PREP BASEBALL LOUISIANA POWER 25 RANKINGS (WEEK 1 UPDATE)

The Louisiana high school baseball season kicked off on Monday February 9, 2026 with regular season action beginning under LHSAA regulations. Leading up to opening day, we published our team previews ahead of the 2026 spring season, touching on programs spanning all classifications, counting down through the official Prep Baseball Louisiana Preseason Power 25 Rankings.

Since Opening Day, our scouts have been out and about covering the 2026 season and will be publishing scout blogs and additional in-season content, such as our Power 25 updates, Player of the Week awards, Scout Blogs, Diamond Notes, and more.

The Top 5

 

The Top 5 has undergone some changes after the first week of the high school season, but Sam Houston is still our #1 team, after posting a 4-1 record in Week 1. Senior Charlie Donaldson had a monster week at the plate for the Broncos. The Panola College recruit went 8-for-14 (.571) with 3 HR, 6 RBI, and 7 R.

Barbe went 4-1 last week and stay put at the #2 spot entering Week 2. Sophomore Gavin Sonnier went 2-0 during the first week of play with wins over Westlake and Kelly Catholic (TX).

Catholic BR moves up one spot after sweeping the West Monroe Rebels for a third consecutive season to start the year off 3-0. The Bears received stellar starting pitching performances from senior Mills Richardson, sophomore Reis Wascom, and junior Jason DeCuir Jr.

Northshore also moves up a spot to #4, after going a perfect 5-0 last week. The Panthers picked up big wins over Belle Chasse, Archbishop Hannan, and John Curtis Christian. Junior Derek Weilbaecher was red hot at the plate last week, as he went 8-for-18 (.444) with 3 HR, 2B, 9 RBI, and 3 R. 

Benton moves up five spots this week to round out the Top-5 at the #5 spot. The Tigers went 4-0 last week which included a massive win last Tuesday against Teurlings Catholic.

 

Risers

 + University Lab moves into the Top-10 after a perfect 4-0 week.  The Cubs beat four Class 5A opponents last week with wins over Dutchtown, Destrehan, Denham Springs, and Walker.

+ Hahnville was another team that made a statement in Week 1 with a 4-1 record.  The Tigers picked up key wins against Rummel, Walker, and East Ascension last week. Junior Koa Romero proved why he's the most feared two-way player in the state. The former Future Gamer and LSU commit went 7-for-13 (.538) with 2 HR, 2B, 3B, 8 RBI, and 6 R, and also threw a complete game one-hit shutout with 15 K's against Rummel last Monday.

+ Zachary moves up twelve spots to #13 after Week 1.  The Broncos went 5-0 last week and outscored their opponents 38-14 with big wins over Brother Martin and Vandebilt Catholic.
