Reno Preseason ID - Quick Hits | Underclassmen

Reno, NV – The Reno Preseason ID, one of the premier events on the Prep Baseball Nevada calendar, was held on Sunday, February 8 at Reno High School. The one-day showcase brought together a talented group of prospects from the 2026–2030 classes, each looking to establish an early evaluation heading into the spring season.

Participants took part in a pro-style workout that included batting practice tracked by TrackMan and Blast Motion, 60-yard dash testing powered by VALD Performance, and a full defensive evaluation. Pitchers threw bullpens tracked by TrackMan, allowing our staff to capture detailed metrics including pitch velocity, spin rate, and horizontal and vertical movement.

We begin our Post Event Coverage of the Reno Preseason ID with the Quick Hits, highlgihting the players who made an immediate impression on the Prep Baseball Staff.

Jacob Bailey 3B / RHP / Spanish Springs, NV / 2028

In his first event out with us, the Spanish Springs sophomore got his day started with a line drive filled BP Session that saw him register a 93.5 mph TrackMan Exit Velocity. Defensively, he flashed projectable actions that we expect to only continue trending over the next few years. Where he caught the Prep Baseball Staff attention was on the mound, where he put up one of the event’s Top Fastball Velocities at 86.7 mph. The secondary mix included a curveball and a changeup, showing more present feel for the curveball and flashes of feel for his changeup. Bailey is a player we will be keeping an eye on this Spring as he seems to just be scratching the surface of what’s to come.

Daniel Dicante SS / 2B / Reno High School, NV / 2028

One of the biggest winners of the Reno Preseason ID was Reno High Sophomore, Daniel Dicante. The switch-hitting middle infielder showed off his ability from both sides of the plate, with line drive filled rounds that flashes his pull side power potential, especially from the left side. Defensively, he his advanced actions were on full display with easy flow through the ball along with present lateral range and feel for both the forehand and backhand plays with the help of his 6.89 VALD 60 Time. This is a name you’ll want to put on your list heading into an exciting 2026.

Makai Johnson 1B / LHP / Douglas, NV / 2028

The physical, 6’3/210.5 two-way has the intriguing attributes that continue to trend each time out with us and we expect even more to come from him in the future as he continues to dial in his game. His 94.4 mph TrackMan Exit Velocity along with new bests in Average TrackMan Exit Velocity 88.3 mph and 369 foot Max Distance, show that his ability to consistently find the barrel with authority is already trending and their is still much more to come.

Cage Kordonowy 3B / SS / Reno High School, NV / 2029

A player that came into the Reno Preseason ID with excitement around his name, Cage Kordonowy did not disappoint. The present hit tool was on full display with loud, consistent barrels to the big part of the yard, registering one of six 100+ mph Max TrackMan Exit Velocities at the event at 100.3 mph. At 5’9, 194.2, he already possesses the physicality that will allow him to excel at the high school level as freshman with much more expected to come over the next few years.

Jakob Marinaccio 3B / C / Bishop Manogue, NV / 2029

Another winner at the Reno Preseason ID was freshman Bishop Manogue product, Jakob Marinaccio. The backstop had one of the loudest Batting Practice Sessions of the event, flashing his power potential that saw him put up a new personal best 95.2 mph TrackMan Exit Velocity, along with his 84.6 mph Average Exit Velocity. Defensively, his Pop Time will continue to trend and parallel his progression in his footspeed, but his receiving and present ability to handle velocity makes him a catcher that we will be keeping tabs on this Spring.

Jackson Pahang C / SS / Spanish Springs, NV / 2029

The Spanish Spring product might not be a player that is lighting up the metrics (yet) on stat sheet, but athletic actions in his game are ones to keep an eye on as he continues to fill out his lean, youthful frame that we anticipate to only continue getting physically stronger.

Matthew Slamowitz OF / RHP / Galena, NV / 2028

An under the radar player that impressed during his first time out with us, Slamowitz put together one of the more impressive Batting Practice Sessions of the day with is 96.5 mph, ranking him at #3 and his 364 ft. Max Distance ranking him in the #1 spot amongst the Underclassman in attendance. This is another player that came in as a relative unknown by the Prep Baseball Staff, and left the event as a player we will have on our radar this coming High School season.

Noah Young SS / OF / Bishop Manogue, NV / 2028

The Super Sophomore Games standout has put in obvious work on his physicality over the winter break, adding 8+ pounds to his now 6’1 frame, and we saw that physical growth translate into multiple new personal bests. His advanced actions through the ball as well as feel for both the forehand and backhand plays make him a middle infielder to follow. And those defensive actions, paired with an one of the day's top offensive performances, highlighted by his 96.6 mph Max TrackMan Exit Velocity and 91.7 mph Average Exit Velocity, helps assert Young as a player that we expect to only continue seeing his game trend over the next few years as he seems to just now be scratching the surface of what’s to come.
