The high school baseball season is officially underway. This is our favorite time of the year and we can’t wait to cover the state from now until the state championship. Be sure to to be tuned in daily for content on the season.

Everything high school baseball related will be on the GHSA tab on our website. It can be found HERE. This will include the Power 25, Classification Rankings, weekly scout blogs and more.

Today, we are going to introduce a new piece of content called the “Daily Round Up”. Here we will take a look at the games our scouts went to from the previous day and highlight key moments, standout players and our takeaways from the game.

Thursday

Lakeside @ Norcross

Score: Norcross win, 8-3
Standouts:

Austin Walsh, 2B, 2026, Norcross

Barrett Olejnik, C/3B, 2028, Norcross

Parker Burst, 3B, 2027, Lakeside

Micah Von, SS/C, 2028, Lakeside

Mac Vaysman, C, 2028, Lakeside

Key moments:
The Vikings jumped out to an early lead with a single to open the game from 2028 SS/C Micah Von as he would eventually come around to score to make it 1-0. They would later extend the lead to 2-0 by an RBI single from 2027 3B Parker Burst. The Blue Devils came storming back though to tie it in the 4th as 2026 C Will Thiry singled and 2028 C/3B Barrett Olejnik came through with a clutch 2 RBI base-hit as it was all knotted up at 2-2 heading into the 5th. The Blue Devils would then extend the lead even further in the 5th as they took advantage of five walks. 2026 2B Austin Walsh came through with one of the biggest swings of the game with a 2 RBI pull-side double to break it open and 2028 1B Ryan Lee added further to the tally with an RBI knock of his own to make it 8-2. Mac Vaysman came through with an RBI base-hit in the top of the 7th to cut the deficit by one with a final score of 8-3 in favor of the Blue Devils.

Avery’s Takeaway: The Blue Devils were red hot coming into this one at 5-0 after taking down the reigning 6A State Champs. But it was Lakeside early behind strong performances from 2028 SS Micah Von and 2027 3B Parker Burst which have the ability to carry this Vikings lineup on any given night. The hits were hard to come by from the Blue Devils as they showed the ability to work their walks and move runners over. Big knocks from 2028 C/3B Barrett Olejnik and 2026 2B Austin Walsh was the difference-maker. Norcross extends its winning streak to 6-0 to open the year and look to keep things rolling.

Thomas County Central @ First Presbyterian Day

Score: FPD win, 4-2

Standouts:

Wyatt Waters, RHP/3B, 2026, First Presbyterian Day

Major Simmons, OF, 2026, First Presbyterian Day

Key Moments: Jackets would jump out to an early lead thanks to Joseph Jensen poking a 2B down the LF line that would score two runs. FPD would flip the narrative in the 4th, scoring 4 runs behind a Harrison Strange HR and timely RBI knocks from Keon Johnson and Major Simmons.

Ian’s Takeaway: FPD likes to test themselves early in the season with quality GHSA opponents and this can be a huge win to propel this team with confidence heading into region play soon. Senior RHP/3B Wyatt Waters is going to be a focal point for this squad all spring in a two-way role and last night’s start proved to be massive as the Vikings look to have a 1-2 punch at the top of the rotation alongside Mercer commit RHP Connor Strandmark. Senior OF/QB1 Major Simmons has shined in the big moments every time I’ve seen the Vikings and brings leadership to this team that is vital to the middle of this lineup.
