TOP PITCHING PROSPECTS
1. Jose Ortega, Calexico High (CA), 2026
Positional Profile: RHP/OF Physical right-hander with strike-throwing ability, usable three-pitch mix, and a strong athlete’s arm.
Body: 6-2.7, 200-pounds. Long, strong frame with broad shoulders and present physicality. Built to generate leverage and power, with room to continue refining athletic movement.
Delivery: Natural look. Maintains balance through the leg lift and moves down the mound under control. Stays tall through release with consistent direction to the plate. Not overly effortful, allowing him to repeat timing.
Arm Action: RH. Compact and clean with a quick arm through release. Slot stays consistent, helping him fill the zone and sequence pitches effectively.
FB: T87, 85-87 mph. Firm offering that comes out easy. Shows natural life through the zone and plays well when he stays on top of it. Comfortable attacking the strike zone and challenging hitters early. Potentially more in there. T2088, 1998 average rpm.
CB: 68-71 mph. Shows clear depth with later break. Comfortable throwing in early counts. T1937, 1869 average rpm.
SPLT: 75-77 mph. Feel for pitch with late drop. Best secondary weapon for inducing weak contact when kept down.
