2026 OSSAA Team Preview: Calumet Chieftains

Prep Baseball Oklahoma Staff

The Oklahoma high school baseball season kicks off on Feb. 23 for classes A and B and Mar. 1 for classes 2A-6A, opening day for regular season action under OSSAA regulations. Leading up to opening day, we’ll be publishing our team previews ahead of the 2025 spring season, touching on programs spanning all state classifications, counting down to the official Prep Baseball Oklahoma Preseason Power 25 Rankings.

Perennially, we’ve submitted a preseason questionnaire to high school head coaches across the entire state. Their responses have been flooding in and we’re using the detailed insight they’ve provided in our team-by-team preseason analysis.

Our 2026 preseason coverage continues today.

Key Players Lost:

Coach’s Insight: “Defense and pitching is what we focus on to win. We try to have multiple players that can take the mound and get outs. We also develop our players to be able to play all over the field which helps in protecting arms after pitching. On offense we strive to do what the game asks. If we need to bunt we will but the main goal is to put pressure on the defense. Staying hungry and healthy. We know what it takes to win at a high level so its about moving forward and getting better everyday.” – Cody Thiessen, head coach

Outlook: Coming off a fall state title, Calumet is primed to pick up right where they left off for the 2026 spring. They play a style, in all facets, that travels well despite who they are playing, where they are playing, or the numerous variables in between. A squad that will consistently play high level defense, pressure opposing offenses by attacking the strike zone, and also have high-end talent that you do not often see at the Class B level such as senior Kaleb Thiessen. Another big addition for the spring will be Brendon Voss as he comes back from injury but has shown to be one of the more versatile players in the state and can impact games in a variety of ways. Senior Kingston Arnold rounds out a trio of returning upperclassmen that will lead the Chieftains in 2026. With lofty expectations this spring, expect Calumet to continue playing championship caliber baseball with sound pitching and defense, pressuring opposing teams in the box and on the bases, and a balance of youth and experience will make for an exciting 2026.
