Getting the start for Tamalpais, Solem struggled to find the zone in his 1st inning of work, issuing 3 BB and allowing 5 unearned runs. I was intrigued though by his stuff, power FB, and his ability to recompose himself on the mound as the game progressed. Armed with a FB/SL/CH mix, struggled to locate initially in the 1st, tending to miss with his FB above the zone. The FB did show good ride though, getting multiple whiffs throughout the inning when spotted well. Solem’s SL also played well in the inning, showing sharp/late break down and away, getting a dropped third K swinging on what would’ve been the final out of the inning. When Solem came out for his 2nd inning of work, he looked much more in sync with his mechanics. Throwing 12 pitches (all for strikes), Solem recorded 3 K in the inning (2 with the FB and 1 with the SL), working quickly and attacking in the zone. Solem then worked a scoreless 3rd inning to end his day, mixing in his FB/CH at the knees more often the second time through the order. Finishing with 6 K over his 3 innings and giving up only 3 hits, I expect Solem to rebound in his next start and continue his strong senior season.
