TEAM OUTLOOK

The Mira Costa Mustangs enter 2026 riding the momentum of a CIF Southern Section Division 1 Playoff appearance and a strong 28–3 overall season, and head coach Andy Diver has another high-end group built around pitching and athleticism. The Mustangs return their Number 1 and 2 arms from last year’s rotation, along with a bullpen full of capable, high-upside pieces. Despite just three returning starters, Mira Costa’s young core is loaded with athletic baseball players who can impact the game in multiple ways, setting the stage for another strong spring.

Behind the plate, C Kellan Finn (2026) provides a steady defensive presence, while INF/UTIL Miko Hodzic (2026) adds versatility around the diamond. OF Isaac Lulich (2027) headlines the next wave of position talent, and a promising underclass pitching group featuring RHP Kekoa Delatori (2028), RHP/OF Caden Ceman (2028), RHP/3B Connor Collins (2028), and RHP/INF Grayson Thomas (2028) gives the staff quality depth moving forward. LHP/OF Matthew Vallejo (2029) is another athletic piece coming up through the system. With three pitchers back who already have varsity experience, Mira Costa expects to continue leaning on its arms while the younger lineup pieces grow into expanded roles.

The Mustangs also bring back a strong, committed senior class, led by RHP Garrett Jacobs (2026), a UCLA commit. OF Ace Tarango (2026) is headed to Navy, 1B/OF Joaquin Scholer (2026) will take his left-handed bat to Santa Clara University, and RHP Mason Feldman (2026) is bound for Beloit College. With elite pitching at the top, athleticism throughout the roster, and proven winners leading the way, Mira Costa heads into 2026 looking every bit like a team capable of sustaining its championship-level standard.

Quote from the Coach

“This year's club is relatively young in terms of Varsity experience. We return only three starters who played in 31 games last season. This team will pride itself on good pitching, playing solid defense, and team offense. I do like the depth that this lineup will bring to the yard each day. We will compete and play hard.”
