On January 11th, the Prep Baseball California team hosted the Los Angeles Preseason ID at Buena High School in Ventura, Cal. This was an open event for high school classes (2026-2030), and gave our staff an ample look at the area’s top prospects.

INFIELDER ANALYSIS
JT Armstrong, Loyola (CA), 2027
Positional Profile: 3B/OF Developing player with a physical presence potential for power at the plate.
Body: 6-1.4, 194-pounds. Physical, lean build with more potential to fill out.
Hit: RHH. Shoulder-width stance with heavy prep-load into the back leg and hip. Barrel stays flat throughout the load and wraps around the head. Utilizes a large, early leg kick. Compact, level swing that works well for inside pitches. Consistent contact and barrels on pitches inside. 56.8 mph bat speed with 3g of rotational acceleration.
Power: 92 mph max exit velocity (85.1 avg.); 343-foot max batted distance.
Arm: RH. INF - 78 mph. Short arm circle what works in a pushing motion to a 3/4 slot. Minimal backward arm extension.
Defense: Can be stiff but utilizes athletic hands to make plays. Utilizes and single hand fielding mechanic.

Liam Barkwill, Simi Valley High (CA), 2027
Positional Profile: 3B/SS Versatile MIF profile with smooth mechanics and contact approach at the plate.
Body: 5-10.7, 169-pounds. Lean, athletic frame with room for strength and to fill out.
Hit: RHH. Squatted stance with upright upper half. Hands stay compact to the body and quiet as short leg lift initiates the load. Utilizes quick rotations and a direct, downward bat path. Maintains body posture and lean throughout the swing. Looks for balls to get deep for liners up the middle.
Power: 92 mph max exit velocity (86.5 avg.); 332-foot max batted distance.
Arm: RH. INF - 75 mph. Quick and compact arm motion that finishes from a traditional 3/4 slot. Quick releases and whippy arm motion.
Defense: Uses footwork to produce friendly hops. Performs a consistent gather and releases the ball quickly. Fields with momentum carrying towards 1B.

Jayden Barraza, Harvard-Westlake (CA), 2028
Positional Profile: SS/RHP Southpaw OF/1B with contact, gap-to-gap approach at the plate and power potential down the road.
Body: 5-7.2, 146-pounds. Wiry, athletic frame with room for strength and mass.
Hit: RHH. Balanced, equal stance. Incorporates forward hinge and bat tilt as short leg kick initiates the load. Bat movement establishes timing and barrel whip through the zone. Shows present hand speed and depth in the zone. Hands work in sync with easy hip and body rotation for easy contact and power. 60 mph bat speed with 11g of rotational acceleration.

Leo Barrial, Chaminade College Preparatory (CA), 2028
Positional Profile: 2B/SS Developing INF with defensive upside.
Body: 5-7.4, 170-pounds. Compact frame with room to add strength
Hit: RHH. Squatted stance with forward hip hinge. Loads slowly onto the back leg and into a forward glide. Quick and compact bat path that relies on twitchy hands. Looks for ball to get deep for the compact swing to work. 66.7 mph bat speed with 5g of rotational acceleration.

Arm: RH. INF - 83 mph. Short arm circle that fires from the ear in a side arm slot. Consistent and repeatable motion.

Gavin Berigan, Thousand Oaks High (CA), 2027
Positional Profile: SS/2B Athletic MIF with clean fielding mechanics and throwing motion.
Body: 5-10.3, 155-pounds. Tall, wiry frame with athletic proportions.
Hit: RHH. Shoulder-width stance that is pre-loaded onto the back leg. Utilizes a short leg lift in sequence with forward bat lean and bat wrap. Utilizes a direct, downhill bat path with a high finish that stays on top of the ball. Looks for pitches low in the zone to drop the barrel to. 67.5 mph bat speed with 9g of rotational acceleration.

David Burkholder, San Marcos Senior High (CA), 2027
Positional Profile: LHP/1B Two-way player with an interesting 4-pitch mix and defensive upside at 1B.
Body: 5-9.3, 160-pounds. Well-balanced build with proportional frame.
Hit: RHH. Narrow, open and balanced stance with neutral hands. Rocks backward to initiate heavy forward stride. Hands move backwards during stride to create tension. Quick, level swing with minimal extension. Looks for the ball to get deep. 66.7 mph bat speed with 16g of rotational acceleration.
Power: 89 mph max exit velocity (72.3 avg.); 289-foot max batted distance.
Arm: LH. INF - 80 mph. Quick, short arm action that finishes over the top. Ball leaves the hand with noticeable speed.
Defense: Works out of a strong base and works around the baseball. Quick, snappy hands allow for last second adjustments. Utilizes good direction when throwing to bags.
Oliver Dauskurdas, Oaks Christian (CA), 2028
Positional Profile: OF/RHP Versatile athlete that can play INF and OF with high offensive upside and projectability.
Body: 6-2.3, 194-pounds. Tall, athletic frame with physical presence.
Hit: RHH. Tall stance with heavy pre-load onto the back leg. Hands high near the head. Barrel moves from flat to upright during the load. Smooth and fluid swing with space to let the body work in sequence. Barrel gets on plane early and moves up through the zone. Consistent barrels and line drives. 63.3 mph bat speed with 8g of rotational acceleration.

