WIAA Diamond Notes: Week 4

Each week, WIAA coaches around the state submit to us their nominations for the Prep Baseball Wisconsin Player of the Week and Prep Baseball Wisconsin Pitcher of the Week honors. Yesterday, we awarded the Week 3 Player of the Week to INF Dawson Luther (Pittsville, 2026; Wisconsin-Stevens Point), Luther has been a top performing bat for Pittsville helping them to a 3-0-1 record with the right-hander going 13-for-18 in that stretch while driving in 10 RBIs. The Pitcher of the Week is LHP Logan Wierzba (West De Pere, 2026; Iowa Western JC), Wierzba fired a seven innings shutout while striking out 17 batters and allowing just one hit and a walk.
There were a number of other impressive performances that were in the mix for the award and deserve recognition. Here’s a look at some of the most notable.
Week 4 Diamond Notes
+ Cayden Burtness, SS (Pewaukee, 2027):
Burtness was exceptional at the plate, going 10-for-11 with four walks. He recorded one double, one triple, one home run, and four RBIs. He also showed great speed on the basepaths by recording 11 stolen bases.
+ Sam Wells, RHP/RF (Brookfield East, 2026):
Wells made two appearances on the mound across 6.1 innings, including one start where he struck out 10 batters and walked none against Wauwatosa West. He also pitched in relief in a significant spot against Muskego, allowing no runs and striking out one. Overall, Wells allowed five hits and no runs while striking out 11. At the plate, Wells went 10-for-18 with one walk, two doubles, and six RBIs.
+ Griffin Donahue, SS (Random Lake, 2027):
Donahue had a highly productive week, going 10-for-13 at the plate with one walk and three doubles. He contributed five RBIs and successfully recorded seven stolen bases.
+ Jace Mataczynski, SS (Hudson, 2026):
Mataczynski displayed significant power, going 9-for-13 with two walks. He tallied one double, one triple, three home runs, and nine RBIs. He also recorded three stolen bases.
+ Dominick Walters, LF (Franklin, 2026):
Walters delivered a dominant performance at the plate, going 9-for-14. He recorded three doubles, two triples, and one home run, including a bases-loaded triple off the wall against Racine Case. He finished the week with 11 RBIs and two stolen bases.
+ Jackson Suttle, 3B/C (Brookfield East, 2028):
Suttle went 9-for-14 at the plate with four walks and one double. He drove in seven runs, including two key RBIs to help lead his team to victory against Muskego. He also recorded two stolen bases.
+ Braun Wotruba, MIF/RHP (Pulaski, 2027):
Wotruba threw a complete game against Ashwaubenon, allowing four hits, three walks, and no runs while striking out eight batters. Offensively, he went 8-for-17 with one walk, two doubles, and one home run. He finished with three RBIs and two stolen bases.
+ Decker Kleppin, 3B (Random Lake, 2027):
Kleppin went 8-for-14 at the plate with one walk and four doubles. He hit one home run, drove in eight runs, and recorded two stolen bases.
+ Ian Kawczynski, SS (Catholic Memorial, 2026):
Kawczynski put up strong numbers, going 8-for-16 with three walks. He recorded three doubles, two triples, and one home run. He also contributed eight RBIs and four stolen bases.
+ Carson Roemhild, SS (Boyceville, 2026):
Roemhild was a major threat on the bases, recording 13 stolen bases. At the plate, he went 8-for-12 with three walks, two doubles, and two triples. He also drove in three runs. On the mound, Roemhild made two appearances totaling eight innings, allowing three hits, four walks, and no runs while striking out 13.
+ Luke Mrazek, RF/RHP (St. Thomas More, 2027):
Mrazek pitched a complete game one-hit shutout against Greenfield, allowing no runs and three walks while striking out nine. Offensively, he went 8-for-13 with two walks, one double, and two triples. He drove in seven runs and recorded two stolen bases.
+ Blake Carthew, 2B (Columbus, 2026):
Carthew was 8-for-15 at the plate on the week. He recorded two doubles, five RBIs, and two stolen bases. He also played four games error-free in the field.
+ Jordan Mobry, CF (Columbus, 2026):
Mobry served as the lead-off hitter and went 8-for-12 with one walk. He recorded two doubles, one RBI, and six stolen bases while making multiple tough catches in center field.
+ Jesse Sobczak, LF (Catholic Memorial, 2027):
Sobczak went 7-for-13 with four walks and one double. He hit one home run, drove in four runs, and recorded two stolen bases.
+ Landon Stelter, 2B/DH (New Glarus, 2026):
Stelter went 7-for-11 at the plate with three doubles. He recorded six RBIs, including a 4-for-4 performance with three RBIs against Edgerton.
+ Jett Horton, SS (Cambridge, 2026):
Horton went 7-for-13 at the plate with three walks and three doubles. He recorded five RBIs and three stolen bases.
+ Peyton Lenell, SS (Brookfield Central, 2026):
Lenell went 7-for-16 at the plate with two walks. He recorded one double, one triple, one RBI, and two stolen bases.
+ Gus Weinholzer, OF/RHP (Neenah High School, 2026):
Weinholzer pitched a seven-inning complete game against Appleton East, allowing three hits, one walk, and no runs while striking out nine. Offensively, he went 6-for-13 with two walks, one double, and one home run. He drove in eight runs, including a two-run home run that pulled his team within one run.
+ Brady Berg, C (Stratford, 2026):
Berg went 6-for-14 at the plate with three walks and two doubles. He hit one home run, drove in 11 runs, and recorded four stolen bases.
