Palo Verde utilized a dominant complete-game shutout and a timely power surge to defeat Coronado 2-0 on Wednesday. In a classic pitchers' duel that remained scoreless through six innings, the Panthers finally broke the deadlock in the final frame to secure the home victory.
The hero of the day was senior Owen Anderson, who delivered the game-winning blow with a two-run home run to left field in the bottom of the seventh. On the mound, sophomore Connor McDonald was masterful, tossing a 7-inning complete-game shutout. McDonald allowed just three hits while striking out eight Coronado batters to earn the win. Coronado was kept in the game by a brilliant start from sophomore Ryder Metz, who went the distance and struck out four, surrendering only the one late mistake.
