Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Mississippi.
Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons at Pearl’s Trustmark Park, in the State Tournament finals at the end of May, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Mississippi. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews, eventually releasing our Preseason Power 25 rankings that’ll carry us into the opening week of action.
Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state. Each week we will be releasing our Players of the Week and updating the Power 25 rankings.

2026 OUTLOOK
+ Sumrall brings back a battle-tested group after a 25–9 campaign that pushed all the way to the fourth round, and the Bobcats look poised to stay firmly in the mix again in 5A Region 3. Head coach Andy Davis has a roster built on athleticism, versatility, and a strong blend of experience and youth.
The lineup starts with proven production and upside. Braelyn Harrison (2026, Copiah-Lincoln CC) gives Sumrall a steady presence in the outfield, while Braylen Graham (2026) and Tucker Barrett (2026) anchor the corners with physical bats that can do damage in the middle of the order. At shortstop, Drew Davis (2027, Alabama) is the tone-setter, a high-level defender with impact tools who influences the game every time he’s on the field.
Pitching depth again shapes up as a major strength. Davis leads the staff from the right side, with Rowan Atkinson (2027) providing a reliable left-handed option. Maddox McDaniel (2027) adds another experienced arm, while underclassmen Cooper McCoy (2028) and Riggs Russell (2028) give the Bobcats power arms that continue to trend up. That mix allows Sumrall to match up well over the course of a long season.
There’s also plenty of talent pushing from behind. Eli Hicks (2026) offers infield flexibility, Carson Speed (2027) brings athleticism to the outfield, and a strong 2028 class, highlighted by Parker Hawkins, Jace Shultz, Sam Patterson, and the two-way abilities of McCoy and Russell adds depth and long-term intrigue.
With postseason experience throughout the roster and a pitching staff that can hold its own in any series, Sumrall looks well-equipped to make another deep run as the spring unfolds.
