Miller has been one of my favorite players to watch in live games this spring. This now being my third time seeing him, he has had me walking away each time with my opinion growing higher and higher of his strong play. In my first two viewings, he put on a defensive clinic behind the plate excelling at all aspects of the game at catcher. He’s a plus defender that has a pop time in the 1.96-2.00 range with plenty of carry on his throws. He’s exceptional at blocking and moves quick and athletic in the crouch. He has soft hands that can steal strikes for his pitchers and he calls a great game for the Sundevils pitching staff. He’s not afraid to back-pick at any of the three bases and each contest he has shut down the running game early to where teams aren’t attempting to steal. In the game against Poway, his bat came alive in a big way. His first time to the plate, he led off the game, rocketing a double to the LCF gap and later scored a run in the inning. His next AB, he smashed a no doubt 2-run homer to his pull side that gave Mt. Carmel a 5-3 lead in the 2nd and later in his 4th trip to the box, he roped a single to LCF to cap off a perfect day at the yard. He finished 3-3 with a BB and just a triple shy of the cycle in the Sundevils win. Miller plays the game hard and even when he may have a performance that doesn’t show up in the box score, he’s always in the middle of the action and always has a stamp on the outcome of it in some way, shape, or form. It’s not everyday teams get a catcher that is a plus defender behind the plate and also a force in the batter's box, but Mt. Carmel has one in Bryce Miller.
