IHSA Daily Roundup: May 15th

No. 2 Normal Community shut out Bloomington, winning 11-0. Oliver Vercrysse (2027) pitched five shutout innings, only allowing two men on base all game with four strikeouts. Lucas Beaty (2027) drovve in a pair of runs and scored two runs of his own, going 1-for-3 on the day with a double. Andrew Nour (2026) and Luke Potts (2027) also collected a hit of their own and drove in two runs to help secure the win.

No. 3 Lincoln-Way East took down No. 4 Lockport in a thrilling finish, winning 9-8. Rocco Triolo (2027) saw the ball well and played the hero in this one, finishing the day 4-for-5 with a homer run, two RBIs, and two runs, including hitting the game winning single in the bottom of the seventh to secure the win. Evan Riiff (2027; Valparaiso) and Keegan Crabtree (2028) each had a multi-hit day at the plate, with each hitting a double and finishing 2-for-5 and 2-for-3 with an RBI, respectively.

No. 5 Brother Rice defeated Evergreen Park by the score of 17-5. The Crusaders offense was led by Joey Escobarete (2027), who went 3-for-4 with a pair of RBI singles, a grand slam, two runs scored, and six RBIs. Brady Cunningham (2027; Texas A&M Commit) got in on the long ball as well with a two-run shot while drawing a walk. RBI singles came from Gavin Stanislawski (2027) twice, Treylan Webster, and Dominick Vicari (2027) (two RBIs). Aidan Dillon (2027) pitched three innings and got the win while striking out two and giving up a run.

No. 7 Huntley routed Hampshire to a 15-3 victory to improve to 26-4 of the season. The Red Raiders offense was led by Aiden Eickelmann, who drew a walk and hit a grand slam as part of a 13-run third inning. Leo Bianchin (2026; Kishwaukee JC Commit) hit a sacrifice fly, drew a bases-loaded walk, and knocked in an RBI single while scoring two runs. Drew Borkowski (2026; Heartland CC Commit) went 1-for-2 with a walk, a two-RBI single, and scored a run. Diego Herrera (2026; Parkland Commit) hit a pair of RBI singles in this contest. Sean Dabe (2027) tossed four innings and struck out six hitters to earn the win.

New Trier took down No. 8 Libertyville for a 4-3 victory over a top 10 ranked opponent in Illinois. Keenan Donaldson (2026) led the offense by going 1-for-2 with a walk, RBI groundout and a solo home run. Nathaniel Blazo (2027) went 2-for-2 with a walk and two singles, including one that knocked in an RBI. Trevor Bacik (2027) tossed a 109-pitch complete game and struck out ten hitters while giving up three runs. For Libertyville, Madden Cotts (2027; Bradley Commit) had a 2-for-2 day with an RBI double and an RBI triple.

Crystal Lake Central took down No. 9 McHenry 6-5 for a victory against a top 10 ranked opponent in Illinois. The Tigers offense was led by Logan Laudadio (2027), who hit a three-run homer. Nick Kohlhase (2027) hit an RBI single in this contest. Both hits were part up a crooked number put up in a four-run fourth inning. Wade Ozment (2027; Illinois Commit) had a huge day with two singles, two walks, and an RBI. Owen Kelley (2027) hit the walk-off RBI double to win it for the Tigers. For McHenry, their key hits came from Jeffry Schwab (2026) with an RBI single, and Scotty Cole (2026; McHenry County JC Commit) with a two-RBI double. These hits were part of a four-run sixth inning that tied the game at five.

No. 10 Triad had the bats working on Friday, defeating Belleville East by a score of 15-3. Keegan Seipp (2027; Xavier) had two doubles on the day, finishing 2-for-2 with two walks, two RBIs, and two runs scored. Nolan Keller (2026; Kaskaskia) also had a multi-hit day at the plate, finishing 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI, and two runs scored. Kannon Seipp (2027; Jefferson JC( and Brody Hasquin (2027) also put together multi-hit games at the plate, with each also scoring two runs. Seipp finished with two RBIs and Hasquin collecting one of his own en route to the win. Pearce Goodfield got the start and put together three strong innings of work, allowing three hits, an earned run, and striking out three.

No. 13 Geneva took down Wheaton North 13-4. Aidan Hall (2026) and Ryan Kastor (2026) each went deep in the game, with driving in three on the blast and Kastor driving in two. Tate Beran (2027) collected a double in a 2-for-4 performance, driving in two runs and scoring twice.Geneva also got a strong start out of AJ Minderman (2028) who went six innings, allowing six hits, two walks, three runs, and striking out four.

