As the 2026 California high school season came to a close, plenty of standout performances filled scorecards across the state. Throughout the spring, there was no shortage of memorable individual outings in games captured firsthand by our Prep Baseball California staff during the season.
Over the last several days, much has been listed of the top 10 single-game standout performances I've seen across the greater San Diego area during the 2026 spring season, highlighting some of the top individual efforts from around the region. The countdown series is now marching toward the number one spot.
Continuing the countdown with No. 2 is Logan Schmidt after one of the most dominant pitching performances seen all spring during the CIF Southern Section Division 2 Quarterfinals. In front of a packed house at Elsinore High School with several scouts in attendance, the LSU signee delivered a complete-game shutout with 14 strikeouts while showing why he is regarded as one of the top left-handed prep arms in the 2026 class.
Schmidt attacked hitters from the opening inning with a power arsenal headlined by a fastball that worked 93-96 mph throughout the outing. The left-hander established the inner half early against right-handed hitters and leaned heavily on a sharp slider at 78-81 mph that consistently generated uncomfortable swings and chase. While the changeup was used more sparingly in early counts, the entire operation looked under control from start to finish, as Schmidt never appeared rattled despite working around early-inning traffic across a few different frames. Of his 98 total pitches, 71 went for strikes, and the southpaw still had 95 mph available whenever he needed it late in the game.
Ranked No. 2 in California’s 2026 class, Schmidt continues to cement himself as one of the premier LHPs in the country entering the summer. The projected 2026 MLB Draft prospect was also listed No. 60 overall in Prep Baseball’s most recent May MLB Mock Draft, and outings like this further prove why.
