Starting at SS today, Alvarez immediately stood out to me defensively, ranging deep to his right in the 5-6 hole in the first AB of the game, and making the throw to 1st on the run to record the out. This was one of two standout plays defensively, both moving to his right. At 6’ 3”, Alvarez displays good range and hands, along with a quick release at SS. Offensively, Alvarez racked up four hard-hit balls on the day, finishing 2-5, with 2 singles, and an RBI. The switch-hitting Alvarez hit lefty the whole game, putting all five balls in play to the right side. Alvarez excelled at getting out in front of the ball well and showcased good bat-to-ball skills and consistent/hard contact. While both of his singles were hit hard on the ground, Alvarez was able to get the ball in the air, roping a fly ball into RCF in his first at-bat and smashing a lineout slightly to the left of the second baseman in his fourth trip. Alvarez demonstrates a strong offensive profile with good upside, in addition to a strong/athletic defensive floor that can make an impact either in the INF or behind the plate.