No. 15 Mascoutah defeated Columbia by the score of 9-1 to improve to 24-5 of the season. The Indians offense was led by Carson Moll (2026; Rend Lake JC Commit), who went 3-for-4 with three singles and four RBIs. Specifically, this includes a pair of two-RBI singles. Mason Bennett (2027) went 2-for-3 with a double, single, walk, stolen base, two runs scored, and two RBIs. CJ Epps (2027) hit the RBI double, and Sean Hulsey hit the RBI single. Nolan Lebert (2026; Olivet Nazarene Commit) tossed a complete game a struck out three hitters while giving up an earned run.

No. 16 Marquette shutout Princeton by the score of 14-0 to improve to 29-1 of the season. The Crusaders offense was led by Anthony Couch (2026; Spoon River JC Commit) and Easton Debernardi (2027), who knocked in three RBIs each. Couch went 2-for-2 with a walk, RBI single, and a two-run homer while Debernardi went 2-for-2 with a walk, stolen base, and a three-run homer. Alec Novotney (2026; Valparaiso Commit) got in on the long ball with a two-run home run. He also stole a base in this contest as well. Anthony Couch took the mound and fired a five-inning complete game one-hit shutout and struck out eight hitters while only giving up a walk.

No. 16 Marquette defeated Newman Central Catholic 17-5 for the Crusaders second victory of the day. They improve to 30-1 of the season. Easton Debernardi (2027) took the mound and tossed four innings and struck out nine to earn the win. He helped himself by leading the offense with six RBIs. He went 3-for-4 with a single, a hit by pitch, and a pair of three-run home runs. Grant Dose (2026; Morton JC Commit) went 2-for-5 in this contest, including a two-RBI single. Griffin Dobberstein (2027) finished the last three innings and struck out six hitters without allowing a run.

Hinsdale Central took down No. 18 Lyons 5-1 to win the three game series. Charlie Miller (2027; 3.2 IP, 5 H, R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 3 K) and Billy Main (2026; Dartmouth commit; 3 IP, 2 H, 0 R, BB, 3 K) shut down the Lyons offense. Max Judge (2027) led the Red Devils offense going 2-for-3 with three RBI. Patrick Connors (2026; Boston College commit) chipped in with two hits and an RBI. Blake Ragsdale (2027; TCU commit) collected two hits for the Lions.

No. 20 Lincoln-Way West defeated Lincoln-Way Central 10-8 to earn their 20th win of the season. The Warriors scored seven runs in the bottom of the third thanks to a grand slam from Michael Pettit (2026; Notre Dame commit). Matt Oberts (2026; Wisconsin-Platteville commit) also left the yard, finishing the day with 1-for-1 with two RBI, two walks, and two runs scored. Carson Paulas (2026; 2 H, 2 RBI, BB, 2 SB) and Quentin Lange (2026; 2 H, R) each had two hits. Owen Chudzinski (2027) got the win in relief going 3.2 innings, allowing two earned runs while striking out five. Conor McCabe (2026; Illinois Wesleyan commit; 3-for-3, HR, 3 RBI) and Danny Houston (2027; 2-for-3, HR, 2 RBI) had big days for the Knights.

No. 22 Edwardsville walked off Jersey in the bottom of the eighth inning on a game-winning single from Nolan Vojak (2027). Grant Peterson (2026; HR), Hunter Baugh (2026; Lindenwood commit; 2B, RBI), Sean Murphy (2026; 2 H, BB), and Maxon Karnes (2026; H, 2 RBI) led the Tigers offense. Andrew McKey (2026) tossed a perfect inning with two strikeouts in a full staff effort. Graham Vanausdoll (2028) collected three hits and two RBI for the Panthers.

No. 23 Dunlap cruised past Illinois Valley Central 10-1. Ryder Rennette (2028) led the Eagles offense going 2-for-4 with a double and three RBI. Gavin Gibbs (2027) chipped in with a double and three runs scored, and Truman Tyra (2026) collected a hit and two runs scored. Tristan Pittenger got the start and earned the win on the mound, tossing four innings while allowing just one run. Brett Alkire (2027) was dominant in relief, striking out five over two scoreless innings.

Newton defeated Fairfield 8-2. Carter Barthelme (2028) tossed a complete game on the mound allowing five hits, two runs and striking out five. On offense, every player in the Newton lineup had at least one hit.

