Tavarez was the catalyst of Bellarmine’s offense in their walk-off win over Buchanan, with three extra base hits on the day. Tavarez started the game hot with a first inning fly ball down the left field line, stretching it to a double after a slight deflection by the left fielder. He showed a real sense of urgency on the bases, getting a great read on a ball in the dirt and reaching third easily. Tavarez sparked Bellarmine’s rally in the sixth inning, having a hard hit grounder off the third base bag to give Bellarmine second and third with nobody out. He’d later score in the inning on an RBI single. Tavarez ended the game, crushing a 2-2 fastball up, over the fence in left-center for a three run walk-off homer. With quick hands and great bat speed at the plate, Tavarez should continue to excel as Bellarmine’s three hitter.