+ Chase Thomas, LF/LHP (Catholic Memorial, 2029):
Thomas pitched six innings against Kettle Moraine, allowing four hits, one walk, and no runs while striking out six. At the plate, he went 6-for-15 with two doubles, one triple, and one RBI.
+ Brady Mohns, 3B (Brookfield Central, 2026):
Mohns went 6-for-15 at the plate with two doubles. He drove in two runs and recorded one stolen base.
+ Mack Krause, SS (Neenah, 2026):
Krause went 5-for-12 at the plate with three walks. He hit two home runs and recorded eight RBIs and one stolen base.
+ Brayden Zimmerman, RHP/DH (Slinger, 2026):
Zimmerman pitched five innings against Whitefish Bay, allowing seven hits, two walks, and two runs while striking out nine. Offensively, he went 5-for-13 with one walk and hit one home run while driving in six runs.
+ Evan Ruesch, SS, 3B (Brookfield East, 2026):
Ruesch went 5-for-8 at the plate with one walk. He recorded one home run and seven RBIs, including a grand slam during a 4-for-5 performance with six RBIs against Wauwatosa West. He also recorded two stolen bases.
+ Blake Vandeloo, OF (Kaukauna, 2027):
Vandeloo went 5-for-11 at the plate with four doubles. He finished the week with nine RBIs and two stolen bases.
+ Gavin Sawyer, OF (Slinger, 2026):
Sawyer went 5-for-12 with four walks and one double. He contributed four RBIs and recorded four stolen bases.
+ Joe Meeter, RF/1B (Holmen, 2026):
Meeter went 4-for-11 at the plate with two walks and one double. He hit two home runs, recorded four RBIs, and stole one base.
+ Brady Kleinheinz, SS (Marshall, 2026):
Kleinheinz went 4-for-10 with one walk and two doubles. He hit one home run and recorded seven RBIs, falling just a triple shy of the cycle against Deerfield.
+ Easton Agnew, RF (Milton, 2026):
Agnew went 4-for-11 at the plate with two walks and one triple. He hit one home run, drove in eight runs, and recorded one stolen base.
+ Evan Welsh, LF (Williams Bay, 2026):
Welsh went 4-for-12 at the plate with two walks, three RBIs, and two stolen bases. He also made multiple highlighted defensive plays in the field.
+ Carter Birdyshaw, RHP/SS (Weyauwega-Fremont, 2027):
Birdyshaw made two appearances on the mound totaling 12.1 innings, including a combined no-hitter against Tri-County. Overall, he allowed three hits, one walk, and no runs while striking out 27 batters.
+ Damian Kosempa, RHP (Marquette, 2026):
Kosempa pitched six innings against Brookfield Central, allowing no runs and zero hits. He issued four walks and struck out 15 batters.
+ Keegan Kruzan, LHP (Wausau West, 2027):
Kruzan made two appearances totaling 6.1 innings, highlighted by a start where he struck out 14 batters and allowed one run in a win over Eau Claire North. Overall, he allowed one hit, three walks, and one run while striking out 14.
+ Ben Jones, RHP (Mukwonago, 2026):
Jones pitched 6.2 innings in a start against Arrowhead, allowing two hits and four walks. He allowed one run and struck out 11 batters.
+ Landon Lasahn, RHP (Verona Area, 2026):
Lasahn pitched seven innings against Sun Prairie West, allowing four hits and zero walks. He allowed one run and struck out 10 batters.
+ Evan Harbort, RHP (Cambridge, 2028):
Harbort pitched six innings in a start against Waterloo, allowing one hit, one walk, and no runs. He struck out 10 batters.
+ Cal Juckem, 1B, P (Neenah, 2026):
Juckem pitched five innings against Kaukauna, allowing two hits, no walks, and no runs while striking out eight.
+ Noah Melby, RHP (Brookfield East, 2026):
Melby pitched six innings in a start against Wauwatosa East, allowing three hits, one walk, and no runs while striking out eight.
+ Kamm Nehmer, RHP/OF (New Glarus, 2028):
Nehmer pitched six shutout innings against Wisconsin Heights, allowing two hits, one walk, and no runs while striking out seven.
+ Nathan Miller, RHP (Slinger, 2026):
Miller pitched six innings against Whitefish Bay, allowing five hits, one walk, and three runs while striking out six.
+ Teagan Tate, RHP (Oconto Falls, 2029):
Tate made his first varsity start and pitched a complete game one-hit shutout against Waupaca, allowing no runs and no walks while striking out six. Offensively, he knocked in the winning run with a single.
+ Andon Schroeder, RHP (Slinger, 2026):
Schroeder made two appearances totaling 7.1 innings against Whitefish Bay and Pulaski, allowing 10 hits, three walks, and two runs while striking out five. He notably earned a save in a one-run game against Whitefish Bay.
+ Isaac Behnke, RHP/OF (Hortonville, 2025):
Behnke made two appearances totaling 11 innings against West De Pere and Menominee Falls, including a five-inning no-hitter against West De Pere. Overall, he allowed four hits, five walks, and no runs while striking out five.
+ Mason Opetz, RHP (Slinger, 2027):
Opetz made two appearances totaling eight innings, including three shutout innings out of the bullpen against Whitefish Bay. He allowed eight hits, no walks, and one run while striking out one.
+ Niko Frangopoulos, OF (Arrowhead, 2026):
Frangopoulos went 4-for-4 against Wisconsin Lutheran. He recorded four RBIs and hit a two-run home run.
+ Damen Lonstine, SS (Cedarburg, 2027):
Lonstine played in four games, recording 13 stolen bases and scoring eight runs. He also drove in six runs.
