We have some talented players but will need to find the right combinations in the line up as we graduated much of our infield as well as the middle of our line-up.” - Jeremy York, Houston Memorial Head Coach TEAM OUTLOOKComing strong 2025 campaign that saw them finish 29-5 as Regional Semifinalists, the Houston Memorial Mustangs enter the new season as the top-ranked team in the Prep Baseball Texas Preseason Power 30. Led by Head Coach Jeremy York, who is entering his 20th year at the helm with 446 wins at the school, the Mustangs are looking to build upon a successful year where the staff earned 17-6A Coaching Staff of the Year honors. With a proven track record and a loaded roster of Division I talent, Memorial is poised for another deep postseason run in Class 6A. The undeniable strength of this year's squad is an elite pitching staff, arguably one of the deepest in the state. The rotation is anchored by District Pitcher of the Year and University of Texas commit Grant Sperandio (2027), who has shown that he is one of the top pitchers in the state. Joining him is fellow Texas commit Matthew Manis (2026), a left-hander who earned First Team All-District honors and offers a spin-heavy arsenal and a 90+ mph fastball. Rounding out this formidable trio is Oklahoma State commit Cash Scarborough (2026), a Second Team All-District selection who also touches 95 mph and features a slider with plus spin. 2027 LHP Ben Fuqua will also be a big piece on the mound this year. We have already seen him this season & he looks ready to go. 2026 OF/RHP Tanner Drda (Sam Houston State) will also be a factor on the mound, a talented 2-way presence in the loaded lineup. 2027 Wyatt Baskin adds to the loaded staff as well. While the pitching is headline-grabbing, the Mustangs also return key pieces in the field, particularly in the outfield. Air Force commit Jake Earnest (2026) and Sam Houston State commit Tanner Drda (2026) both return as First Team All-District outfielders, providing veteran stability and offensive production. They are joined by returning Third Baseman Issac Richardson (2026), an All-District Honorable Mention selection, who will be crucial in anchoring the corner infield. 2028 UTL Evan Mauritzen looks to be making an impact as a sophomore that can do it all as well. The Mustangs will need to navigate significant turnover, having graduated District MVP Will Van Wie and First Team All-District talents like Andrew Baay (1B) and Jackson Castillo (DH). If these lineup complements the Mustangs' high-octane pitching staff, Houston Memorial is well-positioned to defend their #1 ranking throughout the spring. |

The roster is headlined by a pair of two-way stars who garnered massive accolades last year. Leading the way is LSU commit Luke Esquivel (2028), who is coming off a sensational campaign where he was named District MVP, TSWA Player of the Year, and MaxPreps Freshman of the Year. He is joined by Blinn JC commit Lale Esquivel (2026), the reigning District Offensive MVP who posted a .418 average and served as a shutdown arm with a 0.81 ERA and 4 saves. Grapevine also adds 2026 OF Jorvorskie Lane Jr (Arkansas commit) and 2026 INF Nomar Torres (NW Florida commit). Lane brings some real electricity to the lineup and can patrol the OF at an elite level. Head coach Greg Harvey, owner of more than 540 career wins and two state titles, has built one of the most consistent programs in Class 6A, and last year’s 21-12 club that reached the 6A Area round sets the stage for another competitive spring. With a lineup stacked with upperclassmen, the Hawks again project as one of the more complete teams in the Metroplex. Offensively, this group should be the catalyst. The infield core of SS Alex Cooley (McLennan CC commit), 3B Hunter Bulin (East Texas Baptist commit) and 2B Mick Randle (Texas Wesleyan commit) provides experience and run production, while Houston commit Preston Lewis and Lipscomb commit David Chirinos anchor the catching duties and give Rockwall-Heath strength up the middle. On the mound, Rockwall-Heath returns key right-handers Kolt Flowers and Kyle Bryant (National Park JC commit), forming the backbone of the pitching staff. Their experience, paired with the emergence of talented newcomers Ethan Oldfield, Lucas Large and Henry Kuenstler, should provide quality innings and allow the Hawks to mix and match as the season unfolds. If the pitching staff develops behind an already proven offense, Rockwall-Heath has the pieces to not only defend its standing in a rugged 10-6A district, but to push deeper into the 6A postseason this spring. |

Head coach Ben Sartor’s club finished 21-12 a year ago and returns the bulk of its impact arms, giving the Jaguars a strong foundation as they look to build on last spring. The overall experience and talent on the mound should keep Flower Mound firmly in the postseason conversation. The strength of this team begins with Texas commit Cooper Harris, one of the premier right-handers in the state, alongside a deep and versatile staff. Shane Ferris (Blinn JC commit) and Keith Milam (Amarillo College commit) provide additional right-handed options, while Tyler Cochran, a First Team All-District selection as a pitcher, gives the Jaguars a reliable left-handed presence who can also impact the lineup at first base. Roman Stevens (Tyler JC commit) adds two-way value, further reinforcing a staff that should allow Flower Mound to control games and shorten contests with quality innings throughout a series. Defensively and offensively, the Jaguars bring back key contributors up the middle. With a strong core returning, the Tigers are well-positioned to build on their experience and challenge for the District 10-5A title. The roster is highlighted by a trio of elite underclassmen who have already made significant marks at the varsity level. The defense is anchored by Alabama commit C Drew Cross (2027), who returns as the reigning District 10-5A Defensive Player of the Year. The infield is led by Houston commit INF Brandon Brannon, a 1st Team All-District selection in 2025. Adding to the youth movement is LHP/OF Daxton Price, who enters his sophomore campaign after earning District 10-5A Freshman of the Year honors last season. Complementing the young stars is a strong group of veteran upperclassmen. The pitching staff features Texas State commit LHP Kortland Stovall, who garnered 1st Team All-District accolades in 2025. The outfield is patrolled by Texas A&M Texarkana commit Colby Porter, another 1st Team All-District selection, and returning 2nd Team All-District outfielder Bennett Wall. Mount Pleasant possesses the depth and talent necessary for a successful 2026 campaign. |
