Prep Baseball Kansas City Winter Watchlist

As we roll through the winter, our Kansas City staff has a short list of players we’re especially fired up to see as showcase season heats up ahead of a massive 2026 spring. Follow along as we highlight some of the standout players we’ll be tracking at winter showcases, names we’re excited about now and expect to make serious noise heading into 2026.

Left Handed Pitchers

Ben Goodwin LHP / OF / Shawnee Mission West, KS / 2026

Goodwin is a southpaw we saw compete at a high level this year and one we’re keeping a close eye on as the offseason wraps up. He flat-out knows how to pitch, featuring a fastball we’ve seen up to 85 MPH with a good feel for both his changeup and slider. Both offspeed pitches play well off the fastball and help it get on hitters. Goodwin will be in attendance at the MOKAN Preseason ID this weekend.

Gavin Perez LHP / OF / Shawnee Mission East, KS / 2026

Gavin is a player we’re excited to see and track where he’s taken his game. The last time we saw him, he ran his fastball up to 85.6 MPH, and his 6-foot-1, 170-pound frame leads us to believe there’s more velocity to come for the Building Champions lefty. We will see where he is at on sunday as he will be one of the most watched lefties at the MOKAN Preseason ID.

Carter Nelson LHP / Blue Valley Southwest, KS / 2027

As we’ve followed Nelson throughout the year, our intrigue has continued to grow with each look. He’s a skinny 6-foot-2, 160-pound, over-the-top lefty with a chance for real tilt on the fastball as he continues to add velocity. He threw at the MOKAN Summer ID, where we thought his arm slot created real deception between the heater and changeup. Next up for Nelson is this weekends MOKAN Preseason ID.

Davis Schipper LHP / Olathe South, KS / 2028

Schipper may have the highest ceiling on our list because of his 6-foot-5 build and long levers from the left side. We saw him at the Mac-N-Seitz Scout Day in November and were pleased with how he moves on the mound, which had us dreaming about what he could become over the next three years. As he adds strength and learns to better use and time up his levers, we think there’s a chance for a strong combination of velocity, spin, and deception from his over-the-top delivery. All eyes will be on Davis this weekend at Mac-N-Seitz for the MOKAN Preseason ID.

Evan Tucker LHP / 1B / Lincoln Prep, MO / 2028

Last seen at the Missouri State Games in June, Tucker showcased a three-quarter arm slot and topped out at 81 MPH, a velocity we’re excited to see where it goes this offseason. He’s a solid 200 pounds with a 6-foot-3 frame and is on track to be one of the top lefties in his class. His arm slot allows for quality side-to-side action, including roughly 17 inches of run on his changeup. Tucker take the mound this weekend at the MOKAN Preseason ID.

Kaiden Porta LHP / OF / Olathe Northwest, KS / 2029

Porta is someone we saw a lot this past spring and summer, and he immediately stood out because of his pitchability. On top of that, he has one of the better arms we saw. The 2025 Junior Future Gamer excited us with his ability to spin the ball and the velocity we think he can grow into. We last saw him at the Kansas Fall Games, where he topped out at 77 MPH with 2,200 RPM and made the Kansas Top Ten list for curveball max spin rate regardless of class at 2,656 RPM. We’re excited to see Kaiden throw at the Kansas City Preseason ID next weekend.

Easton Watkins LHP / 1B / Blue Valley Southwest, KS / 2029

Easton is another 2029 we’re excited to track as he heads into a big physical development window. At the Mac-N-Seitz event, he threw a very encouraging bullpen, showcasing a fastball and changeup that both posted solid movement averages. He also features a curveball that we’re excited to see again at the Kansas City Preseason ID.
