2026 Prep Baseball Iowa Preseason ID - Central Iowa: Event Preview

Waukee, Iowa - On Sunday, February, 15th, Prep Baseball Iowa travels to Sportsplex West in Waukee to host the IA Preseason ID-Central Iowa. The events will feature over 35 prospects from the class of 2026 through 2029. This collection of players will include plenty of fresh faces as well as returning faces.

Our staff strategically hosts Preseason ID events throughout the state in search of players who have taken advantage of the offseason, identifying new prospects to add to our follow lists or players our staff is already familiar with who are on the rise.

EVENT HISTORY

A year ago, the Preseason ID – Central Iowa featured 37 prospects, and several of them quickly set themselves apart.

Caylor Jones (Pleasantville, 2026, Southeastern CC) impressed on the mound with clean arm action and strong athleticism. He ran his fastball up to 84 mph, pairing it with a sharp 76 mph slider and a 79 mph changeup that showed impressive depth. Following his performance, Jones earned an invite to the Iowa State Games in August, where he continued to stand out, before committing to Southeastern Community College in September.

Matthew Tesdahl (Webster City, 2026, Des Moines Area CC) opened the showcase with a 7.19 60-yard dash, setting the tone for a strong overall performance. The shortstop later fired an impressive 86 mph throw across the diamond and took aggressive, confident swings at the plate, producing a max exit velocity of 85.7 mph. He went on to commit to Des Moines Area Community College in September.

Thomas Mikkelsen (Creston, 2027, Uncommitted) turned in a 7.37 60-yard dash before showcasing above-average pop at the plate, posting a 93 mph max exit velocity. Behind the dish, he displayed arm strength with throws up to 77 mph to second base and a best pop time of 2.02. Mikkelsen is currently ranked No. 92 overall in the state and No. 15 among catchers in Iowa’s 2027 class.
