The Prep Baseball Virginia/DC staff makes their way across the Commonwealth and DC throughout the spring to assist high school players in gathering evaluations, including video and some data, that allow our staff to assist in the potential recruitment of student-athletes.

With the staggering start of private and public schools, we have a deeper collection of notes and video on players in this edition of the Ground Forces Scout Blog.

Christiansburg

Ethan Wayman RHP / 3B / Christiansburg High, VA / 2027

Got the start on the mound and went 5 strong innings, only allowing one earned run and securing nine strikeouts. Worked with intent at a fast pace. The fastball was 87-88 early on and settled in at 86-87, holding velocity through the fifth. He showed a changeup with a ton of dive at 81-83. The slider really stood out with high spin and was a go-to finisher in the outing, picking up a handful of the strikeouts at 77-79.

Justice

Randol Lachapel SS / 3B / justice, VA / 2026

Though the box score didn’t reflect it, Lachapel showed strong flashes on Friday night. At the plate, Lachapel worked quality at-bats and hit multiple balls hard to the pull side. In the field, Lachapel was comfortable at shortstop, moving well in all directions and fielding with a sure glove. Lachapel is an athletic uncommitted senior listed at 6’2”, 195-lbs.

Loudoun County

Chris Chinn 2B / RHP / Loudoun County High, VA / 2027

A lankier athletic frame with room to add strength. Showed a gap-to-gap approach at the plate and has extra-base power in the gaps. Has some speed, and it showed on his triple in the game when he lined the right-center gap and then turned on the jets.

Philip Lau RHP / Loudoun County High, VA / 2027

Some strength in the frame. Extreme crossfire delivery creates a tough angle against RHH. Drop and drive delivery, short arm action from a three-quarters slot. Fastball was 81-84, touching 86 once, the pitch gets some cut to it on top of the extreme angle that he creates. Slider had very good arm speed and a late hard 10/4 break at 76.

Loudoun Valley

Eli Acosta 2B / SS / Loudoun Valley High, VA / 2026

Lanky frame, room to add strength. At the plate, a line drive hitter who uses the whole field with some extra base power. On the mound, a higher three-quarters arm slot with a shorter arm action. The fastball was 80-82. Strike thrower who attacks the corners and bottom of the zone.

Landon Bauer SS / 2B / Loudoun Valley High, VA / 2026

Athletic frame with strength present. Just a ballplayer. Started on the mound in the game, not going to be his thing in college, but he competes, and his athleticism works when fielding his position. At the plate, shows good barrel feel and has a quick bat with strength at contact. Going to be able to hit for a high average right away in college.

Mount Vernon

Jacob Torres C / RHP / Mount Vernon High, VA / 2029

The freshman had an impressive performance on both sides of the ball on Friday night. On the mound, Torres struck out seven in a six inning performance. He had a two-pitch mix between his fastball and slider. His fastball, mostly in the high 70s and topping 82, had natural arm side run, and Torres would add extra intent late in counts. The slider was used in any count and kept hitters off balance. Torres works with a quick tempo and a crossbody delivery. At the plate, Torres showed power to the pull-side with a couple hard-hit balls to left field. Torres swings from a wide base with quick hands through the zone. He has a physical 5’10”, 195-lb frame and has been a heavy contributor for Mount Vernon as a freshman.

Salem

Benjamin Farber OF / RHP / Salem High, VA / 2028

Had a good day at the plate, going 2-2 with an RBI double to RF in the fourth inning that would tie the score. Also had the walkoff single in the seventh inning that secured the 6-5 win for the Spartans.

Windsor

Ayden Mills SS / RHP / Windsor High, VA / 2027

Lean, athletic frame. Relaxed batting setup with a fast and level bat path through the zone. Found two loud barrels, one being a triple off of the wall in left field and the other being a double off of the wall in center field. Easy effort in the swing.
