2026 CHSAA Team Preview: Summit HS

Caleb Dameron
Prep Baseball Colorado Staff

The Colorado high school baseball season kicks off on March 5th, opening day for regular season action under CHSAA regulations. Leading up to opening day, we’ll be publishing our team previews ahead of the 2026 spring season, touching on programs spanning all state classifications, counting down through the official Prep Baseball Colorado Preseason Power 25 Rankings.

Perennially, we’ve submitted a preseason questionnaire to high school head coaches across the entire state. Their responses have been flooding in and we’re using the detailed insight they’ve provided in our team-by-team preseason analysis.

What Coach Is Saying:

"The centerpieces on both sides of the ball will be ’26 commits Sam Eldredge (Cal Poly) and ’26 Jonathan Gambino (Antelope Valley). Eldredge received 4A Western Slope Conference POY and 1st Team All-State honors after batting .536 with 20 doubles and 4 HRs, while also recording 103 Ks in 55 IP on the mound. Gambino earned 1st Team All-Conference while batting .403 with 10 extra-base hits and 18 stolen bases, as well as posting 41 Ks in 29 IP. These two are supported by a cast of 6 returning starters from last year’s conference championship team. This year’s deep senior class looks to leave their mark on the program by being the only class in program history to earn 3 playoff berths."

2026 SEASON OUTLOOK:

Summit enters the spring as one of the more intriguing programs on the 4A Western Slope, with some seniors at the top that are capable of pushing the Tigers toward a deep postseason run. Experience is a clear strength, and this roster has the makeup to compete when games start to matter most.

As is often the case in Breckenridge, the early portion of the season comes with its own set of challenges. Limited time outdoors and unpredictable mountain weather can make early rhythm difficult to find, and that could play a role as Summit works through the opening weeks of the schedule. That said, being tested early may ultimately harden this group as the season progresses.

The biggest question mark sits on the mound, particularly behind the top two arms in the rotation. That depth will be challenged immediately, as the Tigers open the season with four games against 2025 playoff teams, including reigning 4A champion Golden HS, in the first week alone. How Summit navigates that stretch could shape the narrative of the season.

The schedule lightens down the stretch as the Tigers settle into their limited home slate, but building a strong playoff résumé will likely hinge on securing a few early non-conference wins. If Summit can weather the early tests and stabilize the pitching staff, this is a team with the experience and toughness to be dangerous come postseason time.
