Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association "A" (MIAA)
Calvert Hall Cardinals
2025 Record: 20-10
Following yet another heartbreaking loss in the MIAA “A” championship series in 2025, the train rolls on for the Cardinals of Calvert Hall, as they once again look to reach the mountain top of the MIAA. This year’s roster will have a different spin to it, as one of the deepest 2025 grad classes in the state have all moved on in Peter Bashore, Nathan Rodriguez, Thomas Pilarski, Travis Peitz, Will Haacke, and Kaden Barmer. Now the next phase moves in, and look for this Calvert Hall 2027 class to take the reins and provide some well-needed production.
On the pitching side, Coach Kerr enters the 2026 spring without his “ace”, as junior right-handed pitcher Ryder Sowa (Maryland) will be sidelined due to injury. A key loss, for obvious reasons, don’t let that take anything away from how truly special this pitching staff has the ability to be this spring. A breakout star last spring, junior Grayson Ryan looks to take over the responsibilities at the top of the rotation, with a slew of fellow junior arms right behind him in Hunter Dunst (East Tennessee State) Cole Kantorski, and Brayden Rivera. The senior class will look to add depth as well, as Cannon Dukes, John Ellerman (Allegheny College), Braedan Conly (Lycoming College), and Will Bush (Frostburg State) all look for big senior campaigns throughout this rotation. Plenty of pieces at Coach Kerr’s disposal this spring, and the added experience throughout should bode well for consistent success.
Offensively, this 2027 class is one of the more fun classes to watch across the state, led by Anthony Williams (Duke). Along with Williams, look for Drew Kittelberger, Dalton DePriest, Jake Lindsey, and Ethan Noyes to all have more prominent roles on this year’s roster, and if the Cardinals make a run for the title this spring, look for these juniors to all have breakout years. Seniors Ethan Frank (Clarion), Luke Kreiner (California University of Pennsylvania), Noah Myers (McDaniel), Christian Oliver (McDaniel), and Connor Callihan will also have more prominent roles in 2026.
What pushes them over the top?
- Grayson Ryan adds his name as one of the top 2027 arms in the state
- Hunter Dunst as a shutdown bullpen arm
- Breakout offensive performances by Anthony Williams, Ethan Frank, and Luke Kreiner
- Under-the-radar offensive production from Jake Lindsey, Drew Kittelberger, Ethan Noyes, and Dalton DePriest
- Pitching rotation consistency

John Carroll Patriots
2025 Record: 33-8
John Carroll
2025 saw one of the most prolific and highly entertaining offenses that this state has ever seen, ultimately completing John Carroll’s mission of winning the MIAA “A” Championship. The 2025 season is now in the rear-view, as the Patriots now turn their attention to the 2026 campaign. There’s no doubt that the loss of Will Rhine (Alabama), Dallas Brooks (Central Florida), Casey Carpenter (UNC Wilmington), Drew Jourdan (Frostburg State), and Brooks Mueller (Northwest Florida State), among a slew of others will see John Carroll take a slight step back, however, don’t sleep on this Patriots roster on both sides of the ball.
Led by one of, if not the top arms in the state in senior right-hander Pierce Quinn (Virginia), this Patriots pitching staff has some intriguing pieces to keep eyes on this spring. Look for fellow seniors Dalton Cole and Kiernan Deremeik to be a really nice tandem behind Quinn, and the emergence of junior transfer Cameron Smith on the backend to add some depth. The dark horse for John Carroll this year is Sophomore Ethan Szymanski, an arm that has coach Siler fired up to see this spring.
Offensively, the load is going to be carried heavily by seniors Miguel Leon (Maryland), Joey Coudon (UMBC), Brycen Altland (Concord), and Kiernan Deremeik. Do we think the lineup will produce at the rate that it did a year ago? Of course not, however, there’s some pieces throughout this lineup that can put up some runs in a hurry. Look for seniors Andrew Jenkins (Harford CC), Thomas Dooling (Alvernia) and sophomore standout Max Darby to add some thump as well and provide some balance throughout the lineup.
How can John Carroll repeat?
- Pierce Quinn “Pitcher of the Year” type season
- Miguel Leon “Player of the Year” type season
- Joey Coudon repeats as an offensive juggernaut
- Emergence of new faces in Cameron Smith and Ethan Szymanski

Gilman Greyhounds
2025 Record: 7-23
The Greyhounds continue to replenish talent and the younger classes are getting more and more exciting to watch. A few senior departures to graduation opens up even more opportunities on both sides of the ball, and look for Gilman, as they did a few times last year, surprise some teams this spring.
Offensively, seniors Jute Taylor (UMBC) and Toby Rosenband (Union College) provide the experience and will need to be vocal leaders for the younger players throughout this roster. Following one of the more special freshman campaigns that we have seen in some time, Jack O’Sullivan is back and has a legit chance of being one of the conference's most feared hitters in 2026.
On the bump, a standout sophomore campaign from Henry Warnack sees the southpaw as the go-to arm for this Gilman staff, coupled with a highly intriguing righty in sophomore Carson Dodge, allowing Gilman to enter the 2026 spring with an exciting one-two punch on the bump. Underclassmen will need to add some depth behind them, and look for Gilman to play spoiler this year, as they did in 2025.
How can Gilman be a “dark-horse” in 2026?
- Jack O’Sullivan making a name for himself as one of the top hitters in the state
- Jute Taylor and Toby Rosenband breaking out offensively
- 1-2 punch on the bump battling against the top offenses across the conference

Archbishop Curley Friars
2025 Record: 17-13
Keep an eye on the Friars this spring, as Coach Gaeta enters yet another spring with an exciting roster and high hopes of competing for a MIAA “A” title. A few departures on both sides due to graduation will need to be answered for, however, the revamped rotation and some key pieces offensively has this Archbishop Curley roster shaping up to be a strong one for 2026.
A strong four-headed monster at the top of the rotation in seniors Owen Rossi and Noah Ryan (Christopher Newport), followed by juniors Caleb Chesgreen and Braedon Rolland see Curley as possessing one of the top frontline rotations in the conference. The talent is certainly there, and experience gained over the past year or so should pay dividends when it comes to taking over more responsibility this spring.
Offensively, look for Rossi and Rolland to lead the charge and be table-setters toward the top of the lineup, with some experienced threats in the middle with the likes of seniors Nico Brownlee (Susquehanna), Lucas Dean, Ian Hull (Molloy), Jake Pruitt, and Jonas Ritter. A senior-heavy core should provide some consistent threats throughout this lineup and look for the Friars to be able to put up a plethora of runs throughout this spring.
What allows Archbishop Curley to make a run at a title?
- The pitching rotation needs to be one of the best in the conference
- Middle of the order needs to run produce
- Consistency throughout the lineup
