Inland Empire Rising Stars ID: Player Analysis

On Sunday, March 29th, the Prep Baseball California team hosted the Inland Empire Rising Stars ID at the Corona High School in Corona, Cal. This was an open event for all rising stars classes (2030-31), and gave our staff an ample look at some of the area's top rising players.
Today, we are continuing our post-event rollout with a look at the scouting reports from the day.
PLAYER ANALYSIS
Michael Acosta, River Heights Intermediate (CA), 2030
Positional Profile: SS/2B
Body: 5-7, 120-pounds.
Hit: RHH. Narrow lower half with slight knee bend. Front foot slightly offset. Hands held at ear level with the back elbow pointed at the plate. Small inward leg lift stride. Hands cast back slightly. Loads heavily in the upper half. Gets into launch position early. Front shoulder opens up early with present bat lag.
Power: 77 mph max exit velocity (70 avg.); 262-foot max batted distance.
Arm: RH. INF - 69 mph. OF - 68 mph. OF: Long, winding back path. Loose release with strong follow-through. INF: Lower 3/4 arm slot. Draws arm back, creating a long windup. Long release. Room to improve arm strength.
Defense: OF: Steady lower-half movements when approaching the ball. Long, efficient crow hop. INF: Quiet feet, with smooth lower half. Trusts the glove while showing efficient transfer.
Athletic Testing: 7.80 runner in the 60-yard dash.
Xavier Alcantar, Corona(CA), 2030
Positional Profile: C/1B
Body: 5-11, 185-pounds.
Hit: RHH. Even, balanced lower half. Upper half stays tight with hands at shoulder level and out in front of body. Back elbow pointed slightly downwards at catcher. Medium leg kick stride. Shifts weight onto back leg during load with hands slightly casted outwards. Lands soft on front foot. Body shifts forward during launch.
Power: 93 mph max exit velocity (85.9 avg.); 328-foot max batted distance.
Arm: RH. C - 71 mph. Low 3/4 arm slot. Quick, easy release. Minimal recoil.
Defense: 2.11-2.23 pop time range; Efficient mover getting into throwing stance. Doesn't rush movements. Firm glove.
Brixton Barraza, Vista Murrieta (CA), 2030
Positional Profile: SS/3B
Body: 5-10, 135-pounds.
Hit: RHH. Wide, balanced lower half. Upper half is tight with hands drawn back at shoulder height. Back elbow pointed down at catcher. Short, one-step stride. Hands cast back during load with noticeable separation between feet in launch position. Quick barrel through zone. Efficient swing plane.
Power: 87 mph max exit velocity (79.7 avg.); 297-foot max batted distance.
Arm: RH. INF - 74 mph. Low 3/4 arm slot. Loose, dart-style release. Momentum carries release forward. Projectable arm strength.
Defense: Sound mover. Doesn't rush movements. Keeps lower half quiet while utilizing upper half after transfer.

Gavin Cruz, Norco (CA), 2030
Positional Profile: C/3B
Body: 5-7, 160-pounds.
Hit: RHH. Wide, balanced lower half, with knees bowed outward. Hands held at ear level. Back elbow pointed at catcher. Leg twist stride. Heavy load into rear leg with hands casted back. Upper half turns inward showing back to pitcher. Aggressive swing with strong hands through zone.
Power: 91 mph max exit velocity (82.4 avg.); 340-foot max batted distance.
Arm: RH. C - 77 mph. High 3/4 arm slot. Quick, loose release. Aggressive thrower.
Defense: 1.98-2.11 pop time range; Firm glove. Quick pop-up to get into throwing stance. Urgent movements behind the dish.

Maxim Dunkel, Palm Desert (CA), 2030
Positional Profile: C/OF
Body: 5-6, 145-pounds.
Hit: RHH. Wide, balanced lower half with knee bend evident. Hands start at shoulder height with back elbow flared straight outwards. Upper half slightly leans over plate. Short, narrow front foot stride. Loads slightly onto back leg with hands casting up and outward. Bat lag is present with an efficient launch angle.
Power: 83 mph max exit velocity (79.6 avg.); 298-foot max batted distance.
Arm: RH. C - 72 mph. 3/4 arm slot. Lofty ball trajectory that shows accuracy. Follows through after the throw.
Defense: 2.01-2.21 pop time range; Firm, sure-handed glove. Gets into throwing position smoothly. Doesn't rush.

Mario Knapp-Schwarzenegger, Loyola (CA), 2031
Positional Profile: C/OF
Body: 5-10, 140-pounds.
Hit: RHH. Balanced, even lower half. Upper half stays tall with hands at shoulder level, protruding outward. Back elbow pointed down at the catcher. Bat held vertical. Front foot sets up facing inward. Toe-tap stride to initiate load into back leg. Long, winding cast in hands during load. Hips fire first in launch position. Hands stay in throughout the swing.
Power: 79 mph max exit velocity (70.5 avg.); 274-foot max batted distance.
Arm: RH. C - 61 mph. OF - 61 mph. OF: Long, progressing arm back path. Full-circle windup.C: High 3/4 arm slot. Short release. One-hop thrower to 2nd.
Defense: 2.61-2.85 pop time range; OF: Tracks ball well. Gets into fielding position at a balanced pace. C: Gets into throwing position with urgency.

Max Moreno, Beaumont (CA), 2030
Positional Profile: OF/2B
Body: 5-6, 145-pounds.
Hit: LHH. Wide, balanced lower half. Upper half stays postured with hands above shoulders and bat resting on rear shoulder. Short, quick one-step stride. Gets into launch position effectively, generating good bat lag through the zone. Short one-hand finish.
Power: 90 mph max exit velocity (80.6 avg.); 314-foot max batted distance.
Arm: RH. OF - 82 mph. High 3/4 arm slot. Progressing arm back path. Quick release with optimal ball trajectory throwing home.
Defense: Smooth, efficient fielder. Approaches ball at a calm pace then triggers a quick, effective crow-hop.

Parker Smith, Norco (CA), 2030
Positional Profile: 2B/C
Body: 5-6, 145-pounds.
Hit: RHH. Wide lower half with weight shifted on rear leg. Knee bend is evident. Hands held just above shoulder height with back elbow flared at the backstop. Small step stride to initiate load into rear leg with slight cast in hands. Stays postured-up in launch position with decent bat lag. Short, narrow barrel path towards ball.
Power: 67 mph max exit velocity (49.6 avg.); 78-foot max batted distance.
Arm: RH. INF - 69 mph. Low 3/4 arm slot. Winding arm back path, keeps arm high in the air. Whip-like release.
Defense: Calm, methodical fielder. Doesn't rush movements. Fundamental approach towards ball.

Positional Profile: C/RHP
Body: 6-2, 215-pounds.
Hit: LHH. Tall, narrow stance, keeping a postured-up approach. Hands held at helmet height with bat angled towards the pitcher. Front foot starts slightly offset. Medium leg lift stride. Loads heavily in upper half/hands. Back leg stays firm. Long extension with front foot in the launch position. Long barrel path.
Power: 102 mph max exit velocity (86.8 avg.); 349-foot max batted distance.
Arm: RH. C - 78 mph. High 3/4 arm slot. Quick, urgent release. Accurate liners to 2nd.
