Rising Stars On The Radar: 2029 C Drew Gable (Cherokee)

Nathan Goranson
Northeast Scout

Gable is a talented catcher out of Cherokee HS in Southern New Jersey. The physical, barrel chested 6-foot, 210-pound catcher is finding his power at the plate this high school season with 4 home runs through 52 at bats so far. Gable is continuing to make noise like he did at the Prep Baseball Junior Future Games at Lakepoint.

Offensively, his physicality and athleticism makes him an offensive threat whenever he steps up to the plate. At the plate, he hits with a toe-tap gather that is under control and allows him to fire his hips to create a powerful impact on the baseball. During the PBJFG he produced a 94.4 max exit velocity and 373 foot max distance while staying under control and maintaining balance and repeatability within his swing.

Defensively, Gable has shown to be a natural thrower from behind the plate with an effortless throwing motion that was up to 75 mph last summer. His blocking and receiving skills continue to improve every time our staff gets that chance to see him play. He displays the willingness to make difficult blocks and the receiving skillset to be a highly reliable defensive catcher as he progresses through high school.

Overall, this power-hitting catcher that already has hit 4 home runs halfway into his freshman campaign is a player to follow for years to come. He is an impactful player on both sides of the baseball.
