LINCOLN VS GRANT (4.28.26)

This PIL match-up had no shortage of talent as there was college commits on both sides as well as several uncommitted underclassmen to watch this summer. Ultimately, the visiting Cardinals really got the bats going in this one and also got a gritty effort from their senior leader on the bump as they ended up with a 9-1 victory.

GRANT

For the Generals, they went with ‘26 RHP Jinki Tomita (Feather River) on the bump. The experienced senior battled early and managed to keep the Cardinals offense under control for the first 4 frames without his premium stuff. The FB resided 84-86 on this look and topped 87 to pair with his usual 4 pitch arsenal of CB/SL/CH. Did a nice job getting out of some jams early and gave his team as chance as he pitched into the 6th inning. But ultimately the offense just couldn’t get much going on this day.

Grant racked up 5 total hits en route to their 1 lone run on the day which came late in the bottom of the 6th.

‘28 OF Philip Elliston led the team with 2 total hits and finished 2-3 on the day. The lean, wiry sophomore displayed consistent bat to ball skills with a sound approaching. Attacked FBs in advantage counts and put himself in a position to be on time out front with the barrel. Speedy athlete with some physical upside to tap into.

Grant got their additional 3 hits from 1-3 in the line-up. ‘26 OF Elliot Raiton (San Diego Mesa) had their only XBH on the day in the bottom of the 7th as he drove an opposite field 2B to the RF fence. Stayed on the FB well and put a quality swing on it.

Uncommitted juniors Calvin Sorensen and Grant Snidow added the other 2 hits with each contributing a single in the contest. The athletic duo handle the middle of the diamond together with Sorensen at 2B and Snidow at SS.

Sorensen has impressed in back to back preseason looks for his potent offensive upside and functional athleticism. He moves really well and can accelerate the barrel in a tight window, producing exit velocities  up to 100 mph in BP with 75+ mph bat speed.

Snidow is one of the more athletic prospects left in the class who has the tools and acumen to stick up the middle. Right away the actions and fluidity stick out in pregame and his sure-handedness carried over in game when it mattered. Offensively he hits with a balanced set up and can fire the hands suddenly once his front foot gets down.

LINCOLN

The Cadinals offense was rolling in this one, especially in the back half of the game. Overall they had 6 starters rack up hits with 11 in total as they pushed across 9 runs.

Leading the charge was ‘28 1B/P Hunter Arana. The extra tall sophomore is a powerful lefty stick with big leverage from his high waisted frame and a heavy barrel that can really impact the ball. After getting the scoring started early with an oppo line drive double, he also added a solo HR in the top of the 6th. He finished the day 4-4, run scored and 3 RBI.

Another uncommitted bat who made a big impact in this one was ‘27 C Reed Eldridge. The athletic backstop went 2-2, HR, 3B, 2 R, 2 RBI, BB. Uses a wider, spread stance in the box with a short forward move and minimal actions in his load. The hands stay near the back shoulder and slot lower as he begins to initiate his turn into the swing. Caught a couple barrels out front and the lift in his swing provided the power on his XBHs.

Additionally, ‘27 SS Grady Wilmot (Portland) was a presence in the box and has really asserted himself as a name to know in the class within the last year. Extra wide frame at 6’4 with more of a high waisted build. Showed clean, methodical movements at SS in pre-game with a softer glove hand and an easy transition from glove into the throw. More of a body control athlete who can get the most out of his frame and has the chance to really add more overall strength as he matures. After a couple near misses in his early ABs, he finished 2-4 with a 2B, R, RBI. Smooth operation at the plate with a quick barrel and some natural feel for hit. The contact seems to come easily for him and his pitch selection was sharp throughout. Controls the zone. Very hitterish tendencies.

On the mound, Lincoln got a strong effort from uncommitted ‘26 Graeme Warner-McGee. He totaled 5 innings allowing 2 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 7 K. The FB worked 83-86, topping 87 and he also mixed in his sharp SL at 74-76 with an occasional CH 77-78. The command was a bit scattered in this one but he kept putting up zeroes and when he needed to get out of jams, he stepped up to the challenge. Had some big strikeouts to end the inning and leave runners stranded on base. Certainly was more of a ‘bend don’t break’ effort but that’s what it takes to win without your ‘A’ stuff. The moxie and experience showed up when he needed it.

After GWM, the Cardinals got 2 crisp innings from ‘26 Harrison Mayhew to finish things off.
