2026 Wichita Preseason ID: Quick Hits

Eliott Wilk
Central Region Operations Director

On Sunday, February 1st, the Prep Baseball Kansas staff traveled to Wichita Sports Forum Wichita, KS to host the annual Wichita Preseason ID. This event was open for all 2026-2029 class members and featured 60+ players from the area.

All of our events offer players the opportunity to update their recruiting resume and showcase their talents in front of our staff. We also use these events as identifiers for future invite-only events, like the Preseason All-State, our summer Top Prospect Games, and the prestigious Prep Baseball Future Games that takes place at the tail end of the summer. To see what our events offer, click HERE.

Shortly after the event, our staff compiled several of the day’s stat leaders inside our traditional ‘Stat Story’, which you can find HERE

Today, after combing through our notes from the day, we’ve compiled some of the event’s standouts below within these ‘Quick Hits’.

QUICK HITS

+ Sunday’s trip to Wichita gave our staff another look at Louisville commit C/RHP Parker Clubb (Mulvane, 2026), a well-known two-way prospect in the region who stood out in a major way with the bat in this look. The 6-foot-1, 192-pound backstop put on a show in BP, showing elite bat speed and exit velocities, repeatedly hammering balls to the pull side throughout his round. Clubb peaked at 108.9 mph, averaged 96 mph, produced four balls north of 100 mph, and reached a max distance of 421 feet. Not to be overlooked, he also ran a 6.90 60, posted an 82 mph mark from the chute and posted 1.83–1.94 pop times to pair. A senior on a loaded Mulvane squad this spring, Clubb is beginning to generate legitimate MLB Draft buzz.

+ Another backstop that popped in Sunday’s look was C Jadan Hunter (Bishop Carroll, 2027). The 6-foot, 152-pound athlete stood out defensively, showcasing strong, reliable actions behind the plate with a quick, accurate arm from the chute, producing 1.94–2.09 pop times and a 77 mph peak velocity. At the plate, Hunter flashed feel for the barrel, peaking at a 93 mph exit velocity, with more power still to come as he continues to add strength and polish his game.

+ One of the biggest winners of the day was INF/RHP Jonah Mull (Bishop Carroll, 2027), who put together an all-around impressive performance while showing significant jumps in his metrics across the board. Mull was on the barrel throughout his BP round, swinging a long-levered, inside-out right-handed stroke that worked back through the middle of the field, peaking at 95.5 mph exit velocity. Defensively, Mull showed athleticism and sure-handed actions at shortstop, flashing the day’s top infield velocity at 93 mph. To wrap up his day, he took the mound and used his lean 6-foot-2, 185-pound frame to run his fastball into the high-80s (T89 mph) with 2,700+ RPM spin. Off that, he landed a high-spin slider (75–77 mph, 2,600+ RPM) and turned over a 75–77 mph changeup with over 20 inches of arm-side fade at times. A name for coaches to keep tabs on, the Bishop Carroll product looks primed for a breakout spring season.

Jonah Mull

+ OF/RHP Hayden Hocker (Andover Central, 2027) is an athletic junior to keep an eye on from Sunday’s look. Hocker continues to trend upward, showing noticeable strength gains since our last viewing, and it showed in his metrics. He jumped over six mph in exit velocity, barreling his best ball at 95.5 mph while averaging 85.9 mph, and also posted an 88 mph peak from the outfield on his firmest throw. This marked our first look at Hocker on the mound, where he ran his fastball up to 86 mph and filled up the zone with a curveball/changeup/splitter mix. With his continued physical development, Hocker is a two-way prospect to keep an eye on this spring.

+ LHP KJ McGill (Bishop Carroll, 2027) reaffirmed his status as a must-see arm this spring during Sunday’s trip to Wichita. Lean and highly projectable at 6-foot-2, 156 pounds with plenty of room still to add on, McGill looks poised to anchor a Bishop Carroll staff that projects as one of the top groups in the Wichita area. The left-hander showed feel for his entire arsenal, filling up the zone with a well-rounded mix that included two distinct breaking balls and a splitter with swing-and-miss potential. His fastball played at 84–87 mph (T88 mph), featuring an average of -16.4 inches of arm-side run that should cause fits for hitters on both sides of the plate. There is no denying the lefty's upside and with his ease of operation, don’t be surprised if the velocity ticks up again this spring.