St. Rita defeated Berwyn/Cicero Morton 2-1. Sullivan Kazee (2026; Southeastern CC) tossed a complete game, allowing one run on two hits and a walk, while punching out seven. Colin Quinn (2026; Heartland CC) went 1-for-2 with a walk-off sacrifice fly to secure the victory for the Mustangs.

Westmont defeated Lake Forest Academy 18-11 to improve to 26-9 on the season. Landon Hicks (2027) went 5-for-5 with five RBI. Nikolai Baldwin (2026) got the win on the mound throwing striking out seven over five innings. Max Meza (2029) went 2-for-2 while also drawing three walks. C.J. Balcer (2027) went 2-for-3, while Ricky Yenkin (2027) and Jaxson Chinea (2027) each drove in three.

O’Fallon defeated Freeburg 7-4 to earn their 20th victory of the season. Anthony Perez (2026) reached base in all four plate appearances via walk, setting the table for Carson Bauer (2026; Drury commit; 2 H, RBI, 2 R), Brayden Robertson (2026; Illinois-Springfield commit; 2 H, 2B, 2 RBI, R), and Liam Decker (2027; 2B, 2 RBI) to drive in runs from the middle of the order. Lavin Tull (2027; 4 IP, H, 2 R, ER, 4 BB, 5 K) was solid in relief.

Sandburg took down Stagg 11-4. Nine Eagles collected a hit in the contest, highlighted by three hit performances by Giovanni Longo (2026; Roosevelt commit; 3-for-4, 2 RBI), Quinn Durken (2027; 3-for-4, 2B, RBI) and Jake Tomczak (2027; 3-for-3, 2 RBI). Lucas Rosas (2026; Benedictine (IL) commit) was sharp in relief, throwing 1.2 perfect innings, striking out three.

Sacred Heart-Griffin beat Maroa-Forsyth 5-1. Will Coady (2026; 4 IP, H, R, 5 BB, 2 K) and Drew Ward (2026; Illinois Wesleyan commit; 3 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 2 K) combined to give up one run in the contest. Ward also doubled and drove in two at the plate, while Austin Rutter (2027) added a triple for the Cyclones.

Glenwood held on to beat Morton 5-4 in extra innings. Reid Peterson (2 2B, RBI), Quentin Hale (2027; HR) and Cole Woodward (2028; 2 H, RBI) led the way for the Titans. Hale got the start on the mound and went five innings, allowing two earned runs, and collecting five strikeouts. Woodward earned the victory going the final three innings, allowing three hits, one unearned run, and one walk, while striking out four.

Cary-Grove took down Jacobs 10-8 to sweep the two game season series. Canyon McKinney (2026; Carthage commit; 2 2B, 4 RBI, 2 R, SB), Joey Pristera (2028; 3-for-4, RBI, 2 R), and Mason Klimek (2028; 2-for-4, 2B, 2 RBI, R) led the Trojans offense. Andrew Deegan (2026; Belmont commit; HR, 2B) had a big day for the Golden Eagles.

St. Charles East rolled past Batavia 13-6 behind a big day from Kyle LaRose (2027; 3-for-4, HR, 2B, 4 RBI, BB). Nikolai Vahmistrovs (2026; Dubuque commit; 2-for-4, HR, 3B, 2 RBI), Gavin Fuscone (2026; HR) and Sean Groselak (3-for-4, 2 RBI) also had solid performances. Ben Johnson (2027; HR, 2 RBI) and Chase Hampton (2026; HR) each left the yard for Batavia.

Lake Zurich cruised past Vernon Hills 15-6. Blake Zabel (2026) collected four hits and drove in two runs for the Bears. Alex Toth (2027; 3-for-4, 2 2B, RBI, 3 R), Nick Verden (2027; 2-for-3, HR, 2 RBI) and Reid Pfeifer (2026; 3-for-4, 3 RBI) powered a strong offensive attack. Connor Schoen (2027) was sharp in relief, going 2.1 perfect innings.

Wauconda rolled past Grayslake Central 17–2 to complete the three-game series sweep and earn its 20th win of the season. The offense exploded for 17 runs in three innings, led by Luke Sickmeir (2027; 3-for-4, 2B, 5 RBI, 3 R), Lucas Swanson (2026; 2 H, HR, 4 RBI, 2 R), Jake Thorstenson (2026; 2 H, 3B, 3 RBI) and Caleb Diver (2026; Illinois Central JC commit; 3-for-3, RBI, 3 R).