Jacob De Alba, Nordhoff (CA), 2027
Positional Profile: 2B/OF Athletic INF with sound mechanics and athletic footwork.
Body: 5-6.5, 130-pounds. Wiry, athletic frame with room to fill out and gain strength.
Hit: RHH. Tall, narrow stance with hands close to the body. Utilizes a double toe tap for rhythm into a heavy forward stride. Level bat path that gets on plane. Heavy forward lunge through the swing. 60.3 mph bat speed with 11g of rotational acceleration.
Power: 88 mph max exit velocity (80 avg.); 229-foot max batted distance.
Arm: RH. INF - 75 mph. Throws out of a short, pushy arm action that releases from a high 3/4 slot from range and from a side arm slot when comfortable.
Defense: Present range to both sides and comfortable fielding on the run. Steady footwork and clean transitions into the gather.

Colton Dunwoody, Royal (CA), 2028
Positional Profile: RHP/1B Intriguing two-way with defensive upside and barrel consistency at the plate.
Body: 6-0.1, 186-pounds. Athletic, proportional build with present strength.
Hit: RHH. Upright, balanced swing with a short stride and minimal movement throughout. Flat bat path and the barrel gets on plane early. Smooth, efficient turns through contact. 67.6 mph bat speed with 6g of rotational acceleration.
Power: 86 mph max exit velocity (71.8 avg.); 287-foot max batted distance.
Arm: RH. INF - 81 mph. Loose arm that extends back and whips through a 3/4 slot.
Defense: Fluid shortstop-like footwork and works to get around the baseball. Appears comfortable in the position. Presents easy adjustability and glove control.

Cain Ebrahim, Foothill Technology High (CA), 2028
Positional Profile: 2B/RHP Defensively sound and athletic MIF with contact profile at the plate.
Body: 5-8.9, 147-pounds. Proportional, wiry frame with evident athleticism and room to fill out.
Hit: RHH. Balanced, equal stance with rhythmic swaying motion. Flat barrel with high hands. Strong forward move with short leg lift Flat bat path that works inside-out. Compact swing that facilitates singles approach. 57.3 mph bat speed with 11g of rotational acceleration.

Positional Profile: 3B/RHP Athletic INF with keen defensive skills and a simple gap-to-gap approach at the plate.

Hit: RHH. Wide base with no forward stride. Utilizes an inward turn and back hip coil to generate tension and power. Hands stay quiet and close to shoulder. Fluid, compact and repeatable swing. Body: 5-11, 157-pounds. Long levered build with room to fill in.
Hit: RHH. Upright stance with narrow base. Hands work back behind the body with significant hip coil to create tension and power. Barrel gets on plane early and hands whip the bat through the zone. Looks to get hands extended to utilize long arms. 64.2 mph bat speed with 17g of rotational acceleration.

Xavier Horton, Wiseburn DaVinci (CA), 2027
Positional Profile: 3B/1B Developing INF with consistent hard line-drive approach at the plate
Body: 6-0.7, 219-pounds. Strong, physical frame with present athleticism throughout.
Hit: RHH. Shoulder-width, squatted stance. Hands sit outside of the shoulder and work opposite to the forward stride. Long bat path provides coverage through the zone. Simple lower half allows hands to throw the barrel. Produces consistent contact. 65 mph bat speed with 8g of rotational acceleration.

Hit: RHH. Wide, squatted and open stance with heavy pre-load into the back leg and short toe-tap stride. Creates tension with coil, inward shoulder turn, and extended hands past the back shoulder. Positional Profile: SS/RHP Mechanically sound INF with right side approach and power potential at the plate.
Body: 6-1.1, 199-pounds. Tall, physical and lean build with more toom to fill out.
Hit: RHH. Tall, balanced stance with high hands. Subtle rock onto the backside before a short forward stride. Flat, level swing with direction to the right side. Looks for balls deep in the zone to punch to the right side with authority. 70 mph bat speed with 10g of rotational acceleration.

Arm: RH. INF - 90 mph. Quick arm motion out of a short arm circle. Release point is from a low 3/4 slot, but can throw from lower angles as well.

Positional Profile: 2B/SS Sound INF with a contact, middle of the field offensive profile

Hit: RHH. Wide, squatted stance with a short, simple stride. Noticeable bat wrap as load initiates. Generates power with strong rotation and looks to get hands extended. 55.8 mph bat speed with 7g of rotational acceleration.