KJ McGill

+ RHP Elijah Keiter (Andover Central, 2026) is an uncommitted senior to note following his Prep Baseball debut, where he showcased advanced feel for a complete four-pitch mix throughout his bullpen. The 5-foot-11, 178-pound right-hander filled up the zone with his fastball up to 85.3 mph, operating with ease and suggesting more velocity still in the tank, while also commanding an 82–84 mph sinker. Complementing his fastball, Keiter spun a 71–72 mph curveball with heavy downer shape that currently profiles as his go-to out pitch, and he rounded out the arsenal by turning over a 78–80 mph changeup

+ RHP/OF Ivan Reid (Life Prep Academy, 2026) was an impressive two-way prospect from Sunday’s look. A well-rounded athlete, Reid stood out across the board - running a 6.87 60, with a 92 mph arm from the outfield, and a 93 mph exit velocity at the plate. However, it was on the mound where the right-hander shined brightest. His arm strength translated seamlessly, as he ran his fastball up to 88 mph, sitting 85–87 mph, flashing ride through the top of the zone. Off that, he spun a 73–76 mph curveball with downer spin that approached 2,500 RPM, giving it the potential to become a true out pitch. He also effectively killed spin on a 77–78 mph splitter to round out an intriguing arsenal and making him a name to keep an eye on this spring.

Ivan Reid

+ LHP/OF Jalen Lawhead (Eisenhower, 2028) is an intriguing two-way athlete who continues to trend upward as he refines his game and adds strength. Standing at a strong, physical 6-foot-1, 186 pounds, Lawhead continues to tap into his power at the plate, posting a 98.9 mph peak exit velocity, a mark that has steadily climbed with each look. A switch hitter, Lawhead also saw 90+ mph exit velocities from both sides of the plate. Defensively, he showed a strong, 85 mph arm from the outfield and then carried that arm strength over to the mound where he ran his fastball up to 84 mph with a curveball, changeup, splitter mix to pair.

+ A top-50 prospect in the Kansas sophomore class, INF Brody McDonald (Maize, 2028) has continued to add strength to his frame this offseason, putting together one of the loudest rounds of BP and producing one of the top exit velocities on the day. The 6-foot, 191-pound right-handed power bat consistently looked to elevate the baseball to the pull side throughout his round, peaking at 101 mph on his best barrel. McDonald also showed a strong arm and flashed lateral quickness at third base defensivley.

Brody McDonald

+ Another two-way standout from Life Prep Academy, RHP/1B Abdel Yarala (2027), was just as impressive on the mound as he was at the plate in this look. As physical as they come at 6-foot-3, 215 pounds, Yarala used his hulking frame to generate effortless power, barreling his best ball at 95.4 mph and averaging 85 mph per batted ball during BP. He carried that same strength to the mound, running his fastball up to 87 mph, sitting comfortably between 85-86 mph, while showing feel for a 2,400+ RPM, 75-76 mph slider and a 78-79 mph changeup to round out his arsenal.

+ C Fermin Broce (Life Prep Academy, 2026) is a reliable, uncommitted senior backstop who impressed with the bat during Sunday’s trip to Wichita, flashing real damage potential at the plate. Broce swung with intent to elevate throughout his round, barreling his best ball 323 feet at 100.1 mph, producing one of the louder offensive showings of the day.

+ Fellow teammate, INF Joshua Severino (Life Prep Academy, 2026) produced effortless power and bat speed at the plate throughout his round, posting a 97.8 mph peak exit velocity. As he continues to polish his swing and add explosiveness, Severino should only see his power numbers continue to climb.

+ Another Bishop Carroll name to keep an eye on this spring, 1B/OF Aedyn Acosta (2027) is a physical, 6-foot, 197-pound bat with real impact potential at the plate. The uncommitted junior swings a balanced, right-handed bat that gets on plane early and stays through the zone, allowing for a high level of adjustability. In this look, Acosta put together one of the louder rounds of BP on the day, posting a 99.1 mph peak exit velocity and an 88.5 mph average, while also flashing an 87 mph arm from the outfield.

Aedyn Acosta

+ OF Carter Smith (Wichita Heights, 2027) is a twitchy-strong, athletic, 5-foot-7, 148-pound prospect who stood out in this look. The right-handed hitter showed sneaky pop for his size, barreling his best ball at 96.1 mph, while his 341 foot max distance and 280 foot average distance both ranked near the top of the event leaderboards. Smith showed an innate feel for the barrel from a flat, adjustable swing that allowed him to consistently find the sweet spot. He also reached 81 mph from the outfield, rounding out an impressive all-around showing.

+ A 6-foot-3, 185-pound athlete, OF Caedon Defoor (Rose Hill, 2027) put together a strong all-around performance in this look, posting career bests across nearly every metric. With added strength and size, Defoor saw an 8 mph jump in exit velocity, peaking at 95.1 mph, while generating high-level bat speed (T80.3 mph) from a quick left-handed swing. He also added five mph to his outfield velocity (T82 mph) and shaved nearly half a second off his 60-yard dash (7.12). Defoor looks ready for a potential breakout spring.
