On Sunday, February 8th, the Prep Baseball Colorado staff hosted this year's South Denver Preseason ID at HitStreak in Aurora, Colorado. This event featured ~25 prospects from the 2026-2029 classes and allowed our staff an opportunity to get an in-depth look at the players in attendance. Today we'll continue our deep dive into the data collected at this event within this 'Quick Hits' story.

Brady Wright SS / RHP / Regis Jesuit, CO / 2027Rankings StateRank: 79 / POS: 13
Wright continues to trend upward as an actively developing two-way prospect with a strong collection of present tools. He put together an impressive all-around showing at the event, running his fastball up to 88 mph while also posting a 91 mph infield throwing velocity. The bat was equally impactful, highlighted by a 97 mph top exit velocity, a 90 mph average exit velocity, and a max batted ball distance of 350 feet. At 5’9”, 170 pounds, Wright plays with noticeable strength and an advanced feel for the game that allows his tools to play up. With his momentum and versatility, spring 2026 has the makings of a potential breakout season for the uncommitted Regis Jesuit junior.

Rex Johnson OF / LHP / Valor Christian, CO / 2028Johnson quickly emerged as a name to circle in the Colorado 2028 class after an eye-opening performance at this year’s South Denver Preseason ID. The 5’9”, 171-pound sophomore offers a rare and intriguing skill set as both a left-handed pitcher and a switch-hitter, giving evaluators impact from multiple angles. From the mound, the southpaw ran his fastball up to 88 mph and consistently filled the strike zone with a complete mix that included a curveball and changeup. His arm strength also translated defensively, where he recorded a 91 mph outfield throwing velocity. Offensively, Johnson showed a clean, twitchy swing from both sides of the plate, producing over a 90 mph exit velocity from each side and peaking at 94 mph with a 350-foot max batted ball distance. With his versatility, arm strength, and offensive feel, the Valor Christian sophomore is a prospect to follow closely this spring and has the look of a player who could have a massive 2026.

Luke Blasco LHP / Valor Christian, CO / 2027Rankings StateRank: 66 / POS: 6
Blasco continues to trend upward with each look, and his most recent showing further reinforced the projection still left in his profile. The uncommitted junior worked his fastball up to 87.4 mph from the left-side, pairing the velocity with a strong sense of pitchability and the ability to compete in the zone. At 6-foot, 203 pounds, he brings a durable, physical frame that suggests continued velocity gains as he continues to add strength and size. His repeatable delivery is thrown with intent, and he shows feel for a quality three-pitch mix with a fastball, curveball, and changeup that all play together effectively. With his combination of physicality and continued upward trend, Blasco is positioned to log significant innings this spring and stands out as an uncommitted arm worth close attention moving forward.

Carson Medina RHP / 1B / Valor Christian, CO / 2027Rankings StateRank: 69 / POS: 21
Another Valor Christian standout at the event was Carson Medina, a 6’5” right-hander with a frame that’s easy to dream on and significant projection still ahead. We've seen his fastball up to 85 mph with overall feel on the mound, pitching with confidence and composure. Medina’s competitive nature was also on display this summer at the Colorado State Games, and that ability to compete continues to show as his development moves forward. With a tall, high-waisted frame and a solid three-pitch mix of a fastball, curveball, and changeup, the junior’s toolset points to a rising ceiling. As he continues to add strength and refine his delivery, Medina profiles as a high-upside arm whose projection should keep trending in the right direction.

Tyler Johnson 1B / OF / Grand Junction, CO / 2027Rankings StateRank: 86 / POS: 7
Johnson is an impact bat from the Western Slope who brings immediate offensive presence and is a name college programs should get familiar with. At 5’10”, 194 pounds, the uncommitted junior generates real thump from the left side, highlighted by a 102.2 mph top exit velocity and an impressive 94 mph average EV that underline his consistent hard contact. His bat has already translated to in-game production, as he hit .386 with a .978 OPS over 76 plate appearances at the 4A/5A level during the spring 2025 season as a sophomore. Defensively, Johnson adds value with the ability to handle both the outfield and first base. With proven performance, present strength, and positional versatility, he profiles as a high-follow uncommitted hitter moving forward.

Gavin Schimek C / Rock Canyon, CO / 2026Gavin Schimek is a well-rounded catcher who brings an intriguing blend of defensive polish and offensive upside. At 5’10”, 170 pounds, he showed advanced actions behind the plate, highlighted by a 1.91 top pop time and a 78 mph catcher velocity that point to quick hands and an efficient release. Offensively, Schimek flashed impact potential with a 95 mph top exit velocity and a 355-foot max batted ball distance, creating some unique extension through the swing that allows the ball to carry.

Sean Estenson C / OF / Organ Mountain High School, NM / 2027Sean Estenson stands out as a strong defensive catcher with impact potential at the plate. At 5’11”, 180 pounds, he shows polished actions behind the dish, pairing quick footwork with accurate throws that resulted in a 1.82 top pop time and a 79 mph catcher velocity. Offensively, Estenson’s swing is built to lift and drive the baseball, and he backed it up with a 95 mph top exit velocity, and a 352-foot max batted ball distance in this event. With his combination of defensive reliability, arm strength, and developing offensive impact, Estenson profiles as a catcher to keep a close eye on moving forward.

Damarco Medina C / 3B / Mountain Vista, CO / 2027Damarco Medina is yet another projectable catcher who offers upside on both sides of the ball. The junior brings a strong, athletic frame and showed emerging power at the plate, highlighted by a 95 mph top exit velocity and a 355-foot max batted ball distance. Defensively, he recorded a 75 mph catcher throwing velocity, giving him a solid foundation to build on behind the plate. Medina also recorded the fastest 30-yard dash time in this event at 3.87 seconds. With his physicality, developing offensive impact, and room for continued refinement, Medina is a catcher whose projection makes him a name worth following.
