Watkinsville, GA - The Athens Rising Stars ID took place on Februrary 8th. As staff traveled down to The Yard at Wire Park in Watkinsville to see the up and coming talent from the 2030-2032 classes in the area. Athens Rising Stars ID-Quick Hits

Will Burns, C, 2030, Harlem
It was nothing but consistent contact for the rising Harlem backstop in a gap-to-gap approach with some pull-side present. Utilizes a toe-tap load to stay balanced through impact as he works from an on-plane path with good hands in-zone.

Colt Clark, C/3B, 2030, North Oconee
The projection is easy to see for Clark with wiry-strength evident in a long-limbed 5-foot-10 frame. The RHH exudes excellent body control as he stays balanced through the zone with good separation and barrel length alike. Finished the round with a max (84.1) exit velocity.

Kendall Williams Jr., SS/RHP, 2030, Wesleyan
Quick twitch athleticism defines Williams’ game as he displayed high-speed hands through the zone. At 5-foot-9.5, Williams has plenty of time to grow into a great athlete. With this upside, he is highly projectable as an all-around hitter with quality fielding mechanics in the MIF. Two-way potential was shown as a three-pitch mix of FB, SL and CB worked effectively. The FB has natural arm side run and the SL flashed very tight spin. As he enters Wesleyan’s HS system, Williams is set to develop quickly.

Jax Lord, 1B/RHP, 2030, North Oconee
A strong full body swing was present for Jax Lord, utilizing a strong bottom half. Lord has good bat control through the zone while staying compact and quick to the ball. Moves well in the field alongside accurate throws across the diamond. Natural pop and hitting ability with more to come as he matures. Being a part of the North Oconee program, future development and competition are available to Lord in his upcoming HS years.

Sawyer Campbell, SS/RHP, 2031, North Oconee
Two-way prowess was visible in Campbell’s game. At the dish, loud contact and barrels were found all throughout the round. Quick hands and fast bat speed produced consistent high exit velocities. In the infield, he showed off the strongest arm of the day at 74mph coupled with smooth mechanics working each direction. Campbell’s three-pitch mix was impressive and will easily deceive batters. The FB sat 84-85 and touched 86 with 2000+ avg rpm while the CH was a great compliment at 74-77 (T79) while killing spin. The curve is his best pitch at 68-71 and touching 2734 rpm. Sawyer has a prime opportunity to grow his game further as he will compete in a highly skilled HS area.

Austin Peterson, 1B/OF, 2030, North Oconee
Peterson had a strong showing at the Yard. Loud contact at the dish with ability to hit to all fields with power. Really gets into the lower half and has good bat control through the zone. Natural pop and the “hit” tool is on the way. Good footwork and ability to get better in the field. Uppercut swing, trying to lift the ball in the air and hit for power. Should be a name to keep an eye on as he develops.

Maddox Reeder, 1B/RHP, 2030, North Oconee
Reeder is a very versatile defender who can almost play anywhere on the diamond, great feel for the zone and ability to hit for contact. Very under control in the box with simple actions, bat to ball skills are there. The body has room to fill out as he gets stronger and matures. The projection is there for Reeder, as he looks to help out North Oconee in the future.
