The 14th annual Future Games took place on July 22-27 at LakePoint in Emerson, Georgia. Top uncommitted prospects in the classes of 2026 and 2027 participated in one of the most popular events each year.
For the first time ever, the state of California brought two teams: Team NorCal and Team SoCal.
We caught up with some of the state's standout performers to hear about their highlights on the weekend, their overall experience at LakePoint, and what their recruitment process has looked like since the August 1st deadline.
Owen Digenan, 2027, RHP/3B, Poway HS
In his sophomore campaign for Poway, Digenan fanned 39 batters across 44 innings pitched. At the plate, Digenan showed potential, tallying 11 knocks on the year.
Prep Baseball CA: Walk us through your performance at Future Games. How do you think you did, and what were some highlights?
Digenan: "It was a short weekend overall. I came out a little slow, but was able to pick it up as the innings went on. Being surrounded by guys who are all on the same level really pushes you. Everyone there has a future in baseball, and everyone shares the same dream. You could feel that different mentality right away."
Prep Baseball CA: What was it like being part of Team SoCal?
Digenan: "It was a huge step up. The level of play was different from what you’re normally around. Every single kid there is legit. There’s no break in the lineup. You’re not pitching to anyone you can relax against — everyone can play. It made it really fun and competitive."
Prep Baseball CA: What was it like seeing all the college coaches and scouts for the first time at LakePoint?
Digenan: "It was eye-opening. They were everywhere — the airport, restaurants, the hotel, the fields. You’d look around and just see coaches and scouts everywhere. It was kind of crazy, honestly. It makes you realize how big the event really is."
Prep Baseball CA: What advice would you give to a player attending Future Games next summer?
Digenan: "Stay true to your abilities. When you see all the scouts there, it’s easy to get amped up and start moving too fast. Just keep your normal pace. Slow the game down. That’s something I had to work through myself."
Prep Baseball CA: When the August 1st deadline hit, what was the recruitment process like for you? How did Future Games impact that?
Digenan: "It was awesome. I was already talking to some schools, but I don’t think they were fully ready to jump in yet. After Future Games, it changed. I had 12 colleges call me on August 1, and every single one mentioned watching me at Future Games. They talked about seeing me compete against that level of talent and how I performed there. That exposure definitely made a big difference."
On September 29th, Digenan took to social media to announce his verbal commitment to Cal State Fullerton.
Prep Baseball CA: You ultimately chose Cal State Fullerton. What made that the right fit?
Digenan: "It felt like home right away. When I went on my visit and met the coaches and players, it was exactly what I was looking for. It’s a real team environment. Everybody greeted me, everyone was welcoming, and it just felt like they stick with their guys and ride with them. The coaches are experienced, and the culture was exactly what I wanted. From the moment I walked into the dugout, it just felt right."
Prep Baseball CA: You also attended the State Games at the end of July. What was that experience like?
Digenan: "That was really cool too. It was more local guys — a lot of players I might see in high school — but still high-level baseball. It was great getting to compete against more quality arms and connect with players from around my area. Just being around good players and seeing how they handle themselves was valuable."
Digenan, the 25th ranked right-handed pitcher in the state in the class of 2027, hopes to continue to be a strong presence on the diamond for Poway and continue his journey at the collegiate level as a Titan.
