The Colorado high school baseball season kicks off on March 5th, opening day for regular season action under CHSAA regulations. Leading up to opening day, we’ll be publishing our team previews ahead of the 2026 spring season, touching on programs spanning all state classifications, counting down through the official Prep Baseball Colorado Preseason Power 25 Rankings.

Perennially, we’ve submitted a preseason questionnaire to high school head coaches across the entire state. Their responses have been flooding in and we’re using the detailed insight they’ve provided in our team-by-team preseason analysis.

2026 SEASON OUTLOOK:

Coming off a strong 21–9 campaign in 2025, the Red-Tailed Hawks have momentum, but also plenty of transition ahead.

That success came with a cost, as Cheyenne Mountain graduated a talented senior class that included five college commits. Replacing that level of production will be one of the central challenges this spring, and the roster will lean heavily on development and opportunity as new contributors step into expanded roles.

Despite the turnover, there is still upside throughout the roster. Players such as Reickert, Johnson, Chou, and Hoendervoogt provide a foundation to build around, and how quickly that group settles in could shape the trajectory of the season. If coach Swope can keep the program’s recent success rolling, Cheyenne Mountain has the potential to remain competitive even with a younger lineup.

The spring will likely feature several juniors who have been waiting their turn to step into varsity roles, along with a talented freshman class that could push for immediate opportunities. With so much youth and limited experience, early season growth will be critical, but the long-term outlook remains intriguing as the next wave begins to take shape.
