the three-hole for the Wildcats. Eagle was seen at the Eugene Preseason ID this March most recently, where he posted consistent rounds of batting practice with mid-90's exit velocities and throws up to 84 MPH across the infield.
On the pitching side, Forest Grove LHP Kevin Carrieri delivered one of the most impressive performances we've seen from Oregon this spring. The junior threw a complete game shutout against a Power 25 side in Sherwood, changing eye levels well and dominating start to finish. Carrieri allowed just 3 hits while striking out 8 batters in his outing, chipping in at the plate as well to help secure a narrow 1-0 victory. A 6'0, 200 pound prospect, Carrieri pairs a mid-80's fastball with life with a CB/SL offspeed combination. Carrieri tore up his league competition on the mound all spring and is an uncommitted arm to follow heading into the summer.

Notable Newcomers
Several bats have produced breakout performances this spring and earned themselves spots in the latest rankings update. Lake Oswego outfielder Kell VanDehey had a great performance in a live look, collecting 2 doubles and 3 total hits overall. The big-bodied corner-type carries plenty of raw strength and power with a heavier barrel through the zone. VanDehey has been a force in the middle of the order for Lake Oswego as they make their push in the 6A state playoffs this week. The junior's breakout performance this April results in one of the highest debut spots of any player in our list.
South Salem's Ben Greer was another standout performer in-game during a live look this season. A multi-sport athlete, Greer moves well and carries present strength and athleticism in all facets of his game. The bat is more contact over power to this point, hitting .351 with 26 total hits and 27 RBI for the Saxons. The righty sets with lower hands before a powerful load and trigger move through the zone with looser wrists, accelerating through contact. Greer will be an important piece for the Saxons next season.

A bit further down the rankings, St. Paul's Jack Gregory also makes his first appearance in our 2027 rankings. The junior was recently seen at the Pacific Northwest Summer ID, our first showcase ID event of the summer. The bat is the leading tool to this point, carrying bat speed up to 77 MPH resulting in exit velocities up to 96.3 MPH. A medium-framed righthander, Gregory moved well behind the plate defensively with developing arm strength. He also posted a 6.88 60-yard dash time. Gregory is a name to circle coming out of one of the smallest classifications of Oregon high school baseball.
