Karson Powers RHP / SS / Johnson Central High School, KY / 20307.0 IP | 1 H | 0 R | 0 BB | 11 K | 1 W Taking home this week’s pitching award is 2030 RHP/SS Karson Powers out of Johnson Central High School. The eighth grader becomes the first middle schooler to earn Player/Pitcher of the Week honors this season, and he did so in dominant fashion with a big time statement outing on the mound. Powers was outstanding in a 9-0 victory over Martin County, tossing a complete game one-hitter across 7.0 shutout innings. He allowed just a single hit with no walks while striking out 11. The 5’11” 192-pound right-hander was nearly perfect, retiring the first 20 batters he faced before surrendering the lone hit with two outs in the seventh inning, coming one out away from a perfect game. The young arm has been a staple for the Golden Eagles all season long, primarily working out of the bullpen while also making four starts across 10 appearances. On the season, Powers has totaled 37.0 innings with just 21 hits allowed and 7 earned runs, good for an impressive 1.32 ERA while striking out 46 and walking just 11. Johnson Central appears to be heating up at the right time, riding a nine-game winning streak and sitting atop the 15th Region standings as postseason play approaches. Powers’ emergence has been a big factor in that success as the Golden Eagles aim for a second consecutive trip to the State Tournament. Congratulations to Karson Powers on being named the Prep Baseball KY Pitcher of the Week! |
